Comprehensive analysis of the Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Champak Agad: An In-Vitro Study
Introduction: Prolonged inflammation can cause several health problems like cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, Crohn\u27s disease, ulcerative colitis, and even cancer. Herbal anti-inflammatory formulations can be used to reduce the symptoms of inflammation as they have fewer side effects compared to synthetic drugs. One such herbal formulation is Champak Agad. This study was implemented to evaluate the possibility of Champak Agad\u27s anti-inflammatory properties, which may be important for treating inflammatory diseases.
Materials and Methods: Champak Agad was prepared according to the classical reference. The anti-inflammatory activity of Champak Agad was examined using an egg albumin protein denaturation assay in which the aqueous and alcoholic extract of the drug was used and diclofenac was used a standard drug.
Result: In this study, the drug extracts showed varying degrees of inhibition according to different drug concentrations. This investigation demonstrated that the aqueous extract exhibited higher anti-inflammatory activity than the alcoholic extract. The aqueous extract showed an inhibition rate of 85% with a 200mg/ml drug dose and the inhibition rate observed with the alcoholic extract was 82% with a 200mg/ml drug dose.
Discussion: By inhibiting protein denaturation in a concentration-dependent manner, the current study shows that Champak Agad extracts have strong anti-inflammatory properties
CADAVIZ - Expanding Digital Horizons of Anatomy and Physiology in Ayurveda - A Review
Medical education is transforming continuously with respect to its teaching learning processes. The application of newer techniques, digitization made with regards to instruments and equipment’s, and advancement in the use of technology aids for various purposes in medical education. One of the primary challenges faced by Ayurveda instructors is with the teaching learning of the fundamental subjects like anatomy-Rachana Sharir and physiology-Kriya Sharir. More over replicating the hands-on experience of practical exposure, including activities such as cadaver dissections, bone demonstrations, histology slide examinations, etc., which foster interactive communication with students and enhance their communication and clinical skills is difficult. In order to make teaching and learning sessions more engaging educators need to incorporate educational technologies into everyday teaching methodologies. The recent approach of digital revolution makes it possible to solve the problems creatively. Competency based medical education and OBE objective-based education which are being used nowadays are based on the hierarchical development of all taxonomic levels (domains) for students, while imparting knowledge. CADAVIZ, a virtual dissection table (VDT), is one such instrument which facilitates the educators and helps them to fulfill their teaching objectives. In this article we review the instrument and give a brief account of its utilities and applications with respect to Ayurveda. CADAVIZ is the world’s first simulation table for Ayurveda. Introduction: Ghrita, also known as Ghee, is a unique natural product highly valued in Ayurveda for its numerous health benefits. The Dark Side of Beauty: An Analysis of the Toxic Risks in Cosmetics w.s.r. to Dushi Visha
Cosmetics have been used by humans for thousands of years, not only to enhance beauty but also to protect the skin from environmental damage. This shows that caring for the skin has always been an essential part of human life. In recent times, however, the popularity of cosmetic products has grown rapidly. As a result, manufacturers are producing cosmetics in large quantities to meet this rising demand. But this fast-paced production often lacks sufficient attention to safety standards, regulations and quality control. Today, many people use a variety of cosmetic products every day, such as skincare creams, lotions, cleansers, lipsticks, nail polishes, deodorants and more. These products contain harmful ingredients such as Hydroquinone, Parabens, Phthalates and heavy metals like Lead and Arsenic. Prolonged use of these products leads to their accumulation in the body, potentially causing issues like skin irritation, heightened vulnerability to infections, kidney and liver damage, reproductive toxicity and even carcinogenic effects. The skin is an important part of how a person looks. Throughout history and even today, people have cared a lot about outer beauty. Ayurveda is highly valued in beauty care because it offers natural, affordable and effective treatments. In Ayurveda, the concept of "Dushi Visha" (impotent or weak poison) aligns with the toxicity of cosmetics. According to Acharya Sushruta, this type of poison remains in the body for a long time, having been partially neutralized by anti-poisonous treatment. It is described as weak in potency, not causing immediate harm but staying within the body for years, covered by the Kapha Dosha. Kaphaja Kasa - An Ayurvedic Review
Kasa is the release of blocked Vayu with the production of an unusual sound, or Kutsit Shabda. This can be either productive (with secretion) or dry (without secretion). Bahula, Madhura, Snigdha, Swetha, Nishtiva, Gana Kapha, Aruchi, Gaurava, Shirashoola, Swarabheda, Peenasa, Kantha Kandu, Utklesha, and so on are Lakshana of Kaphaja Kasa. Bronchitis is frequently the greatest way to compare Kaphaja Kasa. The main causes of bronchitis are dust, indoor smoke, smoking, pollution, chemical vapours and irritants, and unfamiliar activities and environments. Ayurveda Chikitsa Siddhant states that Nidana Parivarjana and its formulations of Vata-Kapha Hara, Vatanulomana Agnideepana, Aama Pachana, and Srotoshodhaka, are the primary treatments for Kaphaja Kasa. It also has bronchodilatory, mast cell stabilizing, and antihistaminic properties with are antitussive, mucolytic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. Ayurvedic Food and Nutraceuticals - A review on understanding roles, food as medicine
Nutraceuticals & dietary supplements are versatile in nature. They have become a necessity in the modern world. Nutraceuticals, a term combining the words nutrition and pharmaceutical, are foods or food products that provide medical benefits & health, including the prevention and treatment of disease. Nowadays, dietary supplements are available in the general market. Dietary supplements contain antioxidants, probiotics as well and natural oils, which help in managing health issues. This includes weight management, joint pain, sleep issues, BP, and other complications. When people do not get relief from pharmaceuticals, they move towards nutraceuticals or dietary regimens. Ayurveda mentions the benefits of Ahara for therapeutic purposes. It is easily available and cheap in kitchen remedies. The medical food that is available in the market is not satisfactory based on value and pharmaceutical standardization. Chemically purposed food is also harmful to the body. There is rich literary documentation on Ahara in Ayurveda. Research should be done according to disease and to maintaining good health. It is mentioned that if a man is practicing a wholesome diet there will be no need for medication. Likewise, the best available medicine will not be effective if he is not following dietary restrictions
Impact of Sadyovamana and Virechana in the management of Kitibha Kushtha in co-relation to Psoriasis - A Case Report
Introduction: The skin, which forms the outermost layer of the body, is its largest organ. It acts as an anatomical barrier against biological, chemical, and physical external agents. Due to environmental and lifestyle changes - such as altered work schedules that elevate stress levels and directly affect health - numerous interconnected factors contributing to skin diseases are often categorized under the term \u27Kushta. Kushta is a Kleda Pradhana Vyadhi involving all Sapta Dravyas and is considered one of the Ashta Mahagadas. If left untreated, it leads to Kutsita - characterized by vitiation and discoloration of the skin. Kitibha Kushta is classified under Kshudra Kushta and closely resembles the signs and symptoms of psoriasis.
Aim of study: To evaluate the effectiveness of Sadhyo vamana and Virechana karma in Kitibha Kushta (psoriasis), along with Shamana Aushadhi in terms of alleviating the symptoms and improving the quality of life of patient.
Methodology: A detailed study of Kitibha Kushta was conducted through a comprehensive review of Ayurvedic treatises, research journals, and electronic databases. A patient diagnosed with Kitibha Kushta was selected for the study and administered both internal and external Ayurvedic medications. The patient\u27s response to the treatment was closely observed and documented.
Result: The integrated Panchakarma approach resulted in significant clinical improvement. The patient reported substantial relief in itching, scaling, and discoloration. Post-treatment signs showed restored skin texture, improved sleep, appetite, and bowel regularity.
Discussion: The combined use of Sadyovamana and Virechana offers an effective alternative in managing chronic skin diseases like psoriasis. The therapies helped regulate the aggravated Doshas and enhanced Agni, facilitating better absorption and metabolism
A Review Article on the impact of Viruddha Ahara Vihaar on Pandu w.s.r, to Dietary and Lifestyle Factors
Ayurveda is the science that believes in balance, every individual constitution has its own unique balance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha (VPK) according to its own nature. This balance of VPK is the natural order. When this Doshic balance is disturbed, it creates imbalance, which is disorder. Ayurveda talks about the three sub pillars of life (Upastambha) which are important for the maintenance of this balance, among them Aahar is of utmost importance. Ahara is regarded as necessary to the human body since it supplies the fundamental nutrients needed to perform the fundamental functions of metabolism and digestion. Viruddha Aaahar is a distinctive and wholesome concept described in Ayurveda. The food that is wrong in combination (Rasa, Virya, Vipaka), which has undergone wrong processing, which is consumed in incorrect dose, which is consumed at the incorrect time of day and in the wrong season, is called as Viruddha Ahara. Acharya Charaka has clearly stated that Pandu Roga is caused by Viruddha Aharaa consumption, also in times like these where eating food with unusual combinations has become a trend, diseases like Pandu can easily pave its way towards one’s body irrespective of age and class. Pandu is a disease characterized by pallor of the body with other Lakshanas like palpitation, giddiness, tinnitus, etc. symptoms which are correlated with Anaemia of modern science. It has been scientifically proven that incompatible meal combinations disrupt digestion, obstruct iron absorption, and facilitate toxin buildup, resulting in anaemia-like symptoms. Scientific research also supports the Ayurvedic claim that poor food choices lead to metabolic dysfunction, linking Viruddha Aahar to Pandu Roga. This review article is based on comprehending the significance of Viruddha Aahar in the etiology of Pandu Roga which is essential for formulating effective preventative and therapeutic methods
A Review of Dead Body Preservation: A Historical Perspective on Ancient Techniques in Ayurveda and Modern Advances
It is important to learn anatomy both theoretically and practically in order to fully understand the concept of the body. Anatomy should study practically through the preservation and dissection of human cadaver. Numerous techniques for preserving dead bodies have been developed by modern medical science. Similar to this, Acharya Sushruta had elaborated a specific method for preserving dead bodies in Ayurveda before many centuries, which is commonly referred to as "Jalenimajjana Padhhati for Mrita Samrakshyana" (Hydro-biological approach for preserving a dead body).
