    The Role of Yoga in Promoting Maternal Health During Pregnancy: A Holistic Approach

    Yoga, an ancient holistic discipline originating in India, integrates physical postures (Asanas), breathing techniques (Pranayama), and meditative practices to promote harmony between the body and mind. During pregnancy, women undergo profound physiological, emotional, and psychological changes that often lead to elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and physical discomfort. The prenatal period demands careful attention to both maternal well-being and fetal development, making it critical to adopt interventions that are safe, effective, and supportive of overall health. This review explored the role of Yoga as a complementary practice during pregnancy, highlighting its potential to enhance physical strength and flexibility, regulate stress responses, and improve emotional resilience. Current evidence suggests that regular prenatal Yoga practice may contribute to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, improved sleep quality, and better pain management during labor. Furthermore, Yoga fosters a deeper connection between the mother and developing fetus, supporting psychological preparation for childbirth and motherhood. By integrating Yoga into prenatal care, women may experience significant improvements in their mental, physical, and emotional well-being, ultimately contributing to healthier pregnancy outcomes

    Ayurveda is the science of life that gives importance to both prevention and cure of diseases- ‘Prevention is better than cure’. Ahara is vital to support life and keeping up with ordinary physiological working of human body. Human body is composed of five universal elements together known as ‘Pancha Mahabhuta’. As this body is moment to moment decaying, these five elements also get denuded every moment. Their continuous replacement through food, which is also composed of these five universal elements, is considered to be the most important aspect for maintenance of health. To maintain the homeostasis of the body, this ingested food undergoes three physical and chemical changes-first by digestion, then by metabolism and ultimately by assimilation. Similarly, exterior fire is responsible for cooking, burning and transformation of matter by changing properties. Ingested Panchbhautik food is bio-changed into the body tissues. If food bears qualities facilitating the body entities, it is able to nourish and replenish them. If food bears qualities opposite as such, it keeps these body entities under nourished or at times such food is capable of destroying them. Hence, the ultimate fate of food is to either facilitate or oppose body entities. So, Acharya Charak has explained the Ahara Parinamakara Bhava’s which are the various processes that transform Panchbhautik food from complex form to a digestible and absorbable form.     Shashtika Dhanya (Shathi), a traditional Ayurvedic rice variety maturing in 60 days, holds profound therapeutic and nutritional significance according to classical Ayurvedic texts. Esteemed for its Madhura (sweet), Sheeta (cooling), Laghu (light), and Snigdha (unctuous) properties, it is recognized for its Tridoshaghna, Balya, Grahi, and Sthairyakara actions and is widely used in Panchakarma treatments like Shashtika Shali Pinda Sweda. This review integrates classical Ayurvedic literature with modern scientific insights, highlighting Njavara, a medicinal ecotype of Shashti rice native to Kerala. Njavara exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and disease-modulating properties, with distinct variants based on glume color showing differences in biochemical, agronomic, and therapeutic traits. Nutritionally, it is rich in resistant starch, dietary fibre, phenolics, oryzanol, and tocopherols, making it valuable in functional nutrition.     Acute Management of Elevated SGOT, SGPT, and Triglycerides - A Case Report

    Liver dysfunction, marked by elevated SGOT (AST), SGPT (ALT) and triglyceride levels is a growing global health concern. Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to managing such disorders under the category of Yakrit Vikara. This case study presents the successful Ayurvedic management of a 38-year-old male with elevated liver enzymes (SGOT: 311 U/L, SGPT: 235 U/L) and hypertriglyceridemia (827 mg/dL), along with symptoms of weight loss, reduced appetite, and gastric discomfort. An integrative protocol was adopted, beginning with Sadyovirechana, followed by internal medications to restore Agni which in turn help in enzyme regulation and lipid metabolism. Panchakarma procedures including Snehapana, Virechana, Nasya, and various therapies were administered to eliminate vitiated Doshas and improve metabolic function. Within 12 days of inpatient care, significant improvements were noted: SGOT reduced to 51 U/L, SGPT to 75.9 U/L and triglycerides to 189 mg/dL. Subjective symptoms also improved markedly. This case highlights the potential of Ayurveda in effectively managing hepatic dysfunction and metabolic imbalances through personalized, stage-wise intervention

    Tvak Saara: An Ayurvedic Indicator of Quality of Life

    Sara Pariksha is a diagnostic and a prognostic tool in Ayurveda used to assess the excellence of Dhathus in an individual. It is an integral part of Dasavidhapareeksha described in Classical Ayurvedic texts. For Sara, the purest form of Dhatus, to display its qualities, it must be in its perfect state (Prakrit Avastha) and unaffected by any Dosha. The creation of Samadhatus occurs when Dhatvagni and Bhutagni are at their best, and when these Dhatus are in their best form, it is referred to as Sara of that specific dhatu. Tvak Sara, one of the eight Sara Pariksha parameters in Ayurveda, represents excellence of the skin and by extension, the quality of Rasa Dhatu. Beyond cosmetic significance, Tvak Saara is closely linked with physical, mental, and social aspects of health, which together define an individual’s quality of life (QoL)

    Evaluating Rasnapanchak Kvatha with and without Vaitarana Basti in Amavata - A Clinico Comparative approach to Rheumatoid Arthritis Management

    Purpose: The management of Amavata presents significant challenges for physicians due to its chronic and incurable nature, associated complications, and morbidity, which are comparable to those of Rheumatoid Arthritis. While Ayurveda offers a range of treatment options for this condition, as documented in classical texts, a detailed examination and comparison of the efficacy of specific Ayurvedic management approaches for patients with rheumatoid arthritis are required. The objective is to identify safe, effective, affordable, and easily accessible solutions that can make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this debilitating condition. Methodology: The clinical study was conducted into two different groups of 30 patients, by non-random convenience sampling among those who have fulfilled the inclusion criteria and enrolled from the OPD & IPD of department of Kayachikitsa, IPGAER at SVSP Hospital. Study time period was 45 days for individual. Group A - 30 patients were treated with Vaitarana Basti for 15 days schedule (Karma Basti) followed by Rasnapanchak Kvatha 40 ml twice daily for 30 days; Group B - 30 Patients of Amavata were treated only by Rasnapanchak Kvatha - 50ml twice in empty stomach with lukewarm water for 45 days. Results: Overall effect of trial suggests that Group A is highly effective for acute conditions in patients who were capable of holding the Basti for longer period. In Group B the therapy response to chronic case in older patients was better than in Group A. Therapy response was observed after 1 month which showcasing the slow acting, versatile and broad applicability of Group B Intervention. Discussion: The study concludes that, both groups of treatment were effective in their specific modalities and the study findings underscores the importance of early intervention as well as highlight the limitations of the treatment for advanced or long-standing cases

    Kushtha in Ayurveda a comprehensive study

    The skin is the most visible and presentable part of the body, playing a significant role in one’s personality. It acts as a mirror, reflecting internal health conditions. As the largest organ of the body, the skin covers a surface area of about 1.8 square meters and accounts for approximately 18% of total body weight. Skin diseases, while manifesting physically, often lead to significant psychological distress, causing discomfort, disfigurement, disability, and in some cases, even death. Changes in skin color are frequently indicative of homeostatic imbalances within the body. The health of the skin is influenced by a variety of interrelated factors, including nutrition, hygiene, circulation, age, immunity, genetic predispositions, psychological state, and medication use. In modern society, the prevalence of fast food consumption and irregular sleep patterns has contributed to the emergence of "Viruddha Aahara Janya Vyadhi," or diseases caused by incompatible dietary habits. As a result, a significant portion of the population experiences skin problems. The skin is considered a combination of the five great elements (Pancha Mahabhutas), with Vayu (air) being the most significant. Sparsh Pareeksha (examination by touch) is also included as one of the eight diagnostic tools in Ashtavidha Pareeksha. Common skin conditions like eczema, acne, blisters, melanoma, age spots, and pemphigus are discussed under the broader category of Kushtha in Ayurvedic literature. All forms of Kushtha are classified into two categories: Maha Kushthas (major skin diseases) and Kshudra Kushthas (minor skin diseases)

    Study of Aama and Dysbiosis for Future Microbiological and Biotechnological Advancement in Ayurveda - Case Controlled Literary Study

    Introduction: In Ayurveda there are various concepts that require special attention due to their complex nature and lack of understanding of human mind. One such concept is Aama that is so far considered as toxins or free radicles in body. Our limited understanding in advance sciences like biotechnology has limited us to understand these complex yet highly valuable concepts. Through this study we will try to understand Aama in the reference of gut biota dysbiosis and disease progression. Aim: To understand Aama in perspective of dysbiosis and establishing its direct relation with advance microbiological and biotechnological researches. Methodology: Study of major pathological conditions where Aama is involved, Study of affected biota and toxins (if involved/studied) in those conditions. And further evaluation using statistical test. Discussion: Such studies in the segment of Ayurveda can lead to understand the mechanism of various functional dynamics of body as described in Ayurveda. This can be helpful in developing the concepts further and enhance our understanding toward complexity of human body. Future of this study can be seen as complete understanding of this concept of Aama. Further using biotechnological tools we can develop investigations module for confirming presence or amount of Aama present in cell or body. Further studies in medicine can help us rule out the most appropriate medicines for various pathological groups of organisms

    Ayurvedic management of Dengue Fever - A Case Study

    Dengue fever is the fastest spreading vector-borne virus disease, transmitted through the bite of female mosquitos of the Aedes aegypti species. Dengue fever has surged in recent decades, with estimates putting 40-50% of the world\u27s population at risk for the disease[1] In Ayurveda, dengue fever can be correlated with Vishamjwara. Various formulations have been mentioned in Jwara Prakaran. A case study of dengue fever was done which was successfully managed with Ayurvedic medications. So, it can conclude that dengue fever can be managed without any side effect in Ayurveda. In this study 20 years old male patient with complaints of fever with chills, headache, body ache and itching over body was present. Blood investigations revealed dengue positive along with decreased platelets count. It was managed with Ayurvedic medications for 7 days and also developed good immunity against the disease. The subject was treated on the base of Vishamjwara with various formulations given in Jwara Prakaran. Lab tests were also done on time to monitor the changes. Symptomatology and haematological profile both significantly improved
