Opium and its derivative addiction are rampant in western Rajasthan, because it is easily available. Opioids, which include heroin (or its impure form, smack or brown sugar), a range of medicinal opioids, are used by about 2.1% of the population in India. Opium was first described by Acharya Bhavprakasha, Properties are Tikta and Kashay Rasa, Laghu, Ruksha, Sukshma, Vyavayi, Vikasi, Vedanasthapana, Nindrajanana, Shothahara and Aakshepahara. The opium-derived addictions withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, chills, body ache, sleeplessness and flu-like symptoms begin, these symptoms can grow severe enough to necessitate emergency medical attention, and in extreme situations, they might have life-threatening consequences for the users a result of respiration depression, and pupil dilation in the later stages. Diagnosis: The assessment was based on Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (cows) before and after the treatment. Intervention: Effect have been applied to depict 5 cases of opium addiction in form of series who have been treated with Sameergaja Kerari Rasa in the tapering method (Padanshika Krama) starting with the dose of 375 mg along with Vishatinduka Vati dose of 125 mg twice a day along with Panchakarma procedures, Abhayanga, Swedana and Shirodhara for a period of 1 month. Result: Reduction in cows scale was observed, about 75-80% of symptoms subsided in all cases and the results have been reported very encouraging within a period of twenty to thirty days. Conclusion: Ayurveda treatment can be an effective and safe solution for opium/smack addictions

    Get PDF
Introduction: Infectious or communicable diseases can be defined as illness caused by another living agent or its products that spread from person to person and can be a cause of emergency. Ayurveda do believe in microorganisms i.e., Krimi, but emphasized more on body’s response and occurrence of disease i.e. Vyadhikshamatwa. Communicable diseases well described by Acharya Sushrut termed Aupasargika Roga for epidemic condition, spread through contacts. Acharya Charak coined Janapadodhvansa Roga for pandemic conditions involving rapid outbreak on large scale. Because of improper diet, lack of exercise, stress, fast food, junk food & global warming overall health status of individuals is poor and they are prone to communicable diseases like Covid 19, H1N1 Influenza creating a burden over health care system. Aims & Objectives: To spread the awareness about Ayurvedic approach towards preventing communicable diseases. And to study the role of Ahara and Vihara in prevention of communicable diseases. Result & Conclusion: A healthy and long peaceful life devoid of any disease is the main aim of Ayurveda through implementation of Dincharaya, Rutucharya, Sadvritta is important for physical and mental health. With the help of Shodhan (Panchakarma), Shamana (Aushadha) & Rasayana these diseases can be cured. In this literary work, efforts have been made to find out how Ayurveda can help to prevent communicable diseases

Network Pharmacology and AI-Based Analysis of Dioscorea bulbifera Linn. in Scopolamine-Induced Memory Impairment in OVX Rats: Insights into Estrogen-Linked Alzheimer’s Disease

    No full text
Alzheimer\u27s disease (AD) is one of the leading causes of dementia characterized by cognitive decline. Women are more likely to develop (AD) than men, possibly because estrogen levels drop after menopause. This study aimed to elucidate the effect of Dioscorea bulbifera (DB) extract on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in rats and to decipher the molecular mechanism of its phytoconstituents using an integrated network pharmacology and artificial intelligence-based approach. Memory function was evaluated using the Elevated Plus Maze (EPM) and Morris Water Maze (MWM) tests. Scopolamine administration significantly increased transfer latencies in the EPM and escape latencies in the MWM compared to the control group. However, co-administration of DB extract with scopolamine reversed these effects, showing decreased transfer latencies and escape latencies, indicating improved memory. Furthermore, the DB extract restored the time spent searching the target quadrant in the MWM probe trial session, which was impaired by scopolamine. Acetylcholine (Ach) and serum estradiol levels were quantified with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) on Ovx rats induced with scopolamine to have memory deficits. With predicted DB targets and a collection of AD-related genes, 132 putative targets, 68 direct regulatory targets, and 25 potential regulatory targets of DB were identified for the treatment of AD. Pathway-enrichment analysis for the potential regulatory targets indicated that neurotransmitter clearance in the synaptic cleft was pivotal in the treatment of AD with DB, molecular docking verified interactions between the core targets (ESR1, APP, GSK3β, BACE1, AChE, and MAOB) and the active ingredients

Infertility, as defined in Ayurveda, is the inability to achieve a successful pregnancy despite of regular intercourse over a period of 12 months.[1] The condition is multifactorial, and Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to ensure a normal pregnancy by maintaining the balance of Garbha Sambhavasamagri’s and stable mental state. Sushrutha had explained the Garbha Sambavasamagri (factors responsible for successful pregnancy) in detail. They are Ritu (The appropriate timing or fertile period), Kshetra (The health and readiness of the reproductive organs), Ambu (Nutritional factors and the availability of a conducive fluid environment), and Beejam (The health and quality of ovum and sperm). Any abnormality in these factors can lead to infertility. Additionally Charaka emphasized the importance of peaceful mind “Soumanasyamgarbhadharanam”[2] fundamental remedy for conception. Maintaining the proper functioning of Vata Dosha is equally essential, both for achieving conception and for sustaining a healthy pregnancy. A balanced Agni (digestive fire) is considered the cornerstone of treatment in Ayurveda. The optimization of Agni ensures proper digestion, absorption of nutrients, and overall physiological balance. The Bhagavad Gita beautifully conveys this concept, stating that the divine resides within humans as Agni, which, in collaboration with Prana and Apana (vital energies), governs all digestive activities. Ayurveda recognizes 13 types of Agni, each responsible for various metabolic and physiological processes. When functioning optimally, Agni sustains life, enhances vitality (Ojas), promotes a healthy complexion (Prabha), and ensures well-being. Thus, balancing Agni is key to addressing not only infertility but also the underlying imbalances that contribute to various pathologies in the body

Dushta Vrana (chronic ulcer) is a frequently encountered problem in present era produced commonly as a complication of trauma or pathologic affront and it causes long term agony to the patient. The break in continuity of skin or underlying tissue resulting in a persistent scar is called as Vrana (wound). Dushta Vrana may be understood as a chronic ulcer, which is clinically persisting for more than 6 weeks. The prevalence rate of chronic ulcer in a developing country is almost 2%. Due to prolonged hospitalisation, there is a reduction in the quality of life in patients and a great deal of financial burden with almost rates going up to 3% of total health care budget.[1] Acharya Sushruta mentioned 60 Upakramas for the management of Vrana[2] and local application of Nirgundi Taila Vrana Basti is one among them. The local application of Vrana Basti is one of the best substitutes for chronic wound healing & the Nirgundi Taila is anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and also have better Shodhana & Ropana effect. A case report of 40 year old man, who presented with complaints of an open chronic non healing  ulcer on the lateral aspect of the right shoulder joint associated with pain, discharge, slough, foul smell, oedema and discolouration on the skin has visited to Shalya Tantra OPD, Ramakrishna Ayurvedic Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore
