A Case Report on Effect of Ayurvedic Formulations in the Management of Ringworm
Background: Tinea (ringworm), known in Ayurveda as Dadru, is a recurrent skin disorder that often resists conventional antifungal therapy. Despite effective modern medications, relapse is common once treatment stops. Ayurveda identifies Dadru as a Kapha-Pitta imbalance, presenting with itching, reddish circular patches, and burning sensations, diagnosed through Darshana (inspection) and Prashna Pariksha (inquiry). Shamana Chikitsa (palliative therapy) plays a key role in management. A case of a female patient with chronic neck lesions unresponsive to modern treatment was successfully managed with Ayurvedic interventions, highlighting the system’s holistic and sustainable approach to chronic skin conditions.
Clinical observations: According to Charaka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana Chapter 7, Dadru is one of the eleven minor skin diseases (Kshudra Kushtha) caused by an imbalance of Kapha and Pitta Doshas. Symptoms include redness (Raaga), circular patches (Mandala), itching (Kandu), and burning (Daha).
Diagnosis: In this case, the symptoms clearly indicated a Kapha-Pittaja imbalance. An essential aspect of Ayurvedic treatment involves Amshansha Kalpana—the analysis of the proportion and nature of the dosha involved. This approach helps in achieving quicker and more effective results. Though ringworm can be managed with antifungal creams and oral medication, a holistic Ayurvedic treatment plan can offer long-term relief.
Treatment: Based on the patient\u27s symptoms, a treatment strategy was adopted in line with Ayurvedic guidelines for managing Kushtha. Internal medications included Gandhak Rasayana and combinations of Kushthahara herbs. For external application, a decoction (Kwath) with Kapha-Pittahara properties and antimicrobial activity was used for washing the affected area.
Outcome: Evaluations were conducted before, during, and after treatment, with photographic documentation. After 25 days of Shamana Chikitsa, the patient showed significant improvement in redness, rashes, and itching.
Conclusion: Today, Ayurveda is gaining global recognition for its safe and effective approach to treating chronic ailments. With minimal side effects, Ayurvedic medicine can offer both symptomatic relief and deeper healing. This was a humble, cost-effective attempt to manage ringworm using Ayurvedic principles, yielding promising results with soothing local effects

Ayurvedic Management of Yakrit Vikara w.s.r. to Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Case Report
Chronic alcohol consumption leads to steatosis, characterized by intracellular fat accumulation within hepatocytes, a hallmark of Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD). Steatosis is seen in 90% of heavy drinkers and is usually considered harmless because of its reversibility with abstinence. However, it includes metabolic stress that heightens the risk of more severe liver disease. Liver, identified as the Yakrit in Ayurveda, is regarded as a vital organ responsible for crucial functions. Excessive consumption of Madya with Amla, Ushna, Teekshna, Vikasi Gunas results in Raktvaha Srotao Dushthi and its Moola i.e., Yakrit. The present clinical study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of Kalpit Shaman Yog in the form Kwatha & Tablet along with Panchkarma intervention i.e., Anuvasana Basti and Niruha Basti on alternate days in Kala regimen. At last, it can be concluded that the treatment regimen has a significant role in the management of Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
A Case Report on Reversing Chronic Kidney Disease through Ayurvedic Interventions
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a significant global health burden, particularly in regions with limited access to advanced treatments such as dialysis. This case study reports the Ayurvedic management of a 38-year-old female patient with a 3-year history of CKD, treated at Jeena Sikho Lifecare Limited Clinic, Sangrur, India. The patient presented with classical CKD symptoms, including facial and pedal edema, frothy urine, nausea, bloating, and reduced appetite. The patient demonstrated notable improvement in multiple clinical parameters. Pedal oedema, initially graded as 4˚, decreased to 1˚, and facial puffiness reduced from 3˚ to 1˚. Nausea severity decreased from 4 to 1, and bloating improved from moderate (6/10) to mild (2/10). Appetite returned to normal, and urine appearance normalized from frothy to clear, indicating enhanced patient comfort and well-being. Throughout treatment, vital parameters were regularly monitored. Blood pressure remained generally stable between 110/80 mmHg and 120/90 mmHg. The patient’s weight gradually decreased from 65 kg to 62 kg. Renal function assessment revealed a progressive improvement in serum creatinine levels, decreasing from 9.07 mg/dL at baseline to 7.04 mg/dL, then 6.0 mg/dL, and finally 4.02 mg/dL. The integrative Ayurvedic management led to substantial clinical and laboratory improvements, with no emergence of new symptoms, suggesting restoration of systemic balance and improved quality of life. This case highlights the potential of Ayurvedic interventions as an effective adjunct or alternative in CKD management, particularly in resource-limited settings where conventional renal replacement therapies may not be readily available
The Body\u27s Guardian: A Review of Tulsi\u27s (Ocimum sanctum) Protective and Modulatory Pharmacology
Ocimum sanctum L. (Tulsi), an important herb in Ayurvedic medicine, is a plant with an unparalleled pharmacological profile, positioning it as a highly effective adaptogenic and homeostatic agent. The present review integrates comprehensive scientific evidence on the protective and modulatory effects of Tulsi on major physiological systems. The central part deals with its profound impact on the central nervous system, exerting neuroprotective, nootropic, anxiolytic, and anti-stress action, offering potential therapeutic benefits for neurodegenerative disorders and mood-related pathologies. The paper also extensively discusses Tulsi from the perspective of its role in systemic health management: in metabolic disorders, it demonstrates significant anti-diabetic and hepatoprotective activities, thus contributing to the normalization of glucose metabolism and protection against liver chemical injury; regarding cardiovascular health, research studies confirm its anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-hypertensive, and cardioprotective effects. The review further provides strong evidence of the immunomodulatory properties of Tulsi, detailing its effect on the enhancement of cellular and humoral immune responses, leading to a strengthened body immunity. Central to many of these benefits is its strong antioxidant activity, which neutralizes oxidative stress, considered a key player in many chronic diseases. This paper thus compiles evidence on the position of O. sanctum as a multi-dimensional medicinal herb with the ability to protect and balance the internal environment of the body against many physiological and chemical stressors
Holistic management of Mandal Kustha (Psoriasis) through Panchakarma: A Case Study
The skin, one of the five Gyanindriyas, serves not only as a sensory organ but also provides protection against external trauma. Mandal Kustha (Psoriasis) is a skin disorder characterized by an imbalance in Sleshma i.e. Kapha and is classified under Mahakushta, a severe category of skin diseases in Ayurveda. The condition presents with symptoms such as red spots, elevated patches, intense itching, and burning sensations, often accompanied by the shedding of silvery scales. Mandal Kustha primarily results from the vitiation of Kapha Dosha and the involvement of Rasa, Rakta, and Mamsa Dhatu. Modern medical treatments offer suppressive solutions, but they do not address the root causes, leading to frequent relapses. In contrast, Panchakarma, an Ayurvedic detoxification therapy, offers a more holistic approach to managing this chronic condition. This case study examines the treatment of a 31-year-old male patient with silvery scaly lesions, severe itching, and daily scale shedding. The patient underwent Virechana Karma, a type of Panchakarma therapy. After completing the treatment, significant improvement in the clinical manifestation of Mandal Kustha was observed, demonstrating the potential of Ayurvedic therapies in providing long-term relief for skin disorders like psoriasis

Understanding Neurological Disorders through the lens of Ayurveda w.s.r. to Asthi Majja Dhatu - A Critical Review
Background: In Ayurveda, the human body is sustained by Sapta Dhatus, each with distinct structural and functional significance. Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue) provides structural integrity, while Majja Dhatu (marrow and nerve-related tissue) plays a crucial role in neurological functions. Modern medicine associate’s disorders like multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, peripheral neuropathies, and osteoporosis-linked neurological deficits with degeneration or dysfunction in skeletal and nervous systems. This review explores neurological disorders from an Ayurvedic perspective, with a special emphasis on Asthi–Majja Dhatu interrelations.
Methodology: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using Ayurvedic classical compendia, commentaries, and Nighantus, along with modern neurology references and peer-reviewed research from PubMed, Scopus, AYUSH Research Portal, and other academic databases. Inclusion criteria focused on works discussing the correlation of Asthi and Majja depletion (Kshaya), vitiation (Dushti), and their pathological manifestation in neurological disorders. Exclusion criteria omitted unrelated systemic diseases without neurological involvement. Comparative analysis was performed between Ayurvedic descriptions of Vata Vyadhi, Majjavaha Srotodushti, and modern neurological conditions.
Results: The review identifies that Asthi–Majja Kshaya corresponds to several degenerative neurological disorders in modern medicine. Vata aggravation due to Asthi and Majja depletion manifests as tremors, weakness, sensory loss, cognitive decline, and impaired coordination. Classical treatments, including Ksheera Basti, Nasya, Rasayana, and Snehana–Swedana, show potential neuroprotective and regenerative effects, supported by modern studies on neurotrophic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties of Ayurvedic herbs.
Conclusion: Ayurveda offers a unique perspective by viewing neurological disorders as a manifestation of Vata aggravation secondary to Asthi–Majja Dhatu depletion. This holistic understanding integrates structural (bone, marrow) and functional (neurological) pathology, bridging ancient and modern concepts. The review suggests that adopting Ayurvedic diagnostic and therapeutic frameworks alongside modern neurodiagnostics could enhance early detection, prevention, and management of neurological disorders. Further clinical research is warranted to validate these integrative approaches and establish standardized treatment protocols
