Note on damage to grasses in the Peace River region by the spittlebug, Philaronia bileneata Say, (Cercopidae: Hemiptera)
Nymphs of the spittlebug, <i>Philaronia bilineata</i> Say, were observed to feed on seed stalks of Merion bluegrass near Dawson Creek, B.C. When nymphs fed on a tuft all the seed stalks turned white and died, regardless of how many nymphs were present. This suggested that the nymphs were phytotoxic or possibly a vector of a pathogenic organism. The damage differed from other types observed and studied. Red fescue was much less affected. Treatment with DDT is recommended
Unacceptability of cultivars of highbush blueberry by adult black vine weevils (Col.: Curculionidae)
When isolated adults of the black vine weevil, <i>Otiorhynchus (Brachyrhinus) sulcatus</i> (F.), were fed highbush blueberry foliage at constant 20C and 16 hours photoperiod, the related cultivars Cabot and Weymouth were unacceptable, whereas Jersey, Rancocas, June, Pemberton, Bluecrop, Rubel, Dixi and Stanley were acceptable, judged mainly on weight gains, feeding rates, fecundity, and survival. The presence of a feeding deterrent is indicated in the two unacceptable cultivars but other possibilities are a lack of some necessary nutrient(s) or an imbalance or unavailability of nutrients which may invoke the response of inadequate feeding. Adults appear to die from starvation

Ecology of anthocorid (Hemipt.: Anthocoridae) predators of the pear psylla (Homopt.: Psyllidae) in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia
The supposition is not valid that the disappearance of the native <i>Anthocoris melanocerus</i> from pear orchards late in the summer is because of competitive displacement by the introduced <i>A. nemoralis</i>. It is because <i>A. melanocerus</i> migrates to where prey are most abundant whereas <i>A. nemoralis</i> remains on pear. <i>A. melanocerus</i> is concentrated on willows in the spring, moves to pear when <i>Psylla pyricola</i> becomes abundant, and moves to cottonwood when aphids on it become abundant and the numbers of <i>P. pyricola</i> on pear have become low
