For example, Half of Sr. High students never drive a vehicle to school. Almost half of the students chose “Raiders” as their favorite flick. Years can’t erase the pleasure That the joy of friendship gives; To have an understanding friend Is worth far more than gold. Sandra’s main concerns were always her friends and family and being happy. We will always miss you, Sandra, but we know you’re happy now. With love, All your friends 16 VALEDICTORIAN — lynda callaway The valedictorian for the 1982 graduating class was Lynda Callaway. In her valedictory message, she emphasized the value of friendship. She used the poem “Old Friends and New Friends,” by Joseph Parry, to illustrate her talk. It goes as follows: Make new friends, but keep the old; Those are silver, these are gold. New-made friendships, like new wine, Age will mellow and refine, Friendships that have stood the test — Time and change — are surely best; Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray; Friendship never knows decay. For ’mid old friends, tried and true, Once more we our youth renew. But old friends, alas! may die; New friends must their place supply; Cherish friendship in your breast — New is good, but old is best; Make new friends, but keep the old; Those are silver, these are gold. 17 Danny Brewin Mark Budd Lynda Callaway Janice Chipman Donna Chow 18 ^Jlie (Sest of ^Jime5 19 Oue memories o wiULd a life time . . The team lost 4 out of the 6 starters due to graduation. The team now consists of 5 rookies and 1 grade 12. The year started out slow with the team only placing 4th in the pre-season tourney held in L.C.I. We then moved on, participating in 2 Medicine Hat tournaments. The 1st was played at Medicine Hat High where we placed 4th. Next, we travelled to McCoy, where we lost out in the semi-finals and placed third. Bow Island was the 1st tournament we won, beating Crescent Heights in the final games. The University of Lethbridge Classic tournament was another good one for us, winning the consolation side. Through out the 3A season, there was one tough team we had to play before we could get into provincials. But, unfortunately, they kept beating us in league play, and it seemed almost hopeless that we could participate in provincials. When the zones were held in Crowsnest, we made it to the finals and were up against Catholic Central (the team sure to win). Again, it seemed almost impossible that we should even have a chance. But with the help of Dennis’ preparation it seemed very possible. There were three games in the championship match, and we won the 1st with the score of 15-11. The next game we, again, were ahead 13-9, but couldn't hold on to it and lost, 13-15. The 3rd and final game was the decision. Though we played past our mental ability, and were neck in neck with them all the way, it slowly slipped out of our hands for a 13-15 final score. Through the year, there was one main factor that we, as a team, relied on to get us through the season. That was our coach, Dennis Fujimagari. He was a very young coach who took on the task of coaching a bunch of noisy girls. We owe this year to him and it wouldn’t have been half as fun as it was without him. Though we never got to thank him in person, we would like to thank him now, in this write-up. He is a special guy to all of us and we hope he’ll be back next season. “Thanks Fuji” 1981 Volleyball Team 1. Jody Parry 2. Lana Rogers 3. Audrey Bullock 4. Sharon Hamilton 5. Pauline Hooge 6. Front Row: David Anderson, Brad Robinson, Dick Eto. Missing: Lon Ferguson. Our 1981 volleyball season was, in 2 words, “pretty good.” We lost only one player to graduation from the previous year, which was a complete rebuilding year. As with last year, we were not a tall team, but concentration and defense and another 50,000 stairs produced a team that would jump and play with taller teams. The S.W.A.V.A. league was weak this year, ourselves and Winston Churchill being the only strong teams. The stage for a long-standing rivalry between these 2 teams was set in the preseason tournament when we met in the final. Winston was too much for us, and we lost, but the grudge had begun. One week later, we met again in league play. We crushed them in the first game 15-5, and it looked like revenge was ours, but 4 games later, we lost the 5th game in a best of 5 match. Beating Winston would have to happen another day. At this time, we launched upon our tournament season with a trip to the 3rd Annual Medicine Hat College Tournament. We won this tournament for the second time in 3 years, beating Richmond, Sask, in the final. Victory was short-lived, however, as the best we could do in the next 2 tournaments as Medicine Hat Highschool and Lord Beaverbrook in Calgary was a 3rd place finish in both. We played well, but always made mistakes that cost us in the semi-finals. The following weekend we journeyed to a small tournament in Bow Island, one we had won the previous year. As it turned out, this was to be the low point of our season. We played poorly and finished out of the play-offs. We headed home, dejected, but determined not to have that happen again. Practices all week were hard and serious in preparation for the Annual U. of L. Classic. Being disgraced the previous weekend seemed to be just what we needed, as we cruised through the tournament undefeated, beating Winston Churchill in the final. As it turned out, this was to be the first of 4 tournament wins in a row. The following week we played Winston again in league play. Neither team was sharp, but we were worse; we lost in 4 games. Losing to anyone isn't easy, but losing to Winston was almost unbearable. We would have to wait another day for revenge. The next weekend we travelled to McCoy in Medicine Hat to a tournament we have attended religiously since I have coached at Myers, but had never won. I have had super teams in the past that should have won it, but McCoy always seemed to be our nemesis, so I never counted on winning, which is what we did, going through the tournament with a perfect record in match play. 38 Next on our agenda came the league Post-Season tournament, and our last shot at Winston. We were seeded in opposite pools. Neither team’s stage was set. We had been playing all day in the St. Mary’s gym, and not well at that. We came back to Myers, had our pre-final team meeting, and walked into the Myers gym-home turf. I don’t know why, but something in the atmosphere felt good. The gym was full, hot, sweaty — comfortable. The guys were relaxed, but tense. The rest was history as Myers went on a roll that left Winston wondering what had hit them. We had just put together one of the best two games this group had ever played as a unit and throttled Winston 15-3, 15-3, and leaving no doubt as to who was the best team in Southern Alberta. Zones came up the next weekend. There are only 3-3A schools in Zone 1 and the other 2 have never been strong until this year. Crowsnest Pass has decided to play volleyball. We met the Pass in the final after losing to them in the round robin. We won the first 15-12, lost a barn burner in the second. 18-16, then won the third, 15-11. The match was exciting, and what a zone play-off should be. Nothing left of the season now except the big one — Provincials, this year in Drumheller. We didn’t win, but certainly didn't play poorly. We were in the strong pool, won our first 3 consecutive matches in straight games, than lost to the eventual winner, Edson, putting us in second place, and advancing to the semi-finals against the host, Drumheller. We put them in a shooting gallery the first game, and manhandled them 15-5. In the second we were ahead 8-1 when a cold front moved in. We lost our poise, that game, the next, and the match. I wasn't disappointed, however. How can you be with a team that finished out of the playoffs only once in 10 tournaments, and won 5 of them. Dedication is something you see less and less in today’s youth. Playing is arduous, physically and mentally demanding, and time consuming for both players and coach. But you also know that the rewards are well worth the cost, because you have achieved something you have really earned, and not many things are truly earned in today’s society. To me, coaching is fun because you get to work with people who have the same viewpoint you do with regard to sport, and even though there is a 15-17 year difference in age, they become good friends after 3 years and 2000 hours of working together. So thanks to my friends on the 1981 edition of the Myers Saints. You've made me want to coach another year: MARSHALL KANO, BRAD ANDERSON, DAN BREWIN, MIKE WEBER, LON FERGUSON, NEIL POWELL, BRAD ROBINSON, CAM SHIELDS, DICK ETO, DAVE ANDERSON, AND BRAD (CHOO-CHOO) LITCHFIELD. This year a new sport was introduced into W. R. Myers High — Girls' Flag Football. The team, consisting of some girls from Phys. Ed 10, 20, and 30, was one of the most successful teams in the school. They were the only team to finish their season undefeated. The girls’ team played 4 games against WCHS and LCI. These games were tough, physical, contact football. They were backed by such standouts as Virginia Meyer at quarterback. Shauna Harris at halfback, and Shelly VanCleave at middle linebacker. 4714-53 Street PHONE 223-4344 mi mw m lib. They won the Creston tournament by beating Earnest Manning of Calgary 105-62. They finished 2nd in a Medicine Hat tournament and at the St. Mary’s Warriors tournament and were consolation winners in Coaldale. The 5th tournament was the 4A Southern Regional tournament played at the Sport-splex. Although the team was seeded 8th they surprised everyone by finishing 5th and losing a heartbreaking overtime game to Cardston. That game was played in front of 2750 people, many of whom where W.R. Myers students. The team greatly appreciated this. The overall win-loss record for the team was 17 wins, 17 losses. This is greatly improved from the teams first year of 4A competition (3 wins, 29 losses). The team will miss greatly graduating players Brad Anderson, Brent Powell, Marshall Kano, Bruce Gilbertson, Jerry Gardner, and Mike Weber. These players have done an excellent job in helping establish our school in 4A Boys’ basketball. We thank our many fans who supported us faithfully, and we look forward to continuing to provide exciting 4A basketball in our school in future years. We're those public school kids from Taber. We're those students who have teachers who actually want to stay after class and help you understand your homework. We're that school who has developed a sense of identity through the diversity of our peers. We're the ones who know what it's like to suffer a loss, not just as an individual, but os a collective. And how to persevere, and help one another through that loss. We've been through a lot together, and we prove time after time that we are able to handle anything. Looking back at my last four years at Myers, I truly believe that this school develops strength of character. Keep it classy, Myers. Paicjv Cwtfe MOVING IN, MOVING ON, MOVING UP, MOVING OUT. TAKEN 2 XCITMNT15 IN M 5 — WHWWMfiGt Hello Rebels Family! The 2019-2020 school year will be one forthe memory banks! We started the year with the theme of being "superheroes"! Our staff was ready to build memories and learning with our students in September. October, November, December and January came and went without a hitch. Little did we know that we would be thrusted into a "new normal" of teaching and learning with COVID-19 taking the world by storm in March of 2020. Our Rebel's family is a tough and resilient group! We shifted gears to our "new normal of online learning and teaching. It is with great pride as principal of W.R. Myers High School that I saw students, staff and parents shift gears seamlessly to a new learning environment. We certainly miss our students as they are the reason why we teach! 1 hope that all of you are doing well and encourage you to stay safe during this unprecedented time! We look forward to seeing you soon! Mr. Pon, #RebelsForLife! Julie and Lowell are an enthusiastic duo who have first-hand experience turning obstacles into opportunities. Julie, a Speech Pathologist, and Lowell, a Registered Psychologist have been married for 10 years and currently live in Lethbridge, Alberta with theirtwo sons. Lowell suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) that has required him to adjust to decreasing sight his entire life. He is now legally blind with no peripheral vision, reduced centra vision, and no vision in low light. Lowell was the first visually impaired contestant in Amazing Race’s history, and- relying on their teamwork- Julie and Lowell completed seven out of eleven legs on season four of The Amazing Race Canada. Lowell now has his sights set on competing in road and track cycling at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. His ‘vision for 2020’ is just one way his inspiring optimism and determination have turned tough times into positive experiences. Julie and Lowell work tremendously well as a team. Julie has been by Lowell’s side every step of the way as he faces challenges to his independence. Lowell's emotional & mental strength, unending patience, and sense of humour help with daily stressors as they live, work, and raise a family together. They now speak together to share their message of overcoming obstacles, and what it takes to get through life’s challenges. -(www.livewithheart.ca) choosc NOT TO COMPLAIN FOR 24 HOURS WUAT OBSTACLES WAVE TAUGE1T US IS... The two grade 12 leaders on the team, helped lead the way for a younger team and set the example day in and day out. A highlight was their solid effort at a large Calgary tournament in October. They went into the 2A Zone Championships as the #6 ranked team in the South and narrowly missed out on making it to the Zone Final and an opportunity for Provincials! Coach Lai wants to wish the graduating players all the best in the future and is looking forward to watching the returning players develop for next season! HEART & HUSTLE - Hayley Jones - Hayley played with passion and energy. She loved playing volleyball and she was one of the most adaptable players on this year'steam. She was always there to pump up her teammates when they were down on themselves. A well deserved award! REBEL AWARD - Vicky Shimbashi - Vicky is a hard working athlete that always put the pedal to the floor when she played. She exhibited all the characteristics of a Rebel. She was enthusiastic, she tried hard every time she played. Vicky earned this award by playing every point until the whistle blew. MVP - Anika Steed - Anika was our team captain. She led with her actions and was a solid role model for her peers. In myopinion, she is a well deserved recipientforthis award as it was a pleasure to coach such a solid player and teammate. We had a season filled with ups and downs but played hard to the end. This group of players was very talented and we put ourselves in a position to battle fora provincial berth. We came op a bit short in the zone semifinal against Vauxhall but the team never gave up. I was very proud of this group of young people and how they improved. It was comprised of Alanna Makarchuk(skip), Konnor Unser (third), Ashleigh Little (second), Emily Carver (second), Brady Swistin (lead), Alex Makarchuk (lead) and Andrea Makarchuk (coach). Divisionals were held at the Taber Curling Club and the team beat St. Marys 12-2 and St. Michaels 9-2 in round robin. But unfortunately lost to St. Michaels in the finals 7-5. This year the South Zone added Mixed Doubles to Zones. So we entered three teams to this event and had great success. Ashleigh and Brady finished third, Alex and Emily fifth and Alanna and Konnor sixth. 51 The Physics 20s had to demonstrate their knowledge offerees and energy by building a roller coaster than included a vertical loop-the-loop. The students got creative with their different use of materials, and Alanna even involved a jump in hers where the marble blew a candle out! It is always fun how the students interpret the assignment in different ways to achieve the same end goal. Well done! This year Science 14-24 learned all about chemical reactions. They did this by making putty using Borax and glue. They also blew bubbles in old CD's. They also learned about meltingand boilingpoints of different substances, and the difference between acids and bases. HO QUITTERS NEVER ^win^ WINNERS The'Beit ?WAY: ^DONE^ IS TO BEGIN MW IGNORE THE NOISE OWN CHOICE follow your __ C0ACUE6 AWARD - Wilford Gulay - Wilford improved a great deal this year! He would try to ask questions on how to improve his game. He was always respectful to me as a coach and also to his teammates. He wanted the whole team to improve and this desire to help his team makes him the perfect candidate for the Coaches award. HART AND HUSTLE - Brennan Abela- Brennan brought his best to every game! He wanted to improve and help his teammates improve. Brennan is a very athletic player and a player who tried to help his teammates improve. He showed intensity and heart on the court for each game he played. He represented the heart and hustle of our team this year. MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER-zach Giesbrecht Bael - - Zach came to play every game and put his full effort onto the court. I was impressed by his desire and energy to play the sport that he loves. He helped his teammates that were learning the game and thereby helped to grow his leadership in turn. Zach is a well deserved recipient of this award. Boys BASKETBALL HOMEOFsHE REBELS What a great year with this group of basketball players! They grew both on and off the court through perseverance, desire and heart. The team improved throughout the year and it was a pleasure to coach this group of players. Good luck to you all as you move onto the next phase of your basketball careers. The following athletes will be recognized this year for athletic awards. -Coach Pon Team Roster: (6) Brennan Abela, (lO)Allen Clements (DA), (9)Zach Giesbrecht- Bael, (3)Tristyn Chief, (7)Wilford Gulay, (2)Abe Neustaeter (DA), (4)Demitri Sawatzky, (5)0wen Schnoor, (8)Walker Skiba Coach: Ken Pon, Assistant Coach: Arron Lai - .44’. MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER Teya Harris MOST DEDICATED PLAYER Addyson Sennett Hailey Kane GIRLS BASKETBALL OurTier 1 Girls fought hard all season, headlined by wins over St. Mary sand Brooks. With many first time players on the team the team grew in skill level drastically and were hard to play against with their scrappy, heart filled play style. Leadingthe way in scoring was Teya Harris and Addyson Bennet, Hailey Kane as our 3pt marksman and Rebounding and Blocks machine Alyssa Erick. Through many ups and downs all season these girls never lost their positive attitude and exemplified the traits of being a Rebel. MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER Kode Lund "TUE MOTOR" €thon Chapple "TUEUEART" Dylan Saunders "TUE MICROWAVE" Colby Honsen The JV Boys enjoyed a very successful season, finishing with a record of 20 wins with only 6 defeats. They finished their league schedule with a record of 11-3, good for 2nd place in the regular standings. The boys played long stretches this year short-handed, as a number of our players went down with various ailments and injuries. The team deserves credit for their resilience and perseverance despite the trying circumstances. Particularthanks goes out to the players’ parents and families, and especially to Coach Bowes; our co-coach and "BLOB and SLOB” specialist. Many of these players will need to step up to a varsity position next year. We're looking forward to seeing them on the court next season. - Coach Leavitt Team Roster: (6)Ethan Chapple, (23)Colby Hansen, (9)Chase Jensen, (7)Tyler Jensen, (5)Zach Johnson, (2l)Kade Lund, (l)Carter Moser, (33) Aiden O'Connor, (3)Dylan Saunders, (13)JoelTorrie, (8)Tyson Torrie Coach: Doug Leavitt, Assistant Coach: Greg Bowes The JV Girls had an amazing year, both competing on the court and bonding away from the gym! The girls all seemed to get better and better as the year progressed, and I couldn' t have been more proud of the continuous effort and dedication that the team showed during practices and games! Crowds were polite, and the music fabulous. Everyone enjoyed a return to outdoor live entertainment that has been sorely missed. Lessons were learned for vendors and both festival and civic promoters, and we hope to see this unique addition to Milo's summer entertainment return. I also attended my committee meetings. It has been a very busy month, but most of the committees take a break from meetings until September. The County BBQ was very well attended, with about 400 people attending. We are done crushing gravel and are now hauling and graveling roads. With all the rain we have been having we are behind on the graveling, mowing and grading. They are trying to catch up in between the rains. We had a presentation on raising Council Renumeration. It recommended a raise to council. I would like to get rate payers opinion on how they feel about raise our pay. This raise would not happen until next budget. The County has been spotlighting business in the area. If you would like some free advertising please register with the County and get your business featured on Facebook. We are now selling lots in our industrial park. There has already been a mini-storage approved for a development permit. There are tax incentives and price reductions under certain conditions. We are holding public hearings on 2 wind turbines on July 13. These turbines are on our Urban Fringe outside of Lomond. Unfortunately, Alberta Utilities Commission has already approved these. We have no say and have been told we need to approve these turbines. Please come out and state your opinion on these. Maybe we can show the AUC that they need to look at municipalities Land Use Bylaws, before approving green energy projects. There has been some talk on if we should be holding public hearings in the evenings. Please let me know if you would like to see a change to when they are held. Please be aware that if we hold these meetings at night that there is extra cost in staff and councilors time. We did not approve a rezoning in the Mossleigh area. We had held a public hearing and it was evident that the community did not want this rezoning or development to go ahead. It was to set up a crypto currency mining operation. We may find that there are more mining operations wanting to come into the county, I would appreciate any comments on how ratepayers feel about these operations, for future applications. We are looking at ways to cut costs or increase revenue at Waste Commission. If you have any ideas that we could look at please contact me. We are trying to think outside the box and come up with a plan. The price of getting rid of our garbage is going up like everything else and we would like to not have to raise rates substantially next year. Please follow the County's Facebook page and take a look at our website. You can find our by-laws and policies on the website. There is also a new and really neat financial part that tells were our money is being spent. My county number is 403-423-0149, if you want to discuss any County business please call! My email is Kelly.ne Ison @vu lea n.ca if that is a better way to communicate. Thank you for letting me serve you for this term. - Kelly NelsonMilo Community School Awards Day - June 28 rnMILO school Empowering Lifelong Learners Dedication and Determination Awards (photo below) Grade 1: Ryleigh Monner, Alex Neufeld Grade 2: Blake Monner Grade 4: Paxton Monner, Andrew Bartsch Grade 6: Caitlyn Koch, Agatha Rempel Grade 7: Adrianna Kirk, Ty Bertschy Grade 9: Allyson Bartsch, Dreus Spring Chief {missing) th, 2022 Academic - Science: Blakely Duck Chief, Keane Lucas, Brody Lamotte Academic - Language Arts: Lily Monner, Keane Lucas, Camryn Bertschy, Cody Walker, Brody Lamotte, Preston Headrick, Allyson Bartsch, Dreus Spring Chief Academic - Social Studies: Lily Monner, Taliya Good-Eagle Monner, Keane Lucas, Brody Lamotte, Camryn Bertschy, Ty Bertschy, Cody Walker, Allyson Bartsch Creative Endeavour Awards •“ sponsored by Milo Ag. MYERS HIGH SCHOOL 1984 "DOING OUR BEST" SPORTS CLUBS EVENTS SPECIAL OCCASIONS GRAD CLASS 1984 STUDENTS p R N P A L M E S S A G E MR. KILBACK Our Yearbook again exemplifies serious dedication and full involvement in the life of our school by the students in the Literature class of C. Hart. Many fond memories are chronicled and illustrated for the benefit of all of our students and staff. Day at the Park, Trixter Theatre, and Pop and Pizza represent some of the lighter moments, while the Career Day organized by our Guidance Department provided specific information as well as a general awareness of diverse employment and further education possibilities. Football is to become a reality next year, following renewed interest and support, and should enable many more students to become actively involved in our sports program. We are fortunate to have staff members who are willing and able to provide the expertise essential to our various extra-curricular activities. Our Alternate Program has broadened opportunities for some students who have difficulty in coping with regular high school courses. Preparation for the new Diploma Exams, for Grade 12's, presents a challenge to students and staff, particularly during the first year of implementation. Several alternatives have been considered by Taber School Division to resolve the problem of a lack of space in elementary schools in Taber. The most likely effect on our school is the addition of Grade 9’s in September, 1984. 2 EDITOR'S MESSAGE Co-editors- Carol Desabrais - Connie Gow Carol: This has been a good year for the yearbook. Connie: Man, it was quite a duty for our fellow journalists and us to fit a year into 88 pages. Carol: . . . and without Mr. Hart's much needed supervising we would have fallen flat on our faces. Connie: No kidding . . . also, I would’ve cracked under the workload without you, the other editor. Carol: In being an editor, I’ve learned what being responsible for keeping things organized and moving ahead. Not that it always worked that way, but with help I soon learned that organization and teamwork are what the yearbook consists of. Connie: Well, you have said it all. It was hard to keep things under control but we finally have it made, (sigh) BOTH: We hope it was a memorable year for all the students of this school and that this yearbook will one day reflect some great moments of the year behind us. Thanks! Listen to me when I'm pointing at you! Connies Theory: Give Mr. Hart an innocent smile when you know the deadlines coming and he’s starting to throw things around! Do Delmar! We don’t want to run hills. FUNDAX The 83-84 school year started off with a bang for students as they travelled by bus, car, truck, bike, and foot to the Provincial Park. Activities included: a bucket brigade, land ski race, and a mud football game. Fortunately the weather was terrific and everyone shared in a great time. BrasiMtwi^rcO^^ 9 With 3A volleyball zone play-offs being played in our own gym, the student body gathered for a pep rally to cheer our teams on. Mr. Hart's drama class presented two plays: “Starship For Spirit" and some “Commercials". Mr. Walters then presented the girls' team as students spirited the gym with cheers of encouragement. After the introduction of the boys' team, Coach Del Cleland spoke on the past season. He mentioned the setbacks and the progress of the team, and now hoped the team could put it together and go on. Cleland thanked the many fans for being so great. In all his years of coaching at Myers, he has never seen such fan support. 10 11 CHRISTMAS DANCE The Christmas dance was a big success this year. Despite the chilly weather, there was an excellent turnout. Pyramid disco played the music. It was nice to see everybody dressed in formal attire. Everybody had a real good time as mistletoe was flying about the gymnasium all night. 13 HARLEM CLOWNS/ ■PRESENTING-THEIR FABULOUS Wlemi BASKETBALL CIRCUS ktf*^ The main purpose for the invitation of the Harlem Clowns was to raise money for the Boys’ Basketball team. The Harlem Clowns are a travelling globe trotter type of team which includes some ex-university players. Some are cuts out of the National Basketball Association who are able to make the squad due to their basketball promise. They travel North America every school year moving from high school to high school. They work on a 60/40 split, which means they keep 60% of the profit and the school keeps 40%. The night they played at W.R. Myers they played at a full house. This means the boys' Basketball team picked up a total of 200 dollars. This turned out to be a real success and they plan to come again next year. 14 15 VALEDICTORIAN . But as I look around this hall and I see the many people that I have grown up with I sense a special friendship bonding us all together. And I know that each of us will have special friends in mind whenever we think back on high school. Friends, whom we’ve confided in, shared secrets with, learned to trust and depend upon. Friends with whom we've laughed, cried, and friends whom we’ve grown to love. We think of all the crazy, fun times we’ve had together, and we know we can never forget. And it hurts now to say good-bye. I know that this hollow emptiness that I feel inside will not easily be filled again. But even as we rip up the very roots that we have taken so long to cultivate, we can’t help but feel a stab of excitement and an optimism for the future. Each of us knows that we have the potential to reach our highest aspirations, and if we work hard enough we can embrace our dreams. The world is out there for us to mold to our own shape and design ..,” KELLY BARANY Anderson, David Nickname: Putz Fav. saying: What a crock! MYERS AWARDS The Mr. and Ms. Myers Awards highlighted a very successful graduation ceremonies. The Grad committee decided to develop a new type of award because the Hall of Fame Awards were more associated with a popularity contest than merit. They still wanted to recognize students in their achievements, but they felt picking just two well rounded students would benefit the graduating class more. However, two students surprisingly turned out to be four, as Kelly Barany and Karen Schneider won as co-winners of the Ms Myers Awards, and Dave Anderson took the honours for Mr. Myers while Paul Chow was named runner up. The contest between these four students was very close in academic and extra curricular activities. The Grads qualifications in both academic and extra curricular activities were assessed by a point system. Teachers verified each category for consideration. In this way the Mr. and Ms. Myers Awards were more fair. The Mr and Ms Myers Award is here to stay and will be held at the Grad banquet next year also. 26 GRAD'84 AWARDS Kelly Barany Norman Turtle “Class Brains" Connie Gow David Anderson “Class Leaders" Pauline Hooge Brad Hill “Best All-Around" Hollis Miyanaga Kevin Sassa “Best Personality" Karen Schneider Randy Ross “Most Friendly” Dawn Nelson Cam Shields “Best Athletes" 27 Corinne Jensen Paul Chow "Most Likely to Succeed” Deb Holman John Chow "Class Clowns” Sheri Evanson "Best-Looking” Brent Morrison "Best Looking” Paul Turcato "Best Dressed” Louise Kaga "Best Dressed” THE DREAMS OF YESTERDAY ARE THE PROMISES OF TOMORROW “Dear Parent’s and Teacher’s, On this, my graduation, may I say thank you . . .
