Report of Faculty Experiences When Team Teaching in Higher Education
Get PDFThis article continues the project of current authors (Malak & Gambescia, 2023) who learned about the personalities, leadership styles, and pedagogical preferences of higher education instructors that have collaborated on lessons, by expanding the analysis to the experiences of team teaching in the areas of best, worse, and overall experiences in the teaching/learning process. Thirty-five faculty who had team taught in the past completed an online survey responding to 16 questions related to their team-teaching experience, using a Likert Scale rating and several open-ending questions. Respondents found that the most benefit from the experience was in collaborating with the other faculty member as opposed to benefits to the student. Furthermore, in this collaboration faculty found satisfaction in the planning and building of components in the teaching/learning process to provide a quality course versus activities related to students such as building better relationships and activities related to assessing students’ work. External influences and benefits to self that were not related to the other faculty member or student interaction were not evident. Given these results, we believe that a significant characteristic of any faculty member involved in team teaching is knowing how to lead and knowing how to follow
Teacher Education and Internship: An Evaluation of Alignment Between Preparation, Practice, and the Necessity of Engagement with Social Emotional Learning
Get PDFTeacher education programs are established to create opportunities for preservice teachers to learn actively through course work and practicum experiences. This mixed methods study looked to understand preservice perceptions of their program post covid and to assess their perceived proficiency as an educator, by examining expectations placed on preservice teachers to indicate that there is a gap in their understanding of important concepts related to pedagogy and their application of best practices. The preservice teacher survey indicated a positive experience during their practicum experiences but the skill application for behavior management, flexibility, and classroom processes indicated limited experience and little empathetic understanding. The aim of this study is to reevaluate teacher education programs to better support and provide authentic opportunities for pedagogical skill development before graduation
On Shen Jiaben’s View of Law: An Investigation of Human Rights
Get PDFDuring the late Qing Dynasty, the switch from conventional legislation to contemporary legislation was exemplified by Shen Jiaben’s human rights-focused legal perspective. Under the background of comprehensively governing the country according to law, learning from excellent traditional legal thoughts and culture is a critical way to construct a creative rule of law. Shen Jiaben oversaw the ten years of legislation modification towards the conclusion of the Qing Dynasty, which lasted the entirety of modern China. He transformed traditional Chinese law into a Western-compatible contemporary legal framework, closely related to his excellent legal thoughts. Specifically, Shen Jiaben pushed for preserving human rights in the research and creation of the legal system in contemporary China. His reasoning was based on the actual situations of modern countries, which is quite pioneering. Focusing on the social reality at that time, Shen Jiaben’s legal thought of human rights doctrine criticized and inherited the traditional Chinese legal thought of “benevolent government” while fully absorbing the essence of foreign legal culture of human rights doctrine and promoting the gradual reform of the modern legal system. Learning from Shen Jiaben’s legal view of the rights of individuals doctrine is helpful to deepen further our understanding of human rights and the rule of law in the new era and help promote the integrated construction of a country, a government, and a society under the rule of law

The press reflects the reality of what is happening, therefore, studying its quality and content always gives an opportunity to draw the adequate conclusion.Goal of the research is to determine to what extent the Caucasian (in particular, Georgian) press missed the path of its natural development due to appearing in the Soviet reality. What was the pre-Soviet and post-Soviet Georgian press like?The research was conducted on the basis of a comparative analysis of the content of the National Democratic Party newspaper “Sakartvelo” (Georgia) (1918) and the modern free public-political newspaper “Kviris Palitra” (2022).Before the forced unification of the Transcaucasian region into the Soviet Union, the local press was developing democratically. There were party newspapers, government and opposition publications. In modern reality, in the post-Soviet space, in the conditions of freedom of the press, newspapers show the tendency of total tabloidization. Irrelevant, unverified and biased information is often published.As a result of the research, it was determined that the pre-Soviet press was of high quality and developed democratically, and the Soviet experience had such a negative impact that in the post-Soviet reality, the Transcaucasian press did not have three decades to return to its natural development path
The Impact of Covid-19 on the Greek Media
Get PDFIt is widely recognized that Greece effectively managed the COVID-19 pandemic crisis through the early implementation of stringent measures and the imposition of lockdowns, similar to strategies adopted by other nations. Another noteworthy achievement was the rapid adaptation of the Greek populace to digital services. However, the situation differs in the realm of media, particularly in the context of traditional or "legacy" media. These media outlets, emerging from a decade-long financial crisis marked by significant declines in advertising revenues, confronted the adverse repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. While there was an increase in media consumption during this period, advertising revenue experienced a substantial decline. What remains unaltered, though, is the persistent "traditional dirigist role of the Greek state" in shaping the media landscape. Adversarial media or media supporting the “Opposition” political parties as well the major Opposition accused the government of discrimination regarding the allocation of the COVID-19 public communication campaign The pandemic has reaffirmed the inclination of the Greek media to endorse an interventionist state model, even in the digital age. Much of Greece's distinctive characteristics are attributed to the prominent role the state has assumed in promoting the country's economic development.This paper aims to highlight the side-effects of the COVID-19 crisis in the Greek media sector. It will also attempt to show that regardless of the changes caused due to the financial crisis and the fact that media outlets changed hands, the interplay between the Greek media and the political system still plays a pivotal role

Exploring the Research Landscape of Marketing Communication in Tourism: A Bibliometric Analysis
Get PDFThe purpose of this investigation is to map the current state of marketing communications studies in the tourism industry. In this article we used a bibliometric analysis technique. Scopus data indicated that there were 195 documents concerned with marketing communications in the tourism industry. Furthermore, data analysis was carried out using VOSviewer and Excel. This analysis involves identifying relevant keywords, co-occurrence analysis, citation analysis, and network visualization. Our findings provide an overview of research trends, prominent authors, influential journals, and key themes in the tourism marketing communications domain. The results highlight the growth in research output in this area and reveal emerging topics and research gaps. Moreover, this research uncovers collaborative networks and knowledge flows among researchers and institutions. This bibliometric analysis helped shed light on the dynamic nature of the tourism industry's marketing communications research landscape. This study serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners and policy makers interested in advancing marketing communications strategies for tourism development. The practical implication of the findings is that by understanding research trends related to tourism marketing communication, tourism practitioners can adopt more effective marketing communication strategies to promote tourist destinations, increase interaction with customers, and gain a competitive advantage
Examining the Effects among Motivation Needs, Satisfaction, and Instagram Continuance Intention in Malaysian Students
Get PDFWhile social media platforms, notably Instagram, have gained traction among university students, this study sought to understand factors influencing their continued use among a segment of Malaysian university students. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the role of satisfaction (SAT) as a mediator in the relationship between various types of motivational needs and the continued intention (CI) to use Instagram. The motivational needs under study included cognitive needs (CN), affective needs (AN), personal integrative needs (PIN), social integrative needs (SIN), and escape needs (EN). This research was built on the foundations of the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) and Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT). Using a non-probablistic sampling strategy, this study gathered data via questionnaires from a sample of 384 students from six selected universities in Klang Valley. Within the scope of the research sample, a key finding emerged: SAT notably mediates the relationship between CN, SIN, PIN, and CI. This finding illustrates the pivotal role of SAT in the context of UGT and ECT, suggesting that SAT derived from Instagram usage is a critical factor in explaining the sustained engagement of university students, based on specific motivational needs. Within the context of this study's sampled participants, this result offers insights into how SAT, influenced by distinct motivational needs, may impact the intention to continue using Instagram. In practical terms, these insights may assist social media platform developers and educational institutions in understanding and addressing the satisfaction and engagement levels of university users. Simultaneously, the quota sampling strategy employed in this study serves as a valuable model for future research in similar contexts. However, this study recommend that future research expand the sample to include a broader cross-section of Malaysian university students to enhance representativeness and generalizability
Determinants of Contraceptive Discontinuation among Homeless Women in Kenya
Get PDFThis paper examines factors affecting contraceptive discontinuity among homeless women in Kenya, using data from a sample of 384 homeless women. The findings were estimated using logistic regression. The estimated results from regression analysis show that living with a partner, drug use, health facility delivery, and knowledge of female sterilization and previously emigrating from an urban area, strongly encourage contraceptive discontinuation. The estimated results further show that being assisted by a midwife during delivery, earning above a dollar a day, and going through neonatal or pregnancy loss reduces incidences of contraceptive discontinuation. The study concludes with implications for policies that will encourage consistent use of contraceptives. These policies include the establishment of family planning programs to curb drug abuse and setting up family planning programs to educate women on the importance of initiating a form of contraception after incidences of abortions, stillbirths, or miscarriages. Other policy recommendations include the establishment of drug rehabilitation centers for women struggling with drug abuse and the provision of alternative sources of income. The government is also advised to train more midwives who can offer home based care for homeless women who cannot visit health centers
