This study aimed to investigate the relationship between self-regulation, free time management, and self-esteem variables among high school students. The research sample consisted of 193 girls and 276 boys, totaling 469 students studying in different types of high schools. The Personal Information Form, the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory, the Free Time Management Scale, and the Two-Dimensional Self-Esteem Scale were used to collect data. Independent samples t-test analysis was conducted to compare the self-regulation, free time management, and self-esteem scores of the students in terms of gender and status of doing sports. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to compare the scores based on grade level, type of high school, and types of leisure time activities. In addition, correlation analysis was conducted to test whether there is a relationship between self-regulation, free time management, and self-esteem scores of the students. The results of the analyses indicated that there was a significant difference in self-regulation scores among the students based on gender, while no significant difference was found in free time management and self-esteem scores. However, significant differences were found in self-regulation, free time management, and self-esteem scores based on the status of doing sports. There was a significant difference in self-regulation scores according to grade level, while no significant differences were found in free time management and self-esteem scores. A significant difference was found in self-regulation and free time management scores based on the type of high school, but no significant difference was found in self-esteem scores. When examined in terms of leisure time activity type, significant differences were found in self-regulation, free time management, and self-esteem scores. The grade point averages of the students showed a negative correlation with their daily average free time, yet a positive correlation with their self-regulation scores. Self-regulation scores were found to be positively related to free time management and self-esteem scores. In conclusion, it is believed that the exploration of the relationships between high school students' grade point averages, free time, self-regulation skills, free time management, and self-esteem scores may play a significant role in helping high school students achieve positive outcomes

There is a growing debate on the potential role of social media in improving government transparency and accountability and, ultimately, policy-making. This article analyses the contribution of social media, specifically Twitter, in increasing government transparency and accountability in South Africa by transferring information between the government and the public. To achieve this aim, we conducted an in-depth analysis of Twitter content, focusing on a curated selection of randomly selected top hashtags that became prominent in the South African context. These hashtags represent notable trends such as #FeesMustFall, #ZumaMustFall, #NotInMyName, #AmINext, and the #ThaboBester saga. By examining the discourses surrounding these hashtags, we aimed to uncover insights into how social media interactions intersected with government actions and reactions. Our results indicate that these hashtags served as potent catalysts for public engagement, driving discussions that critiqued government decisions and compelled timely reactions from the government

While the third category is the organization which consists of payments and benefits, location of workplace, working environment (i.e., flexible working hours), perceive alternative employment opportunities, career promotion and recognition, supervision and relationship, training and improved skills and the last category consists of work stress, work/life balance and field of study. The research design is descriptive with a correlation type of instrumentation to get the effect of variables positively or negatively with the amount. The data will collect via a structured questionnaire. This study has identified several key factors that contribute to employee turnover, including perceived organizational support, job stress, work-life balance, and available job alternatives. The results suggest that organizations can reduce employee turnover by improving perceived organizational support and work-life balance while also minimizing job stress. These findings have important implications for HR management in developing effective retention strategies to retain valuable employees and improve organizational performance

Estimating the Importance of Civil Construction for the Brazilian Economy Through Hypothetical Extraction of the Input-Output Matrix

    Get PDF
This paper aims to undertake a systemic analysis of civil construction to verify whether public investments made from 2007 onwards were able to increase the sector's productive linkages in the Brazilian economy. For this, the hypothetical extraction method of the input-output matrix and the official matrices of the country from 2005 and 2015 are used. The results show that the importance of the productive structure of the construction sector - total extraction - exceeds 7.42% of GDP in 2005 to 10.06% in 2015. This fact reveals that the civil construction sector in 2005 was the seventh most important moving to the fourth in 2015 in a total of twelve sectors considered. Another important finding lies in the fact that despite the construction sector presenting an increase in the complexity of its productive structure, it showed strong backward linkage, but low forward linkage, in both analyzed periods. Through these results, it is possible to conclude that the tax exemption of some inputs, reduction of real estate interest, expansion of credit for housing through public housing and infrastructure policies may have been essential for the increase in the complexity of the sector's productive chains between the years' from 2005 and 2015. Such findings are useful for the scientific literature that investigates the sector by bringing evidence to Brazil and to policymakers given that possibly the construction sector can be used as a strategy to promote and stimulate economic activity in times of crisis

Digital Literacy: The Right Solution to Overcome the Various Problems of Meaning and Communication on Social Media

    Get PDF
Problems with meaning arise when symbols interact in digital communication on social media between users. Different messages may be interpreted differently due to symbolic exchanges between social media users. This paper examines how message meaning relates to current social media challenges. The data used to address the issue was obtained from an online survey of social media users, and the semiotics method was employed (denotation and connotation). This study concludes that people who utilize social media have a higher propensity to read the news and become more authentic by sharing it. To read social media text messages denotatively has ideological consequences for users and connotative implications. Social media messaging's ideological impact creates the purpose of action (change of view on an issue, for example, COVID-19 vaccination). This paper contributes to digital media literacy, which develops critical thinking abilities based on digital knowledge by choosing to read news content. Besides, this paper contributes to the capacity to critically create content based on digital culture (positive news content) and offer critical commentary based on digital ethics (politeness in providing language). This article discusses the benefits and importance of news content comments and the ability to share news content critically based on digital safety by safely evaluating information before sharing it

A Survey of Different Theories of Translation in Cultural Studies

    Get PDF
The need for translation for communication between speakers of various language groups makes the statement that translation has been around for as long as language itself seem almost obvious. Since translating is such an essential task, many different ideas and theoretical reflections have been developed to help guide the process. The study of translation theory focuses on the processes involved in identifying the categories that underpin translation and the widest possible variety of texts and materials subject to translation. Any background theory of translation concerned with a text's context may include techniques that ought to be taken to solve issues and challenges in specific challenging texts. The purpose of this research is to provide translators with theoretical guidelines for practical translation by conducting a comprehensive survey of the various theories of translation as its primary emphasis and then reporting the findings within the direction of the premises of the theories and the manner in which they have been applied in practical translation. The study adopts a simple qualitative approach in connection with textual analysis. Data was collected through a simple google search of studies in translation theories. The findings of the study provide an indication that seven primary or categorial theories of translation are prevalent in the existing body of research. These theories include the philological theories, the philosophical theories, the linguistic theories, the functional theories (text-type theory, translational action theory, and Skopos theory), the Sociolinguistic theories (Interpretative theory), the Systems theories (Poly-systems theory, manipulation theory, and aesthetic theory), and the Relevance theory of translation. These theories directly underpin different perceptions and procedural systems in conducting practical translation. It was also discovered that implementing different translation strategies and methods is usually premised on the foundations of some theories

A Cognitive View of Martin Luther

    No full text
The alliance of classical and quantum computing in nature and in Martin Luther’s reading of the Bible may readjust and rejoin religion, philosophy, and science. Luther’s deepest ideas match the vision of the late US Senator Edward Kennedy in seeking the progress of the young, civilization, and the Earth. Their grace may move some heroes/heroines to avert climate crises, the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the premature loss of our grandchildren. Progress may rest on exploring the cognitive roots of Luther’s Reformation. Luther’s bids surpass autistics’ failure to lie by linking Neanderthals’ grasp of nature’s nature and of fire half a million years ago, the Yin-Yang symbol, the junction of Moises’s “Thummim” with his “Urim” stone, the Hindu Trimurti, Kali, Solomon’s wisdom, Quetzalcoatl’s going and return voyages in Mesoamerica, Buddha’s last word “appamāda,” Heraclitus’s philosophy, Jesus’s parables, Muhammad’s going from and return to Mecca in one night, Leonardo da Vinci’s art, and the research method of Galileo

Fortune Teller and Midwife: A Reflective View on Pedagogical-Artistic Management in a Reality of Multiple Crises

    Get PDF
The academic year of 2020-2021 was characterized by multiple crises, which affected the pedagogical-artistic management of the Department of Dance at the Kibbutzim College of Education, Technology and the Arts – one of the leading colleges in Israel for training teachers of dance. These crises occurred on three levels: the global, the national, and the local. On a global level, the Covid-19 outbreak brought about limitations imposed upon the public, from which emerged extreme social tensions, coupled with a political chasm that led to four election cycles, and finally a controversial military operation on the national level. On a local level, additional challenges included the department's shift to a new location in the city center, integration into a new "Faculty" organizational framework, a six-week lecturers' strike, and the replacement of two of the five administrative-staff members. These extreme conditions increased the number of secondary roles as an integral part of the Head of the Department's function described as fortune-teller, ombudswoman, clerk, real-estate agent, stunt artist, and midwife. The article focuses on presenting each of these roles and the transition from VUCA 1 (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity/Chaos, Ambiguity) to VUCA 2 (Vision, Understanding, Courage, Adaptability)
