Measuring the Relevance of Factors on Cross-Sectional Returns with Decision Trees

    Get PDF
This study is concerned with new ways to identify and analyse the factors on cross-sectional returns in financial markets with respect to their time-variability. Therefore, classification and regression trees and conventional regression models are applied. This study uses data on the S&P 500 from 1999 to 2019. Empirical findings show high time variability of factors on cross-sectional returns. The high level of time-variability is not dependent on the applied model. It is also shown that CARTs and conventional regression models have low power when it comes to identifying the factors on cross-sectional returns or predicting the returns themself

    Get PDF
Collective memory as a process implies that social groups' collective memory in society, changes and develops over time. The paper adopts a phenomenological study using Yadin Dudai’s ‘collective memory as a process’, in the interest of assessing how shifting collective memory (process) of gender roles in society influences the depiction of gender roles in Indian television commercials. Further, it goes on to explain how such advertisements can also impact society's collective memory of gender roles. The study investigates the issue of whether or not there has been a shift in how gender roles are portrayed in commercials in association with the collective memory (process) of society. Studying this change in the portrayal of gender roles in television advertising does indeed have broader implications as to how society perceives gender roles, emphasizing the significance of this study. The research findings show that there has been a noticeable change in how women are portrayed in television commercials as sporting champions, motorists, successful politicians, and business personnel in relation to the changing collective memory of society. The study ultimately determines that the influence of commercials on modifying society's collective memory of gender roles and the influence of collective memory on the evolution of gender role depictions in commercials are reciprocal in nature

    Get PDF
Journalists had to deal with varying information from government entities with power in the disaster sector when covering the 2018 Sunda Strait tsunami. Indonesian catastrophe journalism now faces new difficulties as a result of unequal and shifting information. This is especially true when it comes to respecting the rule that information should be presented quickly and accurately in order to mitigate disasters. This study aims to learn more about the journalism practices at KompasTV, CNN Indonesia, MetroTV, and Trans7 in the news production process as well as how journalists select news sources in emergency situations, particularly when a tsunami strikes the Sunda Strait. According to this study's findings, Indonesia's four top mass media outlets place a high value on issues including validating catastrophe information, upholding a journalistic code of ethics, and the skill of journalists covering disasters. Journalists rely on and trust information obtained from government organizations with power over disasters and other mass media. Because it is impossible to ensure the accuracy of the material posted on social media, journalists avoid and do not utilize it

A Systematic Literature Review of Localization Strategies of the Global Format Reality TV in China in the Past Decade (2012-2022)

    Get PDF
The past few decades have witnessed the popularity of global format reality TV programs in China, paralleled by a growing academic interest in comprehending the process of localizing these format programs. However, the existing literature on the subject comprises diverse and fragmented selected cases, revealing a research gap in terms of a systematic exploration and comprehensive review of the adaptation process of format television programs in China. This study employs a systematic literature review to examine the localization of format reality shows in China over the past decades. It aims to provide practical strategies for format programs to enter the Chinese media market and identify the gaps in this area. The general research question is what strategies have been used to adapt format reality shows in China. A total of 40 articles from CNKI, Google Scholar, and Scopus are selected for qualitative synthesis. The findings indicate that the localization of format reality TV need to incorporate more local elements to enter the Chinese media market due to the cultural differences and the strict regulation from the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SARFT). Further research should investigate the impact of SARFT’s regulations on format programs and the subsequent shift towards local production in China

The Analysis of World Information Warfare and Information Security in the Context of the Russian-Ukrainian War

    Get PDF
The appearance of significant transnational information processes has given rise to new threats to international security, such as information warfare. The problem of employing information warfare, which has become particularly acute and relevant, can be observed through the example of the full-scale war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Numerous information attacks by the aggressor country in the form of fake news dissemination confirm this. The latter requires in-depth study for the development of countermeasures, the application of combat algorithms, and the organization of modern information security. This article aims to introduce a methodology of information security based on several advanced defensive administrative measures, including a review of a series of response cycles to information attacks, mainly when conducted through hybrid and information technologies in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Given the rapid dynamics of contemporary information processes and associated information threats, a complex set of countermeasures is necessary enabling an effective response to threats and timely prediction. The research methodology is based on general scientific and empirical methods of analysis and scientific cognition, including observation, systemic analysis, classification, scientific abstraction, statistical analysis, analogy, graphical generalization, and systematization. According to the results of the conducted research, it has been established that the distribution of managerial decisions into "fast" and "slow" allows for combining response to attacks with information accumulation to identify the most vulnerable elements and predict future information warfare. In particular, a process of responding to information attacks consisting of several stages of administrative measures has been proposed. Attention is given to the need to consider the initial data for further use in each relevant war period when repeating the cycle following the completion of the specified four-step countermeasure algorithm. Additionally, it has been identified that transmitting data on unlawful aggressor attacks to the information collection system requires careful planning and coordination among various operations and structures. The authors have substantiated and proposed the necessity and application of coordinated administrative measures among information security entities

A Study on the Influencing Factors of Social Media in the Communication of Cultural Heritage Education: A Systematic Literature Review

    Get PDF
This study examined the impact of social media on disseminating cultural heritage education. After reviewing two databases, 29 articles met our inclusion criteria. This study found that social media can expand the educational scope of cultural heritage and increase public awareness and interest in cultural heritage tourism sites and museums. However, social media is only a publicity channel. It is necessary to consider five influencing factors in social media: the subject of information distribution, the motivation of distribution, the purpose of distribution, the content of distribution, and the method of distribution, and to analyze the specific practices of social media in disseminating cultural heritage education. Therefore, more research is needed to explore the influence of social media on cultural heritage education dissemination, to explore the educational nature of social media in cultural heritage education communication, and to provide a theoretical basis for social media to promote cultural heritage education dissemination
