    Get PDF
This study discusses the communication and inheritance of Huangmei Opera on TikTok. Adopting the 5W model comprehensively analyses five aspects: communication subject, content, object, medium, and effect. Huangmei opera, as a part of Chinese traditional opera, faces the challenge of a shrinking audience and market. However, TIK TOK, as a short video platform with wide influence, provides new opportunities for the dissemination of Huangmei opera. The study shows that vloggers at different levels play an important role on TIK TOK, especially high-influence professional actors and theatre troupes, who have effectively promoted Huangmei Opera by leveraging their large fan bases and high-quality content. Medium- to low-impact and emerging vloggers have also attracted a large number of viewers to Huangmei Opera through their diverse and interactive content. The findings show a significant positive correlation between viewers' interactive behaviours (e.g., liking, commenting, sharing) and viewing duration, suggesting that improving content quality and viewer engagement is crucial for communication effectiveness. This paper also explores the features of the TIK TOK, such as fragmented communication, interactive communication, precise pushing and community effect, which help Huangmei opera expand its influence among young audiences. Despite challenges such as differences in content quality and the short attention span of young audiences, the communication effect of Huangmei Opera on TikTok has been significantly improved through cooperation and innovation. The research in this paper provides new perspectives and practical suggestions for the communication strategy of Huangmei Opera in the digital era and further enriches the modern communication path of traditional art

    Get PDF
Previous studies have investigated the influence of social media as a digital resource for parental support. However, little research is available regarding parent WeChat groups and their impact in providing online parenting support. Given that parents in China frequently have specific anxiety around their children's education, this is an important research area. Thus, this study examines the moderating effect of Parents’ Anxiety about Their Children’s Education (PAE) in the relationship between parents WeChat group use and online support. Using a sample of primary school parents (N = 493), the study found a positive association between parents WeChat group use and online support. The results indicated that PAE moderated the association between parents WeChat group engagement and online support, but not for the relationship between parents WeChat group intensity and online support. This study contributes to expanding the literature in WeChat group use, online support and PAE in East Asian countries with similar social and cultural contexts

This study enhances the understanding of sustainability reporting by examining Icelandic auditors’ readiness to engage with existing sustainability frameworks. In collaboration with the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Iceland, a survey was conducted in 2022. The results highlighted a significant gap in knowledge and experience among Icelandic auditors regarding eight specific sustainability frameworks—which, notably, lacked any legal audit requirements at the time. In a similar survey in the United States focused on auditors’ familiarity with sustainability reporting within financial statements and their practical experience in this area came to comparable conclusions. To build on these findings, future research could utilize qualitative interviews to delve deeper into auditors’ perspectives and practices, particularly within audit teams. Exploring how audit firms develop expertise in sustainability reporting practices could also yield important insights into effective strategies. This study points to a critical need for improved education and training in sustainability reporting. The recent requirement for mandatory audits of sustainability reports—introduced after our survey—underscores the urgency of addressing these educational gaps

    Get PDF
With the internationalization and globalization of recent decades, English has increasingly become a medium of instruction at universities worldwide. This survey was conducted in a local Chinese university, and focused on college students’ needs and satisfaction regarding content, instructors, and assessment. A mixed method was employed, combining quantitative data from a questionnaire and qualitative data from interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed in SPSS 26.0, and qualitative data were analyzed in NVivo 12 plus. The findings reveal that students generally have a positive attitude towards the needs, content, instructor, and assessment satisfaction in EMI programs, which increased steadily. There is no significant difference in students’ perceptions by gender and self-proficiency, and perceptions of needs, instructor, content, and assessment satisfaction are closely correlated with the overall satisfaction. The study suggests that course design tailored students’ practical needs and advanced teaching techniques are crucial for enhancing EMI courses. Feedback was limited in students’ participation and class size. Gender differences tend to diminish in EMI university settings and English proficiency should be assessed effectively. Needs and satisfaction with content, instructor, and assessment are vital in the overall satisfaction. These insights contribute valuable recommendations for the effective implementation of EMI programs and propose avenues for further research

    Get PDF
The systematic review is a narrative on Islamic representation and Islamophobia in global media from 2002 to 2022, synthesizing studies with high impact as indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest. The main trends confirm the consistent image of Muslims as cultural outsiders, posing a threat to security; on recurring themes of fear-based discourses and binary oppositions of "Us" (Western societies) and "Them" (Muslim communities). This review evaluates how these representations endorse and reinforce Islamophobic sentiments, shape the public perception and policies that affect the Muslim community, and underscore the role of media in reinforcing social gaps. This evaluative insight calls on more balanced journalism and ethical media practices, journalistic responsibility, and methodological rigour, oriented toward inclusive media

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unprecedented threat to global health and well-being, with social media emerging as a pivotal platform for organizations to disseminate outbreak-related information swiftly, thereby shaping public risk perceptions and influencing preventive behaviours. Guided by the Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) model, this study examines COVID-19-related content posted by organizations on Sina Weibo, focusing on the communication strategies employed and their impact on public engagement. Using content analysis and Semantic Network Analysis (SNA), a dataset of 10,996 salient Weibo posts was collected and analysed. Findings reveal that word prevalence, inter-word relationships, and the use of CERC model elements varied across different crisis stages and organization types. The analysis indicates that posts predominantly emphasized case reports, responders, governmental interventions, and positive outcomes. Furthermore, in terms of public engagement, certain content dimensions—such as requests for feedback, expressions of appreciation, and provision of detailed informational resources—were particularly effective in drawing public attention

The Influence of Strategic Media on Nation Building: The Case of Sudan

    Get PDF
The study systematically investigated the hypothesis that strategic media initiatives promote and accelerate nation-building processes (NBP) in Sudan. The strategic media variables examined included three essential ones: media language perfection (MLP), qualitative media coverage (QMC), and information building plan (IBP). Using a multilinear regression model (MLRM), the study analyzed the relationships among these predicting variables and their impact on the dependent variable. The evaluation of how the three predictors impact nation-building and state stability required the distribution of a survey containing 21 questions. 200 Sudanese journalists from different parts of the country received the questionnaire. They represent diverse backgrounds across private and public media institutions, including male and female participants. The principal data collection technique adopted by the study was the online survey, supplemented by other secondary sources such as journals, books, and professional internet websites. The use of a five-point Likert scale was feasible to evaluate responses. The analysis indicated that the three predictors collectively explained 94.2% of the variation in NBP (R² = 0.942, p < 0.001). Among these predictors, IBP demonstrated the highest impact (β = 0.624), followed by MLP (β = 0.589) and QMC (β = 0.247). These findings underscore the significant role of professional media in Sudanese nation-building by facilitating practical initiatives and addressing internal conflicts. The study contributes robust empirical evidence and theoretical insights into the efforts of Sudanese journalists, emphasizing the critical role of strategic media in fostering nation-building and enhancing state stability
