    No full text
Adolescent suicide presents a critical public health crisis, exacerbated by cumulative trauma exposure and insufficiently trauma-responsive mental health systems in schools. This study investigates the efficacy of trauma-informed care (TIC) models integrated into school-based mental health programs for reducing suicide risk among adolescents aged 12–18. Utilizing a quasi-experimental mixed-methods design, the research deployed a multi-tiered TIC framework across 20 public schools, involving 600 participants stratified by gender and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Quantitative data were collected using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and ACE Questionnaire, while qualitative insights were gathered through semi-structured interviews analyzed using thematic analysis. Results demonstrated statistically significant reductions in suicidal ideation (mean difference = ?1.4, Cohen’s d = 0.85), psychological distress (mean difference = ?2.1, d = 0.78), and increased school engagement (mean difference = +1.5, d = 0.65) over a 16-week period. Subgroup analysis revealed greater responsiveness among female students and those with moderate ACE scores, while higher dropout and fidelity variability among certain cohorts exposed implementation limitations. The Generalized Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) confirmed the robustness of outcome predictions across clusters. The study concludes that TIC integration in educational settings yields multidimensional improvements in adolescent mental health and school functioning. Recommendations include gender-responsive program design, trauma-tiered intervention delivery, continuous fidelity monitoring, and policy-level integration through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). These findings support the systemic transformation of school environments into trauma-informed ecosystems that preemptively disrupt suicide trajectories and promote sustainable mental resilience. Neurodiversity and equity: Designing culturally responsive ABA tools for diverse populations

The intersection of neurodiversity advocacy and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) represents a critical frontier in contemporary autism intervention research. This comprehensive review examines the challenges and opportunities in developing culturally responsive ABA tools that honor neurodiversity principles while addressing the diverse needs of autistic individuals across different cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Traditional ABA approaches have faced significant criticism from neurodiversity advocates who argue that these interventions often prioritize neurotypical conformity over authentic self-expression and cultural identity. Simultaneously, research demonstrates persistent disparities in autism diagnosis and intervention access across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic lines, with marginalized communities experiencing delayed identification, reduced service quality, and culturally inappropriate treatment approaches (Majebi & Hamza, 2022; Okoli et al., 2024). This article synthesizes current literature to explore how ABA practitioners and researchers can reimagine intervention design through a culturally responsive lens that embraces neurodiversity principles. We examine emerging frameworks that integrate cultural humility, family-centered approaches, and strength-based perspectives into ABA methodology. The analysis reveals that successful culturally responsive ABA tools require fundamental shifts in practitioner training, assessment protocols, intervention targets, and outcome measurement approaches. Key findings indicate that effective programs must move beyond deficit-focused models to embrace autistic individuals' intrinsic strengths while acknowledging how cultural factors influence communication styles, social expectations, and family dynamics. The review identifies several promising practices including collaborative goal-setting with families and autistic individuals, culturally adapted assessment instruments, bilingual intervention delivery, and community-based service models. However, significant barriers remain including limited practitioner diversity, inadequate cultural competency training, systemic biases in diagnostic criteria, and insufficient research involving diverse populations. Recommendations include developing standardized cultural responsiveness protocols, expanding practitioner training requirements, increasing research funding for diverse populations, and establishing partnerships with community organizations serving marginalized groups. Future directions must prioritize participatory research approaches that center autistic voices and cultural perspectives in intervention design. This paradigm shift requires sustained collaboration between ABA practitioners, neurodiversity advocates, cultural communities, and autistic individuals themselves. Only through such comprehensive transformation can the field develop truly equitable and effective intervention approaches that honor both neurodiversity principles and cultural diversity.
