    Drinking water quality parameters in Africa and the United States: Implications for public health

    This study provides a comparative overview of drinking water quality parameters in Africa and the United States, highlighting their implications for public health. Water quality encompasses physical, chemical, biological, and radiological characteristics, with significant variations influenced by source conditions and treatment processes. In Africa, inadequate infrastructure, pollution, and limited resources result in high levels of microbiological contaminants and chemical pollutants, leading to a high burden of waterborne diseases. Pathogens such as Escherichia coli and protozoan parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia are prevalent, contributing to substantial morbidity and mortality. Chemical contamination, including nitrates, pesticides, and heavy metals, exacerbates these issues. Conversely, the United States benefits from advanced water treatment technologies and stringent regulations, yet challenges persist. Issues such as lead contamination from aging pipes, emerging pollutants like PFAS, and localized contamination events continue to pose risks. Although regulatory frameworks like the Safe Drinking Water Act and proposed enhancements to the Lead and Copper Rule aim to mitigate these problems, maintaining and upgrading infrastructure remains critical. This study highlights the need for targeted interventions and policy improvements. For Africa, investing in infrastructure and treatment technologies is crucial, while in the U.S., addressing lead and emerging contaminants requires ongoing vigilance and investment. Further research is needed to assess the effectiveness of interventions, understand long-term health impacts, and develop sustainable solutions for enhancing global water quality and public health.     Chemical and mineralogical characterisation of Duguri Galena (Bauchi State, Nigeria)

    This paper presents a detailed study of Galena samples' chemical and mineralogical properties collected from the Duguri area in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The sample for the research was sourced from Duguri town, Bauchi State, Nigeria. The sourced sample underwent comminution, homogenization, and sampling using the Coning and Quartering method followed by the Jones Riffle sampling method. Chemical analysis results of the crude ore sample showed the presence of Lead oxide (PbO) at an assay of 36.827 %, with Silica as the major gangue mineral present at 45.823 %. The other compounds present in the ore are ZnO (9.656 %), Fe2O3 (8.290 %), Al2O3 (3.409 %), TiO2 (1.072 %), WO3 (0.312 %), and AgO (0.001 %). Mineralogical Characterisation using XRD revealed the phases present in the ore as; Galena (47 %), Cerussite (19.0 %), Quartz (18.8 %), and Gratonite (15 %), hence confirming that the soured ore was Galena (PbS). SEM/EDS results showed the morphology of the sourced sample, containing Lead with other impurities in their quartz form within the ore matrix, with the presence of other elemental constituents (Si, C, and O).     This study provides a comprehensive review of quantum cryptography and its implications for U.S. national security in the face of emerging quantum technologies. The primary objective is to investigate the potential of quantum cryptographic methods in creating unbreakable encryption and their future role in enhancing digital security. Employing a systematic literature review and content analysis, the study draws on recent peer-reviewed articles, institutional reports, and academic journals from 2013 to 2023. The methodology focuses on evaluating the evolution, current state, and challenges of quantum cryptography, along with its integration into existing security frameworks. Key findings reveal that Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) offer promising solutions against the threats posed by quantum computing to classical encryption methods. However, the practical implementation of these technologies faces significant challenges, including technological limitations and the need for global standardization. The study underscores the urgency for U.S. national security policy to prioritize the development and integration of quantum-resistant cryptographic technologies and to foster international collaboration for standardization. Finally, the study highlights the transformative potential of quantum cryptography in digital security, emphasizing the need for continued research and collaboration to overcome implementation challenges. Future research directions include the development of efficient quantum cryptographic protocols and ethical considerations surrounding the deployment of quantum technologies.     UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF INNOVATIVE HR PRACTICES FOR SUPERIOR ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE: A TRANSFORMATIVE CASE STUDY OF SMES IN OMAN

    As the business landscape in Oman continues to evolve, it is becoming increasingly clear that innovative HR practices will play a key role in determining the success of SMEs. In the coming years, we can expect to see a growing emphasis on HR practices that prioritize employee empowerment, engagement, and development. It will be interesting to explore how such practices will impact organizational performance in the SME sector of Oman. A quantitative research approach was adopted to achieve this, and data was collected using a structured survey questionnaire. The survey received responses from 383 randomly selected proprietors across all regions of the Sultanate of Oman. The data collected from the questionnaires was used to evaluate the participants' feedback on different innovative HR practices and their impact on organizational performance. The findings from the data collected showed that there is a positive and significant effect of innovative HR practices on organizational performance in terms of recruitment & and selection, learning & and development, performance appraisal and employee commitment.
