Archeologia, tafonomia e antropologia: primi risultati di uno studio interdisciplinare sui rinvenimenti degli scavi 2008 a Rocavecchia
Get PDFEnThe excavations of Messapic funerary contexts of Rocavecchia (Melendugno, Lecce), located in the south of Salento (Apulian peninsula, Southern Italy), were carried out from the late 1920s up to the 1970s. Unfortunately, we only have documentation regarding the type of tomb and to the grave goods, but no taphonomic and anthropological data had been recorded on the Messapic population of Rocavecchia. In 2008 in an area south of Grotta della Poesia the archaeological excavations of funerary contexts started again under the direction of prof. Cosimo Pagliara. Thanks to anthropological excavation, the taphonomic data necessary for the interpretation of the funeral practices were recorded. The recovery and the anthropological study of 83 skeletons provided data on sex and age at death to better understand the organization of the funerary context. The double archaeological and anthropological approach is required to understand a still little-known society: that of the Messapians.ItGli scavi dei contesti funerari messapici di Rocavecchia (Melendugno, Lecce), sito archeologico nel sud del Salento (penisola pugliese, Italia meridionale), sono stati condotti dalla fine degli anni Venti fino agli anni Settanta. Tuttavia disponiamo soltanto della documentazione relativa al tipo di tomba e al corredo, in quanto, prima d'ora, non sono mai stati registrati dati tafonomici e antropologici sulla popolazione messapica di Rocavecchia. Dal 2008 sono ripresi gli scavi archeologici di contesti funerari in un'area a sud di Grotta della Poesia, sotto la direzione del prof. Cosimo Pagliara. Grazie allo scavo antropologico sono stati registrati i dati tafonomici necessari per l'interpretazione delle pratiche funerarie. Inoltre il recupero e lo studio di 83 scheletri ha fornito dati sul sesso e sull'età alla morte, necessari per comprendere meglio l'organizzazione dell'area sepolcrale e l'utilizzo della stessa da parte della comunità umana. But Pausanias offers us a different clue, when stating that the oikist was the son of Ares. Get PDFEnThe Rocavecchia site is located on a promontory along the Adriatic coast of Salento, about 23 km south-east of Lecce. During the Middle Ages the settlement was characterized by an orthogonal urban pattern, typical of French bastides. The asped church was erected between the end of XIII and the XIV century in the center of the settlement, and shows a single aisle; the lateral rather small chapels are the result of subsequent modifications. Very close to the church and next to one of the chapels is a well, from which a large quantity of ceramic and wood remains were recovered, including the ancient bread stamp studied in this contribution. The features of the find and its preservation (due to the constant presence of ground water inside the well) offers a rare opportunity to study these kinds of wooden artefacts that survive. The wooden bread stamp, the only one known for this area, shows the formula IC XC NI KA that underlines the connection to the Byzantine rite. The discovery allows us to add new elements to the panorama of bread stamps that circulated in the Salento area which, currently, can be considered to be the territory with the highest number of these finds.ItIl sito di Rocavecchia, situato su un promontorio lungo la costa adriatica del Salento, a circa 23 km a sud-est di Lecce, era caratterizzato nel Medioevo da un modello urbano ortogonale tipico delle bastide francesi. Vicino alla chiesa, un pozzo ha restituito numerosi resti ceramici e lignei, tra cui un antico stampo per il pane. Per un'antropologia della scrittura del contesto epigrafico di Grotta Poesia (Roca Vecchia)
Get PDFEnSince its discovery in the 1980s, the sea cave Grotta Poesia in southern Apulia has aroused great interest among specialists of the ancient world. In this essay, the author attempts to identify the disciplinary tools necessary for a comprehensive scientific approach to the study of this epigraphic and archaeological monument. Firstly, the comparison with other caves of the ancient world, with special attention to the maritime sanctuaries, in search of analogies and differences in contexts and cults. Secondly, sociological and functional studies of writing, with an extension (third point) to the cognitive and neuroscientific approach to the process of writing. Fourthly, an overview of linguistic theories such as speech act theory or performative speech and writing acts. Finally, the sociographical consideration to identify the Messapic writer of the Grotta in comparison with the Messapic epigraphy known so far. Furthermore, interdisciplinarity is an indispensable prerequisite, without which any attempt to uncover the difficult epigraphic layout of the grotta will fail.ItLa grotta marittima di Grotta Poesia, nella Puglia meridionale, ha suscitato grande interesse tra gli specialisti del mondo antico fin dalla sua scoperta negli anni Ottanta del secolo scorso. In questo lavoro l'Autrice cerca di identificare gli strumenti disciplinari necessari per un approccio scientifico esaustivo allo studio di questo monumento epigrafico e archeologico. In primo luogo, il confronto con altre grotte del mondo antico, con particolare attenzione ai santuari marittimi, alla ricerca di analogie e differenze nei contesti e nei culti. In secondo luogo, studi sociologici e funzionali sulla scrittura, con un'estensione (terzo punto) all'approccio cognitivo e neuroscientifico al processo di scrittura. In quarto luogo, una rassegna di teorie linguistiche come la teoria dell'atto linguistico o degli atti performativi parlati e scritti. Infine, la visione sociografica, per identificare la tipologia sociografica di chi ha scritto sulle pareti della Grotta rispetto al resto dell'epigrafia messapica. Inoltre, l'interdisciplinarità è un presupposto imprescindibile, senza il quale ogni tentativo di svelare l'insidioso insieme epigrafico della Grotta è destinato a fallire
