The New Fables. Generatività e conoscenza tra fenomenologia, mediologia e post-medialità = The New Fables. Generativity and knowledge between phenomenology, mediology, and post-mediality
This paper explores the intersection of art, technology, and human experience in the context of generative artificial intelligence (GAI). It examines the implications of GAI in artistic creation, emphasizing its role in expanding and transforming traditional artistic practices. Pireddu uses the exhibition I'm not a robot as a case study, highlighting how artists integrate GAI into their works to challenge and reinterpret the human condition through technology. Francesco D'Isa, Fabrizio Ajello, and Piero Fragola with Matteo Giampaglia utilize GAI to produce unique artistic expressions that blend digital and traditional media, questioning the boundaries between human and machine creativity. Pireddu delves into the phenomenological aspects of human-machine interaction, drawing on Merleau-Ponty's concept of the body as an expressive space and Varela's enactive cognition. He argues that GAI redefines the creative process, necessitating a new understanding of the artist's role and the agency of technological tools. This shift challenges traditional notions of authorship and authenticity in art. Furthermore, the article situates these artistic practices within a broader mediological framework, considering the socio-technical systems that shape contemporary culture. Pireddu reflects on the implications of post-mediality, where traditional media boundaries dissolve, and cultural production is increasingly mediated by software and algorithms. He highlights the critical role of artists in navigating and interpreting these changes, positioning art as a means to anticipate and adapt to technological and environmental transformations. In conclusion, The New Fables presents a nuanced analysis of the evolving relationship between art, technology, and human experience, underscoring the generative potential of AI in redefining cultural practices and knowledge creatio
“Just before”. Intimate partner violence: Virtual reality and a new focus for perpetrators’ motivation for treatment
The Istanbul Convention (art. 16) regulates interventions to prevent and combat male violence against women, stressing the need for intervention to reduce perpetrators’ recidivism. In this research the paternal function is a motivating factor for treatment that facilitates men's access to the awareness of their violence on children, especially when they are put into their shoes. In this case virtual immersive reality becomes an efficient tool as it can transfer the user and his emotionality into the world of the victims. To explore the impact on the recognition of responsibility for one's own violent actions on the other and on the motivation for treatment, forty-six men participated in ViDaCS serious game, involving a virtual scene of a couple a moment before the outburst of negative emotions takes over, first in the role of a man, then in that of a child who witnesses the scene. Quanti-qualitative questionnaires and focused interviews were administered to participants. Data were respectively analysed with frequency analysis and thematic analysis. Results allowed the men who have lived the scene to access emotional contents and experiences, demonstrating the effectiveness of VR (Virtual Reality) in creating a trigger in the man's awareness and his internal motivation to change.
Fostering participation of women survivors of violence in community-based advocacy & prevention networks: Contributions towards a collaborative model
Violence against women persists and prevails worldwide. Women who survive are isolated in service-providing systems, with case management professionals who support navigating within the judicial, welfare, and health systems. The present study results from a PAR project “PEER NETWORK: Gender Violence and Empowerment” aimed at potentiating partnerships with women who are survivors of gender violence establishing a nationwide network of women representatives for advocacy and violence prevention. This qualitative study analyses 18 focus-group meetings transcribed verbatim (2021-2022) through thematic analysis with MAXQDA, focused on four domains: a) co-construction of guidelines for Peer Networks; b) notions of leadership and advocacy; c) facilitation and meeting management; d) roles for professionals and e) sustainability challenges. Results indicate that to build and sustain a survivor’s network and support peer advocacy efforts, the survivors require systematized knowledge of key documents and information on gender-based violence to integrate and validate their personal experiences, require a framework of systems articulated to increase effectiveness, anticipate critical incidents/crisis, and advocate a culture of prevention of abusive interpersonal relations. The resulting co-constructed PAR model reflects the multidimensional nature of gender-based violence and the relevance of extended community-based networks for gendered-based violence prevention
