Amitav Ghosh’s Jungle Nama. Writing Beyond the Novel
The publication of Jungle Nama (2021) marks a new turn in Amitav Ghosh’s poetics. The author moves from his own studies in environmental humanities to question the aesthetics of the novel and to reevaluate the vitalism of peasants’ traditions, which he opposes to Western rationalism. With Jungle Nama the author turns to verse and myth to admonish and set an example of respect for the non-human. From an aesthetical viewpoint, Ghosh transposes the narrative from the traditional Bengali versions to the language and media of world literature and world arts. The result is what we call the Jungle Nama Project, where visual art, music, literature, philology, and drama come together to disrupt the epistemological dominance of the Western forms

Fighting Gender Equality under the Pandemic. The Case of Polish and Hungarian Anti-Gender Equality and Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies under the COVID-19 Crisis
The COVID-19 pandemic created a public health, economic and social crisis that had to be handled by states capable of holding tight such societal processes. During this period, right-wing politicians have initiated discourses and policies that portray enemies not related to the virus but to various minorities and oppressed social groups, including women and sexual minorities, and offered exclusionary policies as 'remedies' against these imaginary threats. This paper compares such anti-gender and anti-LGBTQ+ policies in Poland and Hungary under the COVID-19 pandemic and asks: How have right-wing populist leaders in Poland and Hungary utilised the crisis to issue anti-gender equality and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation? What are the main commonalities and differences between the adopted policies and the reactions? In answering these questions, we argue that the governments of two East-Central European EU-member states, Poland and Hungary, with severely weakened democratic institutions, utilised the momentum of the crisis to restrict women's rights and the rights of sexual minorities, playing on gendered nationalist sentiments of the protection of the nation
Anti-Regime Movements in Illiberal Regimes in East-Central Europe: a Theoretical Model
The paper introduces an ideal type of anti-regime movements against illiberal regimes in East-Central Europe, employing the Weberian concept of the ideal type as a theoretical model. These movements aim to constrain regime building, restructure political institutions, and prevent the expansion of illiberal regimes into subsystems such as civil society, culture, and the economy. Initially focused on specific conflicts, these movements often broaden their scope over time, attracting individuals who were not directly involved in the original disputes but who seek to express general discontent with illiberal regimes. The ideal type is differentiated from counter-hegemonic and public policy movements. Empirical analysis of this ideal type is based on large-scale protest waves in Hungary and Poland. The characteristics of the anti-regime movement are shaped by historical legacies and the particular aspects of de-democratization in East-Central Europe, rooted in the democratic transition of 1989. This concept of anti-regime movements can serve as a crucial foundation for empirical research, offering insights into the differences between social movements in Western and Eastern Europe
EnThe study aims to account for two unknown manuscripts preserved in the Farnesiano Archive of the State Archives of Naples which are added to the three already known and packaged for Penne, Campli and Cittaducale. These are examples of reforms, orders and provisions issued, after extensive consideration, in 1571 and in the following years by Margaret of Austria, natural daughter of Charles V, Duchess of Penne and numerous other Abruzzo and non-Abruzzo fiefdoms. The reforms are part of the broader project of the reports initiated by the Duchess for the regulation of the duties of the various local bodies and related officials and their emoluments in the framework of the governance of the lands of the composite Farnesian "State" of Abruzzo. The five manuscripts were compiled for the respective lands within a homogeneous political-administrative and, consequently, scriptural design. The "external" description is critically provided in their peculiar characteristics (state of conservation, binding, watermark, collation and cartulation, type of writing, differences between the manuscripts). The index is provided in the appendix with a reference to the papers of each of the five manuscripts, compared, in reference to the individual orders or tables of each location. The study is part of the broader program, pursued by the Author since 2002, of archival excavation, identification and edition with the related analysis of the medieval and modern documentation of Penne and of the Medici and then Farnese fiefdoms
EnWith this study we will try to propose a historical, historiographical and critical reconstruction of the first months of life of the National Socialist NSDAP-DNVPSTAHLHELM coalition cabinet chaired by Adolf Hitler and Franz von Papen starting from the end of January 1933. In attempting what has just been programmatically and preliminarily stated, we will adopt a special and unique point of view, that of the apostolic nuncio to Berlin, mgr. Cesare Orsenigo, made available to our research and that of others by an extraordinary work of safeguarding, disseminating and enhancing the ecclesiastical documentary heritage, work carried out by some groups of researchers and by various important Italian, German and Vatican scientific-cultural institutions. This important work, still in progress, has as its objective the accurate digitization of the entire documentary heritage of the German apostolic nunciature in the period between 1930 and 1939 presided over by Orsenigo. An integral part of the laborious but essential and precious process of digitizing the thousands of dispatches sent by the nuncio of Villa San Carlo to the secretary of state Pacelli, is a meticulous critical edition understood as an apparatus of notes, insights and bibliographic indications accompanying the documents and disposition of the scholar who, like us here, is preparing for a critical examination of the available material. Therefore, we will introduce in our discussion a series of considerations, news, information and judgments, the result of the work in the field of the Lombard prelate, former nuncio in Hungary, who worked through scrupulous and close negotiating relationships in close contact with the leaders and officials of the Germany between the late republican age and the first years of the Nazi dictatorship, without skimping on completely personal, subjective and personal assessments and behaviors to be accompanied by a scrupulous and observant respect for the rigorous protocols that the diplomacy of the time imposed on officials such as Orsenigo
