U.S.-Taliban negotiations and the Doha Agreement (2001-2020)

    Get PDF
The article analyzes the negotiation process and the final agreement that ended the U.S. war in Afghanistan. While general attention was dedicated to the dramatic withdrawal and the Taliban takeover, less focus was directed towards the negotiations and the agreement between the U.S. and the insurgent group, signed in Doha on the 29th of February 2020. The paper underscores two pivotal observations. Firstly, despite the agreement's emphasis on peace, its primary objective is a strategic advantage for both parties. Secondly, the events of August 2021 were not unforeseen but were rooted in the negotiation process and the specific provisions outlined in the finalized agreement. Methodologically, the chronological proximity of these events necessitated the use of debates within the U.S. Congress, reports, and existing literature

Ancora sulle cosiddette «colonie latine fittizie» transpadane (Asc. In Pis. 3 Clark)

Asconius In Pis. 3 Clark, is the only witness of the institution of latin colonies in Transpadana (indeed to be extended also to main urban settlements of Cispadana not yet organized in the forms of Roman towns), in different shapes from the previous ones settled, and of the attribution of ius Latii to the concerned inhabitants, by Pompeus Strabo in 89 BC Which were those differences is disputed. Overlooked theories of the Authors about it, the way in which this new type of colonies was settled and their Constitution are investigated, as well as if their magistrates could achieve Roman citizenship, and eventually in which way, and also if the attribution of ius Latii should be referred just to the inhabitants of these towns or to all Cisalpini, point related to the content of ius Latii starting from 89 BC

EnThe territory of the the municipality of Specchia (Lecce), located in central-southern Salento, despite a certain density of evidence documenting several phases of occupation, relating to different chronological phases, does not appear to have been the subject of systematic studies over the years. This circumstance has given rise to a lack of knowledge of the territory and its settlement dynamics, which a few studies and investigations have attempted to remedy, which have nevertheless remained exceptional in nature. The present work fits into this incomplete framework of knowledge for this strip of the Salento peninsula, and documents a complex of evidence, consisting mainly of cuts in the rocky bank, some of which describe pit burials which, subjected to stratigraphic excavation, have not failure to return important information. This preliminary study allowed to systematically investigate only some of the evidence recognized in the area, while numerous contexts remain documented but waiting to be studied, making further interventions extremely desirable that allow us to deepen our knowledge of the emergencies observed.
