    Turnover Intentions and Work Contentment of Private Institutions’ Academic and Non-Academic Personnel in Dagupan City, Philippines

    Employees are considered as the most valuable assets of an organization.  Employee turnover is an important factor in all organization including the institutions. Replacing employees can affect an institution’s productivity, expenses, and overall performance. Turnover is the process through which staff leaves a business or organization and that business or organization replaces them. The objective of the study is to determine the turnover intention of the teaching and non-teaching personnel in private institutions. It aims to answer specific objectives such as the profile of the respondents, the turnover intention of the personnel, the difference between the level of the intention of academic and non-academic personnel. In this study, the researchers will be used the quantitative study. The questionnaire was used as a data-gathering instrument, to determine the turnover intentions of the personnel. The descriptive survey method will be used to gather the data and to know the status to help to address effectively the research objectives. Based on the result of the study, most of the non-teaching personnel have lower turnover intentions compared to the teaching personnel of the private institutions. The result also shows that the teaching personnel has higher turnover intentions than non-academic employees. It is recommended that human resource management and the top management of the private institution should develop an intervention in order to maintain the manpower in the organization

    Fractal Dimension Analysis of Pre-Board and Licensure Examination Results of Teacher Education Graduates

    This study aimed to analyze the Fractal Dimensions of pre-and licensure examination results of teacher education graduates of one State University in the Philippines to find the strengths and weaknesses for possible intervention programs. In this study, the descriptive-correlation method of research was utilized. Data of 2132 graduates were requested in the Office of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) through the consent of the University President. Triangulation of the result was done through unstructured interview to the dean and associate deans of the different campuses of College of Teacher Education in the State University. Fractal dimensions among the ten consecutive licensure examinations were utilized. Results of the study showed that fluctuations on the pre-licensure examination performance significantly influence the fluctuations on the actual licensure performance. Also it was found that the higher the diversity on the performance in the pre-licensure examination, the more compressed is the performance in the actual licensure examination.  Based on the result, it was recommended to study further the status of Licensure examination result of the universities and analyze possible predictors of fluctuations

    Self-Efficacy, Stressors and Performance of Mathematics Faculty of Selected SUCs in Region 1

    The study determined the levels of self-efficacy, stressors and performance of the Mathematics faculty of the selected State Universities and Colleges in Region I. These SUCs include, University of Northern Philippines, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University and Pangasinan State University. Specifically it sought to: determine the personal , job related and school-related characteristics of the respondents,   the level of self-efficacy of the respondents in terms of instructional strategies, classroom management and students’ engagement,  the level of stress of mathematics faculty in terms of classroom management, teacher-student relationship, relationship with colleagues and supervisors and teaching strategies/techniques, the performance of Mathematics faculty in the selected SUC’s in Region I, the degree of relationship between self- efficacy, stress levels of the respondents and their performance. The research made use of the descriptive method of research to determine the profile, self-efficacy and stress levels of tertiary Mathematics teachers in Region I. A survey was administered to all tertiary Mathematics teachers in selected schools in Region I. Results revealed that, generally, the faculty of the different State Colleges and universities in Region I have a very satisfactory performance based from their latest performance rating. Moreover, the self-efficacy of math faculty from the four SUCs in Region I is Very Satisfactory. The respondents portrayed highest level of efficacy on classroom management followed by efficacy for Instructional strategies then efficacy for student engagement. The math faculty in selected SUCs in Region I were moderately stressed. Particularly, the main reason of their stress lies on their relationship with their students.     Quality of Life and Stress as Correlate to Mental Health among Teachers: Basis for a Wellness Program

    The main purpose of the study is to determine the relationship between quality of life, stress, and mental health among teachers which will be used as a basis for a wellness program. Stratified random sampling was used as the sampling method among full-time private school teachers (n=181) in Malolos, Bulacan. The World Health Organization Quality of Life – BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), Teacher Stress Inventory (TSI) – Revised, and Mental Health Inventory (MHI) were employed as measures of the study. Results revealed that teachers have moderate satisfaction in terms of their physical health, psychological health, and environment. Moreover, high stress was observed with regards to their role and task area. Other findings showed that they have few occurrences of unfavorable symptoms in anxiety and general positive affect. In terms of relationships, significant negative correlations were observed between the domains of quality of life and mental health subscales ranging from r=-.173 to r=-.545. On the other hand, significant positive correlations were observed between the stress subscales and mental health subscales ranging from r=.147 to r=.405. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between quality of life and mental health of the respondents. In addition, there is a significant relationship between stress and mental health of the respondents. Based on the results, a proposed wellness program for the respondents was developed

    Portfolio-based Analysis and Competencies of Hospitality Management Students in Events Management: A Basis for Syllabus Enrichment

    Skill competence is the central ingredient of the market, and identifying its level prior immersion is a vital labor-oriented principle. This study aimed to identify the level of competence of Hospitality Management (HM) Students in PSU – Lingayen in Events Management in major indicators, namely, Company Profiling and Bidding Process. Using a mixed method of research by triangulating survey-questionnaire results with documentary content analysis, findings showed that the HM students are generally competent. However, areas of weakness which are considered as opportunities for improvement are found including the need to require students to write business legal documents like memoranda of understanding and agreement, among others. Recommendations to integrate the findings in existing TEC 109 Events Management Syllabi are advised in Course Outcomes 6 (Event Proposal), 7 (Communication letters), and 9 (On-site Event)

    Development And Acceptability of the Economy Board Game for Macroeconomics Learners of Pangasinan State University

    This study documented and determined the development of the Economy board game for Economics students of Pangasinan State University. The Economy Game is a detailed, challenging, and strategic expenditure trading game that is used as an instructional material in Macroeconomics course. The descriptive survey method was employed in this study to determine the level of acceptability of the developed game. The study\u27s respondents were 42 second-year students enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts in Economics program at Pangasinan State University. These students were oriented on the objective and mechanics of the game  and eventually They were able played the board game for several sessions. Based on the results, students demonstrated positive responses to all dimensions in terms of perceived usefulness, the convenience of use, attitude toward usage, and intention to use, supported by an overall weighted mean of 4.56, descriptively rated as very highly acceptable. This suggests that the respondents involved appreciated the game and its content, purpose, and use

    On Derivational Morphemes: Grammatical Competence of College Students

    Morphology is one of the several branches of linguistics that can help students highlight particular words and decode them. Teachers or lecturers should implement and develop a variety of strategies and instruction to promote students\u27 grammatical competence so that students comprehend the importance of morphological roles in teaching-learning English. This study aimed to determine the grammatical competence of college students. Specifically, it sought to answer the level of grammatical competence of 93 Education English major students of Pangasinan State University (PSU) on derivational morphemes and difference in the respondents’ grammatical competence when categorized in terms of demographic characteristics such as type of senior high school last attended and preferred reading materials in English. The descriptive survey method was utilized as the research described and attempted to interpret the level of grammatical competence on derivational morphemes of Education English major students and how the grammatical competence of the respondents differs when categorized in terms of the aforementioned demographic characteristics. Survey and written test questionnaires were used as instruments of this study. Findings revealed that majority of the college students were found to have high grammatical competence on derivational morphemes. Instrumental to this are the demographic characteristics such as type of senior high school last attended and most preferred reading materials in English which affected grammatical competence. Thus, grammatical competence on derivational morphemes would mean proficiency in word formation processes and its underlying complexities

    The Effects of English-Only Policy in The Workplace of English as a Second Language (Esl) Teachers in The Municipality of Bugallon

    This study is aimed to determine the effects of English-Only Policy (EOP) in the workplace of ESL teachers in the Municipality of Bugallon. This study sought to answer the following: 1) What is the demographic profile of the ESL teachers in Municipality of Bugallon in terms of a) Age; b) Gender; c) Length of Employment; d) Degree Course; e) Native Language/Mother Tongue; 2) How is English-Only Policy implemented in the ESL company; 3) How does the English-Only Policy affect the ESL teachers in the Municipality of Bugallon in terms of a) Daily Conversation; b) Self Improvement; and c) Career Improvement; 4) Is there a significant relationship between  the ESL teacher’s profile and the effect of English-Only Policy among the teachers in the Municipality of Bugallon. Descriptive method was used in the study. The respondents of the study have a total number of thirty (30), which is 35 percent of the total population of ESL Teachers in the Municipality of Bugallon.Respondents with the age bracket of twenty-three to twenty-four years old, got the highest frequency of 12 with a percentage of 40. In terms of gender, female got the highest frequency of 28 with 93.3 percent. For length of employment, respondents ranging 13 months to 24 months, got the highest frequency of 12 with a percentage of 40. As per the degree course, Bachelor of Secondary Education got the highest percentage of 46.7 and a frequency of 14. Lastly, for the respondent’s native language/mother tongue, Pangasinan got the highest frequency of 15 with a percentage of 50. On the implementation of English-Only Policy in ESL company, out of 30 respondents, mandatory implementation of English-Only Policy got the highest frequency of 27 (90%). On the effects of English-Only Policy in ESL Teachers, in terms of daily conversation, 100 percent of the respondents agreed that EOP helps them gain ability to communicate effectively. 26 respondents with a percentage of 86.7 disagreed because of EOP, they tend to forget some words from their native tongue while 19 of them with 63.6 agreed that they unintentionally correct the grammar of the person with whom they are conversing, and often referred to as “conyo” because they often used a mixture of English and Filipino while communicating. On one hand, 27 of the respondents with a percentage of 90, agreed that they became more comfortable conversing with others.In terms of self-improvement, 29 of the respondents with a percentage of 96.7 agreed that EOP improves their speaking and communication skills. With a frequency of 27 and a percentage of 90 also agreed that EOP helps to see things from a different perspective and get a deeper understanding of another culture.  Moreover, 100 percent of the respondents agreed that EOP became beneficial in terms of having a better comprehension on how language works and how it is used, helped them became fluent in English because of being immersed in the said language and all of the respondents also agreed that EOP helps them to improve in expressing themselves in English language. Lastly, in terms of career improvement, 28 of the respondents with a percentage of 93.3 agreed that working in an English-speaking environment provides advancement for better jobs in the future while 28 of them with 93.3 percent also agreed that EOP offers a wide range of employment opportunities in global scale. As per the higher chance of getting fast track promotion, 22 of the respondents with 73.3 percent agreed while 100 percent agreed that EOP allows them to communicate effectively with international clients, helping them to trust them and the company resulting in strong and lasting business relationships. Moreover, 26 of the respondents with a percentage of 86.7 agreed that mastering the English-speaking skill in a workplace enhances skill-set and command a high salary. According to the result of findings, there is a significant relationship between the effect of English-Only Policy among ESL teachers in the municipality of Bugallon according to their native language

    Capability of Junior ABEL Students in Using Parallelism in Sentences

    This study aimed to determine the level of capability of 43 ABEL students in using parallelism in sentences. The level of capability in using parallelism in sentences was measured by an instrument which was lifted from electronic sources. Descriptive method was used in this study. The respondents were selected through complete enumeration. Findings revealed that majority of the respondents’ capability in using parallelism in sentences was high. The results also revealed that there was a weak influence of the type of secondary school graduated from on the capability of the respondents in using parallelism in sentences. However, the most preferred language for communication, most preferred English reading material and grade in Structure of the English Language were moderately related to the level of capability of the respondents in using parallelism in sentences

    Six years of MTB MLE: Revisiting Teachers’ Language Attitude towards the Teaching of Chavacano

    To gauge the success of the mother tongue-based multilingual education (MTB-MLE) in the Philippines is tantamount to examining it in a milieu where its citizens speak a number of languages. Zamboanga City is credibly one of the cities in the country identified to be multilingual where its people speak more or less eight (8) languages, namely: Chavacano, Cebuano-Bisaya, Tausug, Sama, Yakan, Tagalog, Subanen, and Hiligaynon. This study surveys the MTB-MLE program in its sixth year of implementation. Specifically, it attempted to determine the general language attitude of the teacher-respondents in using Chavacano as a language of instruction, and the difficulties they face in the classroom using the mother tongue. The data were gathered through qualitative descriptive method using survey questionnaire and interview questions. Specifically, to identify the challenges encountered by teachers using the mother tongue for instructions, the data were taken predominantly from interviews using semi-structure interview protocol. The data were analyzed employing qualitative content analysis that could be described as a research approach used for ‘the subjective interpretation of the content of text data. The respondents all come from one big public primary school i.e. Don Gregorio Elementary Memorial School (DONGEMS), which is located at the heart of Zamboanga City where the implementation of MTB-MLE was seen to be much difficult because there are eight prevailing languages used by the people within the area. The findings revealed that teachers generally have negative attitude towards the use of Chavacano as language of instruction. Moreover, the respondents maintained that the problems in the initial implementation of the MTB-MLE policy have remained consistent with the difficulties they face at present. Specifically, these are the inadequate books/references written in mother tongue, lack or deficiency in vocabulary, and insufficient teacher training.   Keywords: MTB-MLE, Language of Instruction, Language Attitude, Ethnicit
