Effects of Subjective Norms and Security on Online Banking Adoption: Multilevel Linear Model Analysis
Robust macroeconomic performance is essential for an economic growth and development alongside challenging technology advancements. Within the service sector of the economy, one of the broadly studied areas of technological transformation is the retail financial services which includes consumer banking activities. Online banking enables customers to experience in a vast array of financial services through e-banking websites. Nevertheless, in practice; this phenomenon varies depending on the particular context. Hence, this research addresses the significance of subjective norms and security of e-services towards adoption of consumer online banking in the specified context. Sample was drawn from the students of the Kelaniya University those who are participating for the week-end study programs. The students of the doctor of business administration attached to the university were designated as enumerators of the data collection process. Data collection has been executed by way of self-administered questionnaires which were completed by the respective respondents. Initially 400 questionnaires were distributed and 287 duly completed questionnaires were considered for the final data analysis. TAM has been extended using the subjective norms and security of e-services variables and dimensions of the variables were measured by five-point Lickert scale. Reliability analysis was conducted to measure internal consistencies using Cronbach’s alpha. In order to test the hypotheses anova, ancova and multilevel linear model used. The empirical evidence supported three hypotheses indicating the significance of the variables/constructs on adoption of online banking. In conclusion, researcher has presented several suggestions related to future researches on online banking adoption field
Seminarians’ Satisfaction on the Services of Mary Help of Christians Seminary System
This study determined the level of satisfaction of the seminarians. The specific objectives include the determination of the (1) profile of the seminarians in terms of their age, monthly family income and grade/year level; (2) reasons of entering the seminary; (3) the level of satisfaction of the seminarians to the academic and academic support services in terms of intellectual, human, spiritual, socio-pastoral formations and administrative services. It employed multimethod research design. The Seminarian’s Satisfaction Questionnaire was administered among 89 seminarians. The present study was conducted at Mary Help of Christians (MHC) Seminary System composed of MHC High School Seminary, MHC College Seminary and MHC Theology Seminary. Findings showed that majority of the respondents are adolescents, from High School Seminary and from family of average-income earners. The respondents in general entered the seminary to heed God’s call to service and for one’s personal growth and development. Other people also played a significant role as the seminarians found a good degree of inspiration and motivation from them. They expressed moderately satisfaction with the academic and academic support services provided by the seminary system. Consequently, services under spiritual formation obtained the highest score denoting strong satisfaction. More, age and grade/year level have significant correlation to the level of satisfaction on the seminary services along intellectual, human and socio-pastoral formations and administrative services. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that Mary Help of Christians Seminary system may utilize this study as a basis in the creation of the Five-Year Development Plan towards the improvement of delivery of the academic and academic support services. Semestral satisfaction survey by the seminarians regarding the quality of the services provided is also paramount
The Acceptability of An Android-Based Rice Black Bug Monitoring System using an Electronic Drone with an Arduino-Based Light Trap
This study aimed to measure the acceptability of an Android-based Rice Black Bug Monitoring System which monitor Rice Black Bugs Bug (Scotinophara coarctata (Fabricius)), locally known as “Itim na Atangya.”, by utilizing an electronic drone with a light trap underneath that records the coordinates and weights of trapped insects. The electronic drone is installed with a high intensity low-energy light-emitting diode (LED) panel or LED-based “black light” to attract rice black bugs which have been reported recently to attack rice crops in southern Luzon. The insect trap is equipped with a weight sensor to monitor the weight of the trapped insects which is used to measure the insect volume. The weight sensor is connected via an Arduino microcontroller board with a built-in WiFi module that connects to a nearby WiFi connection with Internet access to transmit sensed data and GPS coordinates in the online cloud database which can be accessed via a web browser-based application or via the developed Android app for Android-based mobile devices. Through a User Acceptance Test (UAT), the study showed that the designs of both the light trap and the monitoring system have a 3.84 out of 4.0 acceptability rating after evaluated by selected I.T. experts and randomly selected local rice farmers of the Municipality of Catanauan, Quezon where the system was tested, indicating the system has an acceptable quality as a software product and is indicative of readiness for deployment and implementation
Transitions of Motherhood among First Time Late Mothers: A Qualitative Investigation
Abstract - This study explored on the experiences of first time late mothers as they go through the transition of motherhood for the first time. Research has shown that more and more women delay childbirth into their mid and late thirties and this brings forth as well the onset of late and off-time transition of motherhood among women. Despite the awareness of biological constraints and risks involved in late childbearing, the phenomenon continues to be observed among women these days. It is the aim of this study to provide a qualitative description of the experiences of first time late mothers. This involved 10 interview accounts of first time late mothers following a descriptive-qualitative design. Results revealed the following themes: Motherhood brings pleasant and positive affect; There are reproductive and maternal health concerns; There are adjustments to work and family life; Aging and medical issues are surfaced; Developed sense of self-care; Development of intensive mothering qualities; Experiences of Psychological Changes to Self; Focus on the “Here & Now”; There are protective & supportive factors for Coping and lastly; Reflections on Decisions of Transitioning into Motherhood. Discussion and implications are provided
Materials, Functions and Weaving Patterns of Philippine Indigenous Baskets
Baskets serve as a national icon for Filipinos signifying agricultural and cultural relevance. It has been used as containers and traditional bags of the Filipino farmers for its products or a status symbol of the women amongst different indigenous groups. This paper discusses and analyses different materials, functions, weaving patterns and cultural relevance of the different baskets in the Philippines. Further, this paper presents a comparative analysis on the forms, style, usage and economic relevance of the different indigenous baskets. It is noteworthy that these baskets transcend cultural identity and information among indigenous Filipinos. The common raw materials used in making baskets are rattan, abaca, nito, tikog, buri, bamboo, pandan, coconut leaves and sticks, palm leaves, and beeswax. There are several baskets that use combined raw materials. The usage and function of the baskets depends on the form, style and the raw materials used as well as the indigenous group on which it originates. The several functions can be clustered into carrying agricultural products, storage, ritual use, food and paraphernalia containers, and auxiliary household functions. The weaving patterns depend to the raw materials used, design and style of the indigenous groups and function of the basket. The common weaving patterns utilized were checker weave, twill weave, wicker weave, twine weave and coiled weaves
Socioscientific Perspectives on ‘Fake News’ in the Era of Social Media among Generation Z Filipinos
Abstract – In the era of the society where the platform of connectivity and sharing of information is the social media, perspectives on authentic information, digitized rumor spreading, misinformation and disinformation becomes more alarming, relevant and relative. This exploratory research design elicited an understanding of the socioscientific perspectives among the generation Z Filipino students about fake news proliferating in the social media. There were thirty – eight (n=38) freshmen college students from a private university in Metro Manila who participated. This study used an open access technology on word cloud, open – ended questionnaire and focus group discussions to gather the data and qualitatively analyzed using coded scheme. The results showed that sources of information, purpose, relevance of the article, accuracy, precision, intended receiver, social media user engagement and user characteristics were assumed to be the factors in their metrics for determining fake news. From the focus group discussion and on the participants’ answers on the open – ended questionnaire, there were 7 coded themes on their perspectives on fake news. An ontological quadrants showing the participants’ socio scientific perspective were drawn. Majority of the participants also agrees that social media becomes an instrument of lies, deception and rumors. Further, it can be noted in the results that the participants have personal metrics in determining fake news. Lastly, this study provides a deeper understanding from the different literature in neuroscience on the neural development of adolescents, cognitive control and their developmental sensitivities to social media use.  
An Ethnography: Understanding of Tau’t Bato’s Cultural Heritage
In the valley at the Singnapan Basin, dwelling in the caves is the tribe known as Tau’t Bato. Their existence is not a hoax. Their presence is but a singular event that manifests the richness of the culture of the Philippine archipelago. Located amidst a changing world this tribe of indigenous people clings fast slowly disappearing land. Evolution is inevitable and with the transformations that happen in the modern world, choices to adapt and survive must be made. Choices that sooner or later would bury the wealth of their culture and tradition will be, but memories chronicled through literature and photographs. The study acknowledges the diverse culture and tradition of the Tau’t Bato tribe who are considered as national archeological treasures since the early 1900s. Using the available written literatures and photographs captured by Pierre de Vallombreuse, the study focused on the unique practices performed and observed by these people. The status of as well as the conservation and protection of the tribe had also been taken into consideration. Based from the available sources of information, it seemed that the Tau’t Bato tribe is losing itself to the modern world and together with them, the culture and the tradition which made their tribe unique
Computer Aided Reading and Pronunciation Practice System for Elementary Level: Development and Usability
This paper examines the initial study on teachers perception on the usability of computer-aided reading and pronunciation practice system and system development for elementary level in a rural area. The sample of this study consists of twelve (12) teacher, who teaches in an elementary level in the southern part of Antique, Philippines. The usability and user satisfaction questionnaire, which was adapted from Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ), divided into seven categories namely design/layout, functionality, ease of use, learnability, satisfaction, outcome/future use and errors/system reliability was utilized. Correlates of Self-efficacy, Learning Style and Aptitude Across Strand of Senior High School students in San Jacinto National High School
This study aimed to correlate three variables, namely, self-efficacy of the students, learning styles of the students, and their aptitude test results in the 2015 National Career Assessment Examination to the Senior High School Program. The study employed quantitative-survey research. The survey questionnaire was validated and pilot-tested prior the administration. Aptitude test results in the NCAE were grouped into five (5) based on their percentile rank of each student (n=260) and were subjected to chi-square test of independence across the strand to determine significant relationship between the aptitude level and the strand they are enrolled in. Aptitude test results were taken from the individual NCAE result available. The enrolment profile showed that the Senior High School Population (n=260) was largely fifteen-to-sixteen-aged female students. Findings revealed that, as to the 2015 NCAE test results, those enrolled under STEM and ABM had an average aptitude while those enrolled under GAS, HUMSS, TVL-CHS TVL-FBS, TVL-Computer Programming and TVL Cookery registered a below average aptitude. Moreover, findings revealed a moderate confidence in their level of self-efficacy in terms of Enlisting Social Resources, Academic Achievement, Self-regulated learning, Self-regulatory efficacy, Meeting Others’ Expectations. Social Self-efficacy, and Enlisting Parental and Community Support. Further, findings reported means interpreted as ‘moderately agree’ when variables were grouped as to what learning style is dominating in each of the strand. As to the correlates, a significant relationship was found between the students’ strands and the level of their self-efficacy to all the parameters set for each learning style measured in the study. Further, a significant relationship was found in at least one parameter of the sensing-thinking, sensing-feeling, and intuitive-thinking learning styles, but none in intuitive-feeling learning style. More studies may be conducted along these parameters of significant and non-significant relationship to analyze findings that can be used for re-aligning students in the strand
Development of a Basic Electro-pneumatic Control Trainer
A basic electro-pneumatic control trainer provides the students’ learning experience and appreciation of the subject and course and for the professors’ demonstrations and evaluation of students’ performance during laboratory time. This study utilized a developmental type of research. The trainer board was a 24 inches by 24 inches by ¾ inch marine plywood. It was cost-effective, space-efficient and portable. It contained circuit breaker, plurality of din rails, plurality of terminal blocks, plurality of relays and relay holders, plurality of normality open and closed push buttons, plurality of utility box, plurality of base plates, plurality of 24VDC (Volt-Direct Current) 3/2 way solenoid valves, plurality of 24VDC indicator lights, tubes duct, plurality of double-acting cylinders, plurality of clamps, and plurality of 24VDC proximity sensors. All the devices were totally exposed for easy installation and familiarization. The plurality of input and output devices terminals were pre-wired into the terminal blocks for faster installation and cost-effective for trainers’ maintenance purposes. It was equipped with low current circuit breaker to facilitate safe operations and eliminate damages to all the devices considering the hard to find and the high cost of the electro-pneumatic control components. It was cable of handling an industrial-like electro-pneumatic control wiring installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning. The basic electro-pneumatic control trainer utilized 24VDC as a power supply for the electrical circuit and a 60psi (pounds per square inch) compressed air for pneumatic control as air supply and supported with the instructional module in basic electro-pneumatics. A basic electro-pneumatic control trainer was granted an Industrial Design (ID) patent by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines while still waiting for subsequent formality examination report as a pending application for a Utility Model (UM) patent by the same office
