Salt is an essential commodity for both domestic use and industrial applications, with East Java Province in Indonesia playing a crucial role in national salt production. Traditional salt production methods, primarily based on natural evaporation, face challenges due to seasonal factors, particularly during the rainy season. This study investigates the environmental conditions affecting the salt crystallization process in the Greenhouse Salt Tunnel (GST) technology. Field experiments were conducted at two sites, Tuban Regency on the North Coast and Malang Regency on the South Coast, where key parameters such as air temperature, water temperature, humidity, wind speed, and evaporation rates were monitored three times daily. The findings showed that water temperatures within the GST ranged from 31 to 38°C on the North Coast and 26 to 38°C on the South Coast. Wind speeds varied between 1.5–2.4 m/s on the North Coast and 0.4–1.0 m/s on the South Coast, while humidity levels ranged from 54 to 80%. The GST system achieved a salt production rate of 6.4 kg/m² with NaCl content exceeding 94%, a significant improvement over traditional methods, which yield less than 70% NaCl. These results demonstrate that GST technology enhances both the quality and quantity of salt production, though design modifications are needed to address the dynamic coastal environment.

Review of Relevant Literature About Critical Thinking Skills in a Science Perspective

    No full text
Critical Thinking (CR) is one of the most important thinking skills and is a widely recognized measure of the quality of student learning. The literature reviewed shows the importance of integrating critical thinking (CR) into curriculum content and teaching methods in a tiered manner. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, to map where CT is taught, which countries have research trends on CT, how to teach and assess CT, and the influence of technology on CT. Documents were analyzed comprehensively in the Scopus database for the 2018-2023 period. There are five stages of SLR research, namely determining keywords, searching for data, selecting documents, validating data, and analyzing data. Only documents in the form of articles published in the journals used were analyzed. The results of the study indicate that critical thinking skills must be taught and trained at the school level, both in elementary schools, secondary schools, and in certain courses. CT teaching is carried out by choosing the right model or strategy, for example using a modified inquiry model or STEM approach strategy. Assessment is carried out using instruments such as critical thinking skills tests or observation rubrics that have been standardized or modified to obtain accurate results

    No full text
: Improving catch data through the standardization of catch per unit effort (CPUE) is crucial in providing accurate information for fish stock assessments. This study aims to develop a CPUE standardization model for dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) in the Southern Java Waters. The analysis is based on historical dolphinfish catch data collected between 2019 and 2023. Bias in the CPUE data was reduced using the generalized additive model (GAM) approach. The results indicate that all explanatory variables significantly influence CPUE standardization. The combination of fishing duration, location, and period parameters proved effective in standardizing CPUE. The GAM-based standardization method successfully reduced variability in nominal CPUE, producing more consistent data. These results can provide an essential scientific basis for developing a sustainable management strategy for the Indian Ocean dolphinfish

    No full text
The limited laboratory equipment in many schools hinders students in conducting physics experiments, so that learning is more theoretical and less supportive of practice-based understanding. This study aims to develop a smartphone sensor-based physics experiment module on wave and optical materials that is valid, practical, and effective, and allows students to conduct experiments flexibly and independently. This research uses the Research and Development (R & D) method with the Borg & Gall model. Validation by media and material experts showed that this module has met the eligibility standards, with a score of 3.67 (73.4%) for media aspects and 3.56 (71.2%) for material aspects. The practicality test showed that this module can be used well in experimental learning, with a score of 3.48 (69.6%) in the “Good” category. Evaluation of effectiveness through comparison of pre-test and post-test showed an increase in learning outcomes with an N-gain of 0.55 (medium category). These results indicate that the integration of smartphone sensors in physics experiments can be an alternative solution for schools with limited laboratory facilities. This module offers a more flexible, accessible and technology-based learning approach. Future research can develop similar modules for other physics materials and evaluate their effectiveness in various learning scenarios
