The use of PhaseNet for Event Identification of Microearthquake Monitoring in Geothermal Field

Geothermal energy is a sustainable energy source that requires continuous microseismic monitoring to assess reservoir integrity and geomechanical behavior. Traditional phase identification methods are challenged by noisy environments and complex waveforms, especially in geothermal fields. This study explores the efficacy of PhaseNet, a deep learning neural network model, in detecting P and S wave arrival times for micro-earthquake events. The PhaseNet model was retrained using local seismic data from a geothermal field and tested for its performance in identifying seismic phases. The results were validated against a manual seismic catalog, with additional clustering and association analysis conducted using GaMMA and hypocenter locations determined with NonLinLoc. The findings demonstrate that PhaseNet, combined with GaMMA, provides robust phase detection capabilities, essential for early-stage monitoring in geothermal development

Analysis of the Effect of Tuyere Angle on Velocity and Temperature Distribution in a Blast Furnace Using Computational Fluid Dynamics Method

    No full text
This study aims to explore the impact of tuyere angle variation on velocity and temperature distribution in a blast furnace using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods. The tuyere angles analyzed in this research include 4°, 6°, 8°, and 10°. Understanding the resulting velocity and temperature distributions from these variations is crucial in metallurgical processes, as it directly affects thermal efficiency and the quality of the end product. Simulation results revealed that increasing the tuyere angle from 4° to 8° led to more stable and uniform airflow patterns, as well as optimal heat distribution. However, when the tuyere angle was further increased to 10°, there was a noticeable instability in airflow and temperature distribution, which resulted in a decrease in process efficiency. This indicates a direct correlation between the increase in tuyere angle and flow stability up to the optimal point at 8°, beyond which performance declines. The study concludes that an 8° tuyere angle is the most ideal for use in blast furnaces, as it provides the most efficient heat distribution and airflow

The Effect of Ammonium Sulfate Concentrations on The Size Distributions of NPK-Fertilizer Granules in a Rotating Drum Granulator

    No full text
The granulation process is important in pharmaceuticals, detergents, and fertilizers. It consists of enlarging the particle size to create granules with specific properties. This study examined the wet granulation process for NPK fertilizers and investigated the effect of binder solutions, particularly ammonium sulfate (ZA) concentrations, on the distribution of granule sizes. The granulation process was conducted in a rotating drum granulator with varied NPK ratios (28-6-6, 20-20-8, 18-16-20, and 15-15-15) with amounts of binder (10 ml or 20 ml of 15% ZA solution or pure water). Granule sizes were analyzed using Image Pro Plus software, and Stoke’s number was calculated to establish a correlation between the average granule radius and Stoke’s number. The results showed that ammonium sulfate improved granulation, leading to larger granule size and more consistent size distribution in various NPK formulations than water-bond granules. Furthermore, a higher liquid-to-solid ratio generally increases granule size, resulting in a broader size distribution. The study demonstrated a robust correlation (R² = 0.95) between Stoke\u27s number and the average granule radius, indicating that Stoke\u27s number served as a generalized parameter of the granulation process for various NPK formulations and binder types

Balance of Threat: Finland’s Responds to Potential Threat from Russia Post Russo-Ukrainian Conflict Escalation

Two abrupt geopolitical events happen between 2022 and 2023. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and Finland’s application for NATO membership later that year shocked the geopolitical situation in Europe. The potential threat Russia brought upon its closest neighbour, Finland, has resulted in the Balancing action by Finland. Finnish Paradox, the development of Russia’s military, and Moscow’s passive-aggressive history are a few factors that led to Finland’s response to Russia’s potential threat. Balance of Threat theory will be used to explain the potential threat to Finland from Russia and how it shapes Finland’s geopolitical decision. The research will surround the question of “How does Finland respond to the potential threat from Russia Post Russo-Ukrainian Conflict Escalation?” and the hypotheses of “Finland joins NATO in 2023 because it is taking a balancing action towards Russia due to the potential threat Russia poses against Finland”. Thus, this research will scrutinize why and how Finland responded to the Moscow-Kiev conflict escalation. Russia’s numerous options of military strength added to its past aggressive behaviour, total aggregate and offensive power, and proximity to Finland, are adequate to be considered a threat to Finland. Therefore, Finland’s balancing action towards Russia’s potential threat is valid

Framing Analysis of Media Coverage of Papuan Riots on SKH Kompas and Tirto.id in 2019

The study examines the media\u27s framing of the Papuan riots, with a focus on protests against racial discrimination. It highlights how stereotypes like "lazy" and "separatist" exacerbate social tensions for Papuans, particularly in urban areas. Triggered by a racially charged incident in Surabaya, these riots led to significant protests in Papua and West Papua, receiving national media coverage. Through qualitative analysis of news from SKH Kompas and Tirto.id, the research shows selective framing, often emphasizing violence and commodifying racial tensions, which perpetuates discrimination. The study advocates for the reevaluation of media narratives to improve the representation of marginalized groups and promote dialogue and reconciliation
