A Study on Promoting the Mechanism of the Rule of Thumb from the Perspective of the Smart Court in China
This paper manifested the ought functions of the rule of thumb, and analyzed the causes of the practical dilemma of applying it, such as the absence of the explanation function, two extremes in the application of the rule of thumb, the outdated doctrine of proof, the difficulty of systematization and so on. This paper gave a suggestion that the application of the rule of thumb should be promoted by three dimensions as following: (1) procedural dimensions promoting the use of the rule of thumb- doctrine of proof and procedural justice; (2) technical dimension promoting the use of the rule of thumb- application of artificial intelligence; and(3) physical dimension promoting the use of the rule of thumb- case guidance system. Against the background of the construction of "Smart court" and the reform of "trial priority", efforts must be made to overcome shortcomings in the application of the rule of thumb like inappropriate systematization and difficult to capture and evaluate, and give full play to the roles of the rule of thumb in identifying evidence, ascertaining the fact, and applying the law
Revisiting the Nexus Between Financial Development, Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth of Bangladesh: Evidence from Symmetric and Asymmetric Investigation
We revisit the nexus between foreign direct investment, financial development, and economic growth of Bangladesh over the 1975-2017 period. By apply Autoregressive distributed lagged (ARDL) advance by Pesaran et al. (2001a) and nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lagged (NARDL) initiated by Shin et al. (2014). We also investigate directional causality by employing asymmetry casualty test proposed by Hatemi-j (2012). ARDL bound testing approach confirms the long-run association between economic growth and selected macroeconomic variables. We also observed the nonlinear effects, in the long run, running from financial development, FDI, trade openness, inflation to economic growth. Meanwhile, the results of asymmetry causality confirmed unidirectional causality between positive shocks in financial development and positive shock in economic growth, positive shocks in economic growth and positive shocks in FDI. Furthermore, symmetry causality test confirms bidirectional causality between financial development and economic growth and unidirectional causality running from FDI and inflation to economic growth
Improvement of Effectiveness of Village Fund Policy in Indonesia
After the legalization of the Village Law, the amount of funds flowing into villages is geting higher and higher. Every year it continues to increase. In 2015 the amount reached Rp. 20.8 trillion, and in 2016 it was Rp. 46.96 trillion, and now it raised to Rp. 60 trillion, and in 2018 it would be increased to Rp 120 trillion. The greater authority of the village government to manage the finances and resources is not balanced with the controls in the use of the budget. Automatically, it results in the arising of some problems. Supervision and monitoring are very important things to do so that earlier detection can be carried out if there are some irregularities, dissipations, misappropriations, obstacles, and mistakes in the use of funds, also failures to achieve the goals and objectives. They are done in stages involving various stakeholders such as the community, the regional government, the ministries, Audit Board, and the Corruption Eradication Commission; House of Representaties or Parliament, Regional People’s Representative Assembly, and Village Consultative Body (BPD) (Regional Planning Agency) politically have a function of supervision of the village officials in managing the village funds. It can be started from empowering the local communities to participate in the management of the village funds to reporting the implementation of the planning of the programs. Involving the local people is highly expected that the village funds are used as optimally as possible based on the interests and needs of the local community
A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Inquiry: Probing Challenges and Prospects of Left-behind Children Education in the Northern Shaanxi Province, China
This research presents the lived experience of left-behind children living in the northern Shaanxi province, China. Herein hermeneutic phenomenological inquiry is employed to identify the main challenges faced by those left-behind children who are in the primary school stage and underlying causes. Unstructured observations in classroom and recess sessions are conducted. Ten left-behind children in the age range from 9-13 years, their guardians, and teachers in two towns are interviewed. The findings report the personal feelings and experiences of these children, including academic skills, socializing abilities, life, and psychological stress. Recommendations for policy and practice are offered. Arguably, the findings in the study might not only potentially serve as viable targets for universal preventive interventions and socially inclusive education of the group but also facilitate a more supportive and inclusive life and educational process for similarly marginalized groups outside China
Inclusion of Home Economics Industrial Subjects in the Curriculum of Masvingo High Schools, Zimbabwe
The aim of this study was to find out the inclusion levels of Home Economics industrial subjects in the curriculum of Masvingo high schools, Zimbabwe. This inquiry employed a descriptive survey design so as to establish the inclusion levels of the industrial subjects. A sample of forty-two participants was conveniently sampled from six high schools which were also conveniently selected from fifteen high schools in Masvingo. In-depth interviews and open-ended questionnaires were used as instruments to collect data from the school heads, Home Economics teachers and school pupils studying Home Economics subjects, respectively. Data were presented in narrative form and analysed around the research questions. The findings from this present study revealed that only six schools out of the fifteen high schools in the district are offering industrial subjects. The study established that three government schools and one mission school offered the subjects because they were chosen as pilot schools. This may imply that there is very little which is happening as far as the inclusion levels of the very important industrial subjects. The study also revealed that the major factors inhibiting the implementation of the policy to include industrial subjects in high schools were lack of resources, knowledge and information about the importance of the vocational subjects. The study therefore recommends that there is need for all stakeholders to put concerted efforts and finance the Home Economics subjects in order to improve on the implementation levels. School heads and or school administrators should be conscientised by the curriculum implementation section of the Ministry of Education on the importance of industrial subjects
Literature Review on Intercultural Sensitivity
This study is to make a literature review on the research of ICS from the following perspectives, including the definition of ICS, main tools of assessing ICS, and research of ICS home and abroad. By analyzing the related literature, the author reaches conclusions as follows: 1) ICS is the attitudinal and emotional aspect of ICC, which should be researched dynamically. 2) Chen and Starosta's ISS is the most frequently-used tool (IDI sometimes) while conducting the ICS research. 3) Most of the studies use quantitative method to analyze the data, and it is rare to combine quantitative and qualitative methods together. 4) Diverse types of subjects are researched in the studies
Elders' Perception of Rental Housing Quality While Ageing-in-Place in Core Residential Areas of Abeokuta, Nigeria
The study focused on elders' perception of rental housing quality while ageing-in-place in core residential areas of Abeokuta, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted in selecting 92 elderly in the core residential areas of Abeokuta. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study showed that quality of housing elements, facilities and infrastructure that elders live in as they continue to age-in-place (floors, bathrooms, windows, ceilings, roof, power supply, sewage management, drainage condition and refuse management) as rated by the elders were not in good condition. The result from the study also established that elders were averagely satisfied with the available infrastructure. The study recommended that house owners should rehabilitate and renovate some housing elements in order to improve quality of life and well-being as elders continue to age-in-place in the environment. Government also should assist to improve the condition of the infrastructure identified in the study area that was not satisfied with by the elders
Modeling the Dynamics of Sectoral TFP Growth in Ethiopia: Explaining Persistent Economic Debacles
This paper provides a rigorous analysis for modeling the dynamics of sectoral total factor productivity growth in Ethiopia over the period 1970 - 2010. It also attempts to estimate total factor productivity growth rate for agriculture, industry and service sector using sectoral growth accounting approach, and then examines determinants that affect sectoral productivity by employing a vector autoregressive model that incorporates exogenous variables. The study then finds that sectoral economic growth largely depends on factor accumulation instead of factor productivity. As a result of this, labour becomes the dominant source of agricultural growth while capital deepening explains the immense source of growth in industry and services over the reference period, regardless of the various political economy regimes. Total factor productivity growth, however, is negative on average across economic sectors and heavily reflects the lack of efficiency and technological change that bottlenecked economic growth. The study also finds that economy openness, imported capital goods, and service liberalization are statistically significant variable and positively influence the sectoral total factor productivity growth in agriculture, industry and service sector respectively. The study therefore recommends that the government focuses on widening economy openness in order to driving up agricultural total factor productivity, and pays more attention to importation of strategic technologies and reduces trade and service barriers associated with in order to foster industrial and service total factor productivity respectively
The Theatre of the Absurd

Using the UTAUT Model to Determine Factors Affecting Acceptance and Use of Mobile Health (mHealth) Services in Bangladesh
mHealth is one of the most promising technologies that has emerged in recent years and could prove to have considerable value to both health services providers and patients for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). But, the adoption of mHealth faces many challenges and barriers, including cultural, technological, personal, organizational and social issues which must be addressed and treated carefully by mHealth services providers. The aim of this study is to identify the critical factors affecting the adoption of mHealth in healthcare system of Bangladesh by extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model to include perceived reliability and price value. A cross sectional survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 296 participants from different public and private hospitals in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. Result demonstrates that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition & perceived reliability had significant influence on the intention to adopt mHealth services in Bangladesh. Surprisingly, price value (p>0.05) had no significant influence on adoption of mHealth services. With the proposed model, it is possible to develop better mHealth services to meet the requirements of the common people based on widely available smartphone. The findings of this study will be beneficial for the government agencies, mobile phone operators, policy makers, healthcare providers and NGOs in developing countries
