Predicting Financial Distress through Financial Ratios: The Mediating Effect of Profitability

    Get PDF
This study examines the determinants of financial distress in construction companies during the period of escalating financial pressures from Q1 2021 to Q2 2025, focusing on the influence of the CR, DAR, and company size on financial distress, with ROA serving as an intervening variable representing profitability. A quantitative approach was applied using panel data from six construction firms publicly traded on the IDX, selected through purposive sampling. Panel data regression is used to test direct effects, and the Sobel method is applied to assess the mediating impact of ROA. The study results indicate that, individually, CR, DAR, and company size have an influence on ROA but are not significant. However, they collectively exhibit a significant impact when tested simultaneously. In the context of financial distress, the empirical results reveal that CR and company size positively and significantly impact financial distress. At the same time, DAR has a significant negative impact, and ROA also shows a positive and meaningful impact. Collectively, CR, DAR, company size, and ROA significantly affect the degree of financial distress. Such outcomes indicate that management must comprehensively monitor liquidity, leverage, firm size, and profitability to anticipate and minimize financial distress risksThis study examines the determinants of financial distress in construction companies during the period of escalating financial pressures from Q1 2021 to Q2 2025, focusing on the influence of the CR, DAR, and company size on financial distress, with ROA serving as an intervening variable representing profitability. Low back pain (LBP) is a leading cause of global disability, significantly impacting work productivity. Known risk factors include age and obesity. However, while Body Mass Index (BMI) is a common indicator of obesity, BMI provides limited insight into true body composition. This study used Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to provide a more precise measurement of fat mass and to analyze its correlation with LBP, along with age and BMI, among employees at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) General Hospital. The study used a cross-sectional design involving 112 hospital employees. Age was collected through a questionnaire. Fat mass was measured using the Tanita BC-418, and LBP was assessed using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, which distinguishes between complaints and disabilities. Statistical analysis used the Kruskal-Wallis test for correlations involving LBP complaints (age and fat mass) and the Spearman correlation test for correlations involving LBP disabilities (age and BMI). This study found no statistically significant correlations between the analyzed variables and LBP complaints or disabilities. Spearman's correlation test showed a weak, insignificant relationship between age and LBP disability (r=0.141; p=0.130) and between BMI and LBP disability (r=0.148; p=0.116). Similarly, the Kruskal-Wallis test did not show a significant correlation between age and LBP complaints (p=0.299) or between fat mass and LBP complaints (p=0.564). Conclusion: Age, fat mass, and BMI were not found to be significant predictors of LBP complaints or disability in this specific hospital employee population. These findings suggest that occupational or ergonomic factors may play a more dominant role in the etiology of LBP in hospital staff than anthropometric parameters alone.

Efficiency is used as an indicator of hospital performance, including the overall performance of hospital health services. The effectiveness of services related to hospital bed management is assessed using the metrics Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR), Average Length of Stay (ALOS), Turnover Interval (TOI), and Bed Turnover (BTO) on the Barachman-Johnson graph. The construction of a new building resulted in an increase in the number of patients and beds from 2022 to 2023, according to medical record data from the Islamic Hospital (RSI) Surabaya inpatient ward. The availability of community services may be affected by changes in bed availability. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of inpatient services at RSI Surabaya in 2022–2023 using bed utilization indicators (BOR, ALOS, TOI, and BTO) and the Barber–Johnson graphical approach. This study used an observational analytical design with a quantitative approach. Descriptive and comparative analyses were conducted to evaluate inpatient bed management indicators (BOR, ALOS, TOI, and BTO) at RSI Surabaya in 2022–2023 using the Barber–Johnson method, based on aggregate secondary hospital data.  The RSI Surabaya inpatient ward's Barber Johnson graph for 2022 and 2023 shows that the BOR value has decreased, the ALOS is low, the TOI has reached an optimal value, and the BTO is high. The Barber Johnson efficiency area is not where the four parameter points are located. In conclusion, inpatient bed utilization at RSI Surabaya in 2022 and 2023 did not achieve optimal performance.Latar Belakang: Efisiensi digunakan sebagai indikator untuk mengukur kinerja rumah sakit, yang mencakup seluruh kinerja pelayanan kesehatan di rumah sakit. Diarrhea is the third leading cause of death in children under five, causing nutritional deficits that hinder growth, cognitive, and academic performance. Each episode before the age of 2 years increases the risk of stunting by 5%. Systematic data, such as sociodemographic, clinical characteristics, and laboratory characteristics, are important for prevention. This descriptive observational study used a retrospective design based on medical records of children with acute diarrhea treated at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, from 2021 to 2023. A total of 461 subjects met the criteria; 429 underwent electrolyte imbalance testing, 198 were assessed for urea and creatinine levels, and 68 had their acid-base balance evaluated. A total of 288 subjects (62.5%) were male children; 262 patients (75%) were 0-12 months old; 253 (61%) had good nutritional status; 339 (73.5%) underwent therapy for less than 1 week; and 402 patients (65%) recovered. A total of 40% experienced mild-moderate and severe dehydration with neurologic (16.4%) and respiration comorbidities (16.2%). Electrolyte disturbances included hyponatremia (33.1%), hypokalemia (12.1%), hyperchloremia (50.2%), increased urea (28.3%), abnormal creatinine (35.4%), hypobicarbonate (75%), and acidosis (63.2%). Therefore, early detection and appropriate management are essential to mitigate further complications and improve recovery outcomes

High morbidity rate among mothers and children remains a significant issue requiring special attention. Nanny care is a professional caregiving service provided by trained individuals to care for children in the household. This research adopted a quantitative analytical design utilizing a cross-sectional methodology. The study population comprised all individuals who accessed maternal and child health services at a designated Mother and Child Hospital in the Surabaya region. A total of 50 respondents were selected through probability sampling employing a simple random technique. Data were collected using a modified version of the Family Needs Questionnaire. The sample specifically included mothers receiving antenatal and postnatal care services. Analytical procedures included frequency distributions and correlation analyses to examine the relationship between perceived care needs and the demand for nanny care services, employing the chi-square test with α = 0.05. There was a significant relationship between maternal and child care needs and the availability of support in nanny care services (p = 0.04, α = 0.05). In conclusion, Digital nanny services can be integrated into Maternal and Child Health (MCH) systems by connecting real-time monitoring, health education, and personalized support for mothers and children. This integration enhances early detection of health issues, improves care coordination, and supports data-driven decision-making within MCH programs

Preventive Health Behaviors Associated with Recurrent Acute Respiratory Infections: A Case-Based Epidemiological Study

    Get PDF
Recurrent acute respiratory infections (ARI) in adults continue to pose a significant public health burden, particularly in communities where adherence to preventive behaviors is inconsistent. This study aimed to examine the association between preventive health behaviors and recurrent ARI using a case-based epidemiological approach. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted among 106 adults diagnosed with ARI, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire adapted from PHBS indicators assessing hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, mask use during illness, smoking inside the home, physical distancing when symptomatic, and healthcare-seeking practices. Recurrent ARI was defined as three or more episodes within the previous 12 months, and associations were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Several preventive behaviors, including inadequate hand hygiene, poor respiratory etiquette, limited mask use, and delayed medical consultation, showed significant relationships with recurrent ARI, with inconsistent behaviors markedly elevating recurrence risk. These findings suggest that strengthening behavior-focused health education in primary care, particularly hygiene promotion, responsible respiratory practices, mask use during illness, and timely care-seeking, may help reduce recurrent ARI among adults.

This behavior not only burdens students' financial condition, but also worsens their ability to manage their daily finances. The study also found that FoMO can motivate self-development, career opportunity creation, and creativity, provided that students are able to manage its impact wisely. Therefore, good financial literacy is key in reducing the negative impact of FoMO and achieving a balance between following trends and healthy financial management

Safeguarding Village Neutrality: A Legal Analysis of the Prohibition on Village Heads Joining Political Parties Post-Constitutional Court Decision 76/PUU-XXI/2023

    Get PDF
The prohibition of village heads from joining political parties under Constitutional Court Decision No. 76/PUU-XXI/2023 sparks debate regarding political rights within village autonomy. This research aims to analyze the alignment of the decision's legal considerations within the Indonesian legal system and identify implementation challenges stemming from the extensive authority of village heads. The research method used is socio-legal. The results show that the judges' considerations in Decision No. 76/PUU-XXI/2023 are aligned with the hierarchy of laws and regulations, positioning the village head as a government administrator mandatory to maintain neutrality for impartial public service. However, implementing this decision faces significant challenges because village heads hold centralized power (executive and budget management) and are products of political elections (Pilkades) often tied to local interests. Such vast authority is prone to misuse for practical political purposes through mass mobilization. Therefore, the effectiveness of this prohibition cannot rely solely on legal norms; it requires strengthening village leadership ethics and strict supervision to ensure village authority does not become an instrument for specific political parties
