Exploring The Causes of Stress and Associated Coping Strategies Among Early Childhood Educators in Nigeria: A Structural Equation Model
Early childhood educators are particularly confronted with a high level of stress due to the diverse learning needs and peculiarities of children from birth to five years of age. The aim of this study, therefore, was to explore the causes of stress and associated coping strategies among early childhood educators in Nigeria using structural equation modelling. The authors adopted an ex-post-facto research design involving 400 Early Childhood Educators who participated in the study. Two instruments, titled Early Childhood Educators’ Work-Related Stress Questionnaire (ECEWRSQ), and Questionnaire on Cause of Stress and Coping Strategies Among Early Childhood Educators (QCSCSAECE), were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS computer-based statistical software. Results showed that the hypothesized causal model that describes early childhood educators’ stress, causes, and associated coping strategies was significantly supported by the empirical data. It was also revealed that direct action technique, problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies have significant (p < 0.05) direct effects on the causes of stress among early childhood educators. The implication of this finding is that early childhood educators need to adopt such strategies in order to deal with some of the causes of stress among them. Hence, it was recommended that early childhood educators should employ direct action techniques, and problem-focused as well as emotion-focused coping strategies in order to overcome their work-related stress.
Necrophilia is Concealed But Not An Uncommon Sexual Deviation: Contributing Factors and The Way Forward Among Selected Mortuary Workers
Across the world, evidence is emerging that sexual deviations are common across so many societies. The study investigated necrophilia as a concealed but not an uncommon sexual deviation; contributing factors and the way forward among selected mortuary workers. This qualitative study used interpretive phenomenological design. Data were collected from ten (10) mortuary workers who both worked at privately and government/publicly owned morgues in Kwara-State, Nigeria. Participants were judgmentally selected for the purpose of this study by revealing their lived experiences. A semi-structured interview was used as a data collection method. Data analysis was done through content analysis technique. This study showed mental stress, substance use, avoidance of responsibilities and ritualism were the chief contributory factors to necrophilia. Among other recommendations, constant programmes that will cater for the mental health of mortuary workers should be enforced.
Bullying Against Adolescents; An Anticipation Through Islamic Parenting Style In The Post Covid Era
This study aims not only to reveal the phenomenon of bullying that occurs in educational community in the millennial era who are familiar with social media, but also to provide an information on anticipating bullying for adolescents through Islamic parenting styles. The family as the first and foremost educator has played an important role in effort to minimize bullying among adolescents. It is necessary to apply the principles of Islamic education in the family. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods, which aims to make measurements and will help in seeing the fundamental relationship between empirical observations by seeking information about existing symptoms. The population in this study were all high public senior high school students and teachers or the equivalent at Pare in 2021. Non-random sampling approach with purposive sampling method is used based on a regional approach with the level/number of bullying that occurs in the area by determining special characteristics, It’s accordance with the research objectives and based on research problems. The survey found that most of the students are being victims, witnesses and perpetrators of bullying by peers. An anticipation of high bullying through Islamic style is expected to be able to prevent bullying on adolescents today
Integration of Computational Thinking in the Elementary School Curriculum: Teacher Perspectives and Experiences
With the increasing need for computational thinking skills in the digital era, it is important for basic education to start introducing this concept from an early age. This research aims to explore teachers' perspectives and experiences in integrating computational thinking (CT) into the elementary school curriculum. This research uses a mixed approach (mix method), data was collected through questionnaires and distributed to 130 teachers and using in-depth interviews with teachers in several elementary schools. The research results show that most teachers understand the importance of CT and feel that its integration can enrich the learning process. However, there are various challenges faced, including limited resources, lack of training, and resistance to curriculum change. Despite this, some teachers have successfully implemented CT in a variety of subjects through the use of problem-based projects and digital tools. This research concludes that greater support from schools and the provision of ongoing training is needed to optimize the integration of CT in the elementary school curriculum. It is hoped that these findings will provide insight for policy makers and educators to design more effective strategies in developing computational thinking skills at the basic education level
Developing “synchronous model” in english teaching material for public health students: a systematic literature review
The Synchronous Model has become an important part of the development of learning in the 4.0 era. Online learning for teaching English has become a trend that continues to grow and is developed based on the development of Special English (ESP). The Synchronous Model is a media model developed by researchers as the website Synchronous which has been popular in Indonesia and is being developed. However, this review of the Synchronous Model learning in ESP is still relatively rarely developed in the post-pandemic period, preparing rich and reliable Synchronous technology-based learning that is very meaningful and reliable in the future. This technology enhances the scientific nature of English language education in public health at colleges and at the university level. So, this review systematically identifies trends in Synchronous-based learning in ESP for Public Health courses. Data tracking in this study was conducted using Harzing’s Publish or Perish (PoP) application with three databases used, including Google Scholar (GS), Crossref, and Scopus. From the results of the data screening, 6 articles were found that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The conclusion obtained from this systematic search is that the Synchronous Model is the most widely used model in the process of learning English specifically. Second, the Synchronous Model and language are more widely used in ESP learning for public health. Third, the Synchronous Model in ESP dominates the learning process after the Covid-19 pandemic. These three findings imply that there are still gaps in the Synchronous Model and ESP research. In general, this review is very valuable for practitioners to find out which Synchronous Model is ready to be used and developed and can identify gaps for research in Public Health (ESP) English language learning, this SLR is very closely integrated into technology-based learning with English language education in public health at the college and university level
Exploring the Impact of Psychosocial Factors on the Integration of ICT in Teaching Electrical/Electronic Technology Education at Tertiary Level: A Case Study in North-West Nigeria
This research investigates the psychosocial variables influencing lecturers' reluctance to utilize information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching electrical/electronic technology education (EETE) within tertiary institutions in North-West Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the study focused on a sample of 87 lecturers across seven states in the region. A structured questionnaire, validated by three experts and with a Cronbach Alpha reliability value of 0.88, was employed for data collection. The findings, analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation, revealed that competence in ICT and subject matter, attitude, motivation, environmental perception, peer group pressure, and school administration significantly impact lecturers' adoption of ICT tools in teaching. Moreover, gender, experience, and qualification were identified as additional factors influencing the use of ICT in teaching. The study recommends that state governments, particularly through their ministries of education, play a proactive role in promoting asynchronous/synchronous delivery systems for instructional planning, delivery, and evaluation to guide lecturers in tertiary institutions within the studied region
Exploring the role of social support as moderator in mitigating the impact of quantitative job demands on burnout among working mothers : A quantitative study
Women's participation in the Indonesian labor market reached 48.65% by 2022, indicating an increase over the last decade. Women's participation in the labor market, especially working mothers, raises new challenges, such as long working hours, as they are responsible for caring for household and office work that puts them at risk of burnout. Therefore, the study investigates the role of moderation of social support in the relationship between quantitative demands and burnout among working mothers. The study used a sample of 148 participants in Indonesia with the characteristics of married women employees aged 21-55 who had children and worked at least six months at the company. The work background and company background are not limited to the participant sample. This study used the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) as a burnout measurement tool, the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ) as a workplace support and quantitative labor demands measuring tool, and the Family Support Scale as a family support measure. Data analysis using the macro process Hayes model 1 moderation regression in the SPSS program showed that social support has a significant moderation effect of social support on the relationship between quantitative labor demands and burnout in hybrid working mothers or WFH. Hybrid or WFH mothers have a lower risk of burnout when getting higher social support. Therefore, it is important to have support from the workplace, both from the superior and colleagues and from family and close relatives
Paradoxical leadership and organizational support in the new normal era: An experimental vignette study virtual team collective efficacy
Implementation of Working from Home (WFH) or hybrid (WFH and Work from Office) during the COVID-19 pandemic has been known to remain until the end of the pandemic. In spite of that, the implementation of WFH or Hybrid is known to have an impact on interfering with the team functionality that works virtually at the company. Therefore, there needs to be an effort to increase the virtual team’s collective efficacy (VTCE) when collaborating virtually. One of the antecedents that could increase the VTCE is Paradoxical Leadership Behavior (PLB), a leadership style that could combine two competing behaviors into one new behavior, in this case combining the roles of agentic and communal leadership as a whole. Additionally, the Perceived Organizational Support (POS) is an employee’s perception of the organization's effort in increasing welfare and providing support at work are also antecedents from VTCE. Both antecedents are required to be further examined by utilizing vignette experiment 2 (high vs low PLB) x 2 (high vs low POS) between-subject design on 256 employees conducting WFH or hybrid. Utilizing 2 x 2 ANOVA Factorial, a significant effect was revealed from PLB and POS on VTCE. The implication of this research showed that there needs to be an implementation of PLB and post-pandemic organization support to increase the VTCE for the team when conducting WFH or hybrid
Psychometric properties of Sense of Community Scale using Nigerian secondary school students
The populous of Nigeria is fleeing in dread as a result of the obscene security breaches. The school-age teens who may not have a strong feeling of their community are those who are most impacted. Due to the lack of comparable studies in Nigeria, this study carried out the factorial validation of a 36-item SoCS created by Cicognani et al. (2006). The tool was accepted and verified. For this study, a sample of 489 secondary school students was selected using a straightforward random selection procedure. Factor analysis was used to evaluate the validity and reliability of the instrument as part of the factorial validation process. In addition, the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted using the principal component matrix with Varimax rotation, and the data model fit was assessed using the root mean square approximation (RMSEA) and confirmatory factor index (CFI). The study's findings revealed that SoCS in the Nigerian setting exhibited good model fit (RMSEA =.041, CFI =.951) and reliability (0.89). The sense of community among teenagers enrolled in school can be measured with the SoCS
Nigerians with diabetes and their mental health in the context of diabetes care and management: A scoping review
This review aimed to ascertain the prevalence of mental health issues among people with diabetes in Nigeria, the nature of care available for them and the effectiveness of available interventions or management strategies used to treat diabetes-related mental health challenges. Four databases, Google Scholar, PubMed, PsycINFO and Cochrane, were searched. Thirteen studies that focused on the prevalence of mental health challenges among diabetes patients were selected for data extraction and analyses. Another set of five studies was also selected to analyze the effectiveness of diabetes care available to diabetes patients with mental health challenges. This scoping review shows that the prevalence rate of mental health problems among Nigerian diabetic patients is high. It also shows inadequate care or intervention provided to the patients. However, the few available care and interventions were found to be very effective.
