Important Issues in Growth of Islamic Banking Services in East African Context: Study of Selected Banks in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Introduction of Islamic Shariah principle based banking product by a number of international banks in recent past indicates the growing trend in Islamic banking in East Africa. Due to the expected growth, Islamic banking system is likely to face strong competition both from the well-known Islamic banks as well as conventional banks with Islamic banking products. To succesfully cope up with the competitive pressures, the Islamic banking service providers need to understand the important issues related to product design and delivery. The present paper aims to analyze the customers' and service providers' views on different issues related to Islamic banking service in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The study is based on sample of 50 respondents from three selected banks in the city. The findings present details of critical factors instrumental in growth of Islamic banking services in this region
Implementation of Real Time Retrieval of Text from Camera/Scanned Document Image using FPGA
For the few decades, the work on computer captured/scanned-skewed document image is a major challenge for the researchers in the field of OCR. Imaging the old historic or bulky book causes skewness and distortion on the image. The proposed metric retrieval method helps in preprocessing, skeletonization, skew detection, skew correction and recognition using horizontal and vertical text line extraction of the image. Text line detection depends on the goal of digitization. Digitization is helpful in museum and library where old historic and damaged manuscripts are imaged. In the real time the image is captured using the camera fitted in FPGA kit (cyclone II). The captured image is preprocessed with the verilog code which is converted from MATLAB code using simulink HDL coder
Utilization Of Local Government Funds Through Participatory Development In Some Selected Local Government Areas (Lgas) Of Kogi State
The study examines the need for the efficient allocation of local government funds through participatory development in order to ensure the judicious use of their resources. It also examines the rural people’s needs as perceived by them and also their needs as perceived by the local governments. This study is necessitated by the fact that the local government resources are not adequate to provide the needed services and the need therefore to ensure that the resources at their disposal are used efficiently. The primary data for the study were obtained directly from the selected local government areas and the communities while existing literature and their finances provided the source of secondary data. Rank correlation was used to test the degree of correlation between the local governments’ perception of the communities’ problems and the communities’ perception of their problems. It was revealed that the people in the rural communities have the ability to articulate their needs. It was also revealed that in almost all the communities, the people’s perceptions of their problems is quite different from the way their problems were perceived by the local governments. This led therefore to the non efficient use of local government resources as they were not used to meet the people’s needs as expected. It is therefore suggested that the local governments should consult with the communities and carry them along when planning for them. It is also recommended that, the local government officials should consider the communities first in their developmental programmes and not see their own interests as matters of primary concern
The Volatility of Market Risk In Groups of Viet Nam Listed Hotel and Tourism Company Groups during the Financial Crisis 2007-2009
The financial crisis 2007-2009 with certain impacts on the Viet Nam economy and especially, the stock exchange, has affected systematic risk in the whole hotel and tourism industries. Hence, it is the reason to perform the risk re-estimation for the listed firms in these industries.
First of all, by using a proper traditional estimating model to estimate asset and equity beta of three (3) groups of listed companies in Viet Nam entertainment, tourism, and hotel industries, we found out that the beta values, in general, for most companies are acceptable, excluding just a few cases. There are 77% of listed firms with lower risk, among total 22 firms, whose beta values vary in a range from 0 to 1.
Secondly, through comparison of beta values among three (3) above industries, we recognized there are still 18% of total listed firms in the above group companies with beta values higher than (>) 1and have stock returns moving more than the market benchmark.
Last but not least, this paper generates some results that could provide both internal and external investors, financial institutions, companies and government more evidence in establishing their policies in investments and in governance.

Customer’s Perceptions of E-SQ in Online Shopping Context: An Empirical Study in Mumbai (India)
The increasing trend of internet usage in India provides an emerging prospect for online retailers. Online shopping has seen tremendous growth worldwide. In developing countries, online shopping is still in the infancy stage. The advent of electronic commerce has encouraged intensified interest in understanding the customer’s perception about online shopping. E-tailers need to understand the nature of the relationships among service quality, customer satisfaction, and their purchase behavior. If online retailers know the service quality dimensions affecting customer’s behavior then they can develop appropriate marketing strategies to convert browsers into active buyers. In this study various e-service quality dimensions of online shopping as perceived by customers are identified and confirmed their relationship with shopping behavior. The study also confirms is it the perceptions of customers are independent of their gender and marital status. It was discovered that perceptions e-service quality in online shopping context differs with respect to gender but not with respect to marital status. In this study only few e-service quality dimensions were analyzed and tested. As per the study the dimensions reliability, responsiveness, access and efficiency are having positive impact where as flexibility and ease of use are having negative impact with respect to online shopping behavior
Signal Diversity Modification Method to Overcome Partial Band Interference in Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Communication System
In this paper, a cost effective solution is proposed toovercome the Partial Band Interference problem in FrequencyHopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) communication system. Thenumber of Hops per symbol per bit parameter value is modifiedto develop the cost effective solution. The Bit Error Rate (BER)versus Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) or Eb/N plot is taken toanalyse the FHSS communication system performance properlyin the presence of Partial Band Interference. The entire abovespoken FHSS communication system modelling, simulation andperformance analysis are implemented and analysed usingMATLAB
Complexity and the companies' informatization: Case EDI Tunisian companies
Complexity is a recent phenomenon, characterized by incompleteness and unpredictability. With the globalization of business and technological changes, companies are not immune to the complexity. To control the inevitable growth of complexity, they are increasingly adopting more Information and Communication Technology ICT, such as EDI. It is then necessary to consider the impact of the use of EDI on the performance of complex transactions. A study was conducted among 32 Tunisian companies using EDI technology. Linear regression is used to test our model of dependence relation between exogenous variables (using EDI, product complexity, process complexity) and endogenous variable (delivery performance). Thus, we used the MRA (Moderated Regression Analysis), followed by the subgroup analysis to analyze the moderating effect of product complexity on the relationship between the use of EDI and delivery performance. The results show the positive effect of the use of EDI by personnel on delivery performance and the moderating effect of product complexity on the relationship between the number of partners using EDI and delivery performance
Study and Analysis of Fat-Tail Risk and Other Statistical Properties of Indian Stock Market
In this paper, the existence of fat-tail risk and other statistical properties of the Indian Stock Market are studied and analyzed. A fat-tail risk in financial markets refers to extreme swings in the markets. The daily data of S&P CNX Nifty during the years 2001 to 2009 is selected for experiment. The actual distribution of returns are examined which exhibit the statistical characteristics of leptokurtosis and the frequencies of distributions falling into certain ranges of daily returns are compared. The daily return of stock index is forecasted by Fuzzy Time Series Model. The statistical study has shown that the Indian Stock Market has more volatile or risky trading environment than normal distribution
Implementation of New secured data compression technique using Huffman code and Symmetric Key
Data compression is a common requirement for most of the computerized applications. There are many number of unsecured data compression algorithms, which are dedicated to compress different unsecured data formats. Even for a single data type there are number of different compression algorithms, which use different approaches. In this research, we propose a simple and efficient data compression algorithm particularly suited to be used on available commercial basis using secured manner. Our intention is transmitting text data in secured as well as compressed in the open environment. It is using double compression technique based on Huffman coding algorithm and simple symmetric key algorithm. Experiment itself evaluates the performance of new secured data compression algorithm with other data compression algorithm
Philosophy of the Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Future of Humankind The Survival of Humanity
Education, education, and education as best of my knowledge is best path for better tomorrow of humanity on the Earth. Of course not as it is at present, but as should be changed for education of the humans for 21st century.
Summary of the past is present, the future is unpredictable.
Present globalization by certain indications could be the answer from the nature respond on present oversized population. It happens in the past on the Earth, and let us hopes for better tomorrow, and let us work for it.
