Sport Sponsorship as a Tool of Marketing Communication – A Case Study of Two Real Estate Companies
Sponsorship, in general, is an important component of promotional mix devised by many companies. Companies are known to use sponsorship as a means to associate with a particular event as part of their marketing efforts. Sponsoring of sporting events has been in use since long in various parts of the world and has also found ready acceptance in India. Many companies, whether their products /services have some association with a sport or not, are using sport sponsorship. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to make an attempt to better understand the use of sport sponsorship as a tool of marketing communication. To achieve this purpose, a simple instrument was designed with questions related to the sponsorship objectives, process of selecting the event, and evaluation of effectiveness of sport sponsorship. Review of literature was carried out to develop a conceptual framework presenting a foundation for data collection. Real Estate companies are prominent sponsors of sports in the country. A qualitative, case study methodology has been used, based on documents and interviews of two Real Estate companies. The study shows that sport sponsorship has varied objectives. However, some of the most commonly used objectives of sport sponsorship are the corporate related objectives like corporate image, entertainment for clients, and employee relations. The study further shows that companies select a specific sport sponsorship property on the basis of different criteria such as the interest of the top management and the concerned sport’s potential to convey the marketing message. Further, the results of the study show that companies do not carry out formal evaluation of the effectiveness of sport sponsorship
The Nexus Between Government Expenditure and Economic Growth of a Developing Economy
The objective of this study was to re-estimate and re-examine the association between government expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria using annual data from 1980-2009. Granger causality test was employed to test for causal relationship between these variables. The findings were consistent with previous empirical findings. The empirical result showed existence of causal relationship between government expenditure and economic growth, with a unidirectional causality running from government expenditure to economic growth. It can be concluded that in the period of study, government expenditure in Nigeria, to some extent, caused economic growth in the country, but the actual relationship is a subject of further study. Therefore, there should be high degree of transparency and accountability on spending by government at various sector of the economy in order to prevent channeling of public to private account of government officials. Also, there is a need for reduction in hassle cost, sound fiscal policy, improvement of monetary policy, political and social stability, and technological development to enhance economic growth
New Approcah For Assessing Whirling Process Parameters By Computing Equations
There is greater demand for sheet metal spinning, because of cost impact on the parts with very high strength-to-weight ratios available at low cost. Presently there is no adequately guideline available for industry to set process parameters for Whirling Process. Industries are setting such process parameters by hit and trails. Therefore it delays in meeting product delivery time and establishing desired quality of output. Looking at business demand there is great requirement further research on providing setting parameter for Whirling process. Whirling processes are efficient in producing certain characteristics; and there is great flexibility in the process, with a relatively low tool cost. The objectives of this investigation are to establish critical working parameters in spinning, by computing equation on product quality characteristics; and to optimize the working parameters.
The example used is the stainless steel covers which are used in king pin application in four wheeler industry. This research will help metal formulating Industries to establish whirling process with quality and quantity [2Q].

Stock Market Relationship in South Asia: An Empirical Analysis
Literature indicates that there are several studies that have focused on stock market relationships and integration but very limited studies are found in this area that have focused for South Asian markets. Few that have studied stock market relationships and market integration in this region have never included Bhutan, probably due to unavailability of data on Bhutanese stock market or because it is too insignificant in terms of regional market. Particularly the relationship between Bhutanese stock market and Indian stock market is expected to be positive and significant given the very close economic ties/dependence with India. Correlation and regression analysis (data sample includes January 2006 to December 2011 for weekly returns) do not show relations between Bhutanese, Indian or any other stock returns except between Indian and Pakistani market returns. Few time varying effects were noticed when correlations were calculated for different set of split data. In general South Asian markets seem quite independent of each other. Indian stock market, which is more proficient in the region, was expected to have some influence but the results do no support this. Based on the Granger causality test, Indian market seems to provide unidirectional effect on most of the neighbouring stock markets
The Practice of Leadership
Leaders make the difference. The person who takes initiatives and handle situations stand out as leaders. Though many studies have been conducted to understand leadership under different settings, still there is the need to understand leadership dimensions especially in industrial backward regions where organizational processes are not as systematic as in other industrially advanced states in India. The article is an attempt to study the practices of leadership in the state of Manipur, India. To serve the purpose a sample of 25 persons heading organizations of public and private in the state of Manipur was taken. The research instruments used are open ended questionnaire, interviews and observations. Questionnaires have also been served to the subordinates or followers of the leader in the organization to assess perspectives on leadership of the followers and to have a better understanding of the impact of leadership practices
Composition of Capital Structure Decisions: Comparative Empirical Evidence from India
oai:journals.techmindresearch.com:article/133This empirical paper attempts to study the composition of capital structure of Automobile & vehicles industry, Electronics & electrical products industry, Cement industry and Plastic, thermoplastic & rubber industry of the Indian corporate sector. The study is limited to top 79 (17 firms from Automobile & vehicles industry, 29 firms from Electronics & electrical products industry, 20 firms from Plastic, thermoplastic & rubber industry and 13 firms from Cement industry) out of top 500 manufacturing firms selected on the basis of the turnover for the year 2004-2005 which covers the time span of eleven years commencing from 1995-96 to 2005-06. The study reveals that the companies in Automobile & vehicles industry and Electronics & electrical products industry are following conservative approach, while, the companies in Cement industry and Plastic, thermoplastic & rubber industry are following liberal approach of financing through debt in the composition of their capital structure during the study period. It is also observed that companies in Automobile & vehicles industry are following more conservative approach as compared to the approach used by the companies in Electronics & electrical products industry, where, the companies in Cement industry are following more liberal approach as compared to the approach used by the companies in Plastic, thermoplastic & rubber industry of financing through debt in the composition of their capital structure during the period under study. However, debt capital is a cheaper source of finance, thus, the use of debt may maximize the value of wealth of shareholders
A Perceptual Study towards Emergence of Text Messaging as a Marketing Tool
Text messaging, also known as "texting", refers to the exchange of brief written messages between mobile phones over cellular networks. The use of mobile phones has increased significantly over the period of time. Text messaging is gaining popularity as an advertising medium because it is relatively inexpensive and allows businesses to reach out to highly targeted consumers. Millions of people all over the world have the ability to receive text messages. In order to study the perception of people towards increasing use of mobile technology for advertising, the present study has been undertaken on 120 mobile users from the state of Punjab. The data has been analysed using descriptive statistics, Friedman’s two-way ANOVA, Chi-square and Factor analytic approach. The study revealed that the companies are making use of mobile technology at an increasing rate for advertising their products and the preferences of the customers are also widely changing in terms of source of purchase. Also the study revealed that respondents consider mobile advertising as informative though the negative aspects are there
Image Compression of medical images using VQ-Huffman Coding Technique
Digital Medical Imaging has grown very fast in recent years and hence plays a vital role in diagnosis, treatment, and research area. All the radiological modalities such as CT scanners, MRI, US, PET, X-Ray made by multiple vendors and located at one or many sites can communicate by means of DICOM across an network. Now days, hospitals need to store large volume of data about the patients that require huge hard disk space and high bandwidth. This would employ the need to compress DICOM images for efficient storage and transmission over the internet. In this paper, a new compression algorithm combining the features of both lossy (DCT) and lossless (Huffman Coding) compression techniques has been designed and implemented. The performance of proposed algorithm is then improved using Vector Quantization technique in the context of increasing Compression Ratio as well as preserving the quality of compressed images. Different quality metrics like MSE, PSNR and CR are computed on various medical test images. The experimental results show that proposed compression technique performs better than the existing techniques in terms of performance parameters
Perceived Significance of Corporate Social Reporting
Business has not only to protect the interests of shareholders, employees and consumers but also society at large as a wise custodian of the latter’s resources. As social and environmental issues become increasingly important, investors and other stakeholders will want to see that companies are appropriately managing their environmental and social risks. Social reporting is needed because society has certain right to information. Companies must perform social activities and also report such activities, so that society can judge their overall performance. This study seeks to find out the significance of social responsibility information as perceived by preparers, attestors and users of such information. The result of the study shows that out of the overall six areas of social concern environmental contribution has been ranked first followed by energy conservation and human resources. Community involvement has been ranked the last and sixth among the different areas of social concern
