The Role of Paternalistic Leadership on Fostering Employees’ Innovative Behavior: Moderating Effects of Job Insecurity
Employees’ innovative behavior is critical for organizations to be successful and survive among competitors. In this regard, managers have the potential to foster the innovative behavior of their subordinates. This study focuses on the effect of paternalistic leadership on employees’ innovative behavior and examines the moderating effect of job insecurity. This research is based on quantitative methods and was through a sample of 219 employees from Malaysian SMEs. The collected data was analyzed via Structural Equation Modelling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The findings showed a significant relationship between paternalistic leadership and employees’ innovative behavior. The statistical results also showed the negative interaction of job insecurity on relationship between paternalistic leadership and innovative behavior. This study contributes theoretically to leadership and innovation literature and offers a practical contribution to managers of Malaysian SMEs by highlighting the effect of paternalistic leadership on innovative behavior and the effect of job insecurity in the above-mentioned relationship
Regulatory Compliance Motivated Manufacturing Issues In Indian Small & Medium Scale Pharmaceutical Enterprises
In the past few decades, there has been increased attention and concern towards the potential damaging effects of industrial pollutants on the global eco-system. To combat these effects, countries have enacted their own environmental regulatory laws and standards. However removal of the pollutants at the source and keeping the product standards according to the regulatory compliance level becomes a major concern for the manufacturing sector, particularly to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs). Focus of this study is on Indian Pharmaceutical Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (PSMEs), aimed at identifying and prioritizing the reasons, nature and magnitude of vulnerable regulatory issues to environmental compliance. Stratified random sampling design is adopted for data and prioritization of the issues arising out of compliance measure is done using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The study and related reviews brings out the relevance of strategic interventions from government, regulatory organizations and industry associations for improving the sustainable business environment of SMEs
Cloud Computing Data Security for the Masses
The cloud offers little platform-level support or standardization for user data protection beyond data encryption at rest, most likely because doing so is nontrivial. Protecting user data while enabling rich computation requires both specialized expertise and resources that might not be readily available to most application developers. Cloud computing provides many benefits in terms of low cost and accessibility of data. Ensuring the security of cloud computing is a major factor in the cloud computing environment, as users often store sensitive information with cloud storage providers but these providers may be un-trusted. This paper surveys recent research related to single and multi-cloud security and addresses possible solutions. It is found that the research into the use of multi-cloud providers to maintain security has received less attention from the research community than has the use of single clouds. The data-protection-as-a-service cloud platform architecture dramatically reduces the per-application development effortrequired to offer data protection while still allowing rapid development and maintenance
Financial Institutions’ Operations & Capital Flight In Nigeria
This study examines the impact of Financial Institution variables and operations on the level of capital flight in Nigeria for a period of forty two years. The financial institutions globally are expected to perform certain fundamental functions that are believed to the prerequisites for economic growth and stability. Required secondary data were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin, the Nigeria Stock Exchange fact books and IMF financial reports while the Ordinary Least Square Method of Regression analysis and Co-integration Technique were employed to estimate and test the impact of selected economic and financial institutions’ variables such as the prevailing Deposit Rate, Private Sector Credit, Change in Net Foreign Asset of Domestic Financial Institutions, Inflation Rate, Gross Capital Formation and Nigeria and U. S interest rate differentials on the level of capital outflow from Nigeria. With the World Bank and Erbe (1985) capital flight estimate, the findings reveal that all the explanatory variables are significance in explaining the behavior of capital. The results also show that each of the explanatory variables has specific impact on the dependent variable. Specifically, high inflation rate induces capital flight, increase Gross Capital Formation (LGCF) reduces capital flight, and appreciable deposit rate on bank deposit encourages domestic savings while the Credit to Private sector has not brought about the desire expectation of improving and sustaining the domestic economy. The study recommends that government should provide an enabling environment that will enhance the ability of the financial institutions to perform their functions effectively and the private individuals to invest in the domestic economy profitably. While financial institutions managers and operators should adhere to the sound ethical practices and desist from shape practices that encourage illegal transferring of money
A Spatial Conceptual Data Model For Public Health In Nigeria
Sub Saharan Africa region is synonymous with various health problems ranging from diseases (such as malaria, measles, and tuberculosis), environmental to other public health related problems. In the region, most of the diseases and health related problems are as a result of environmental problems.
Despite all the health problems, sub Saharan Africa most especially Nigeria lacks national health database. In the country, there is inadequate health care delivery system and patchy epidemiological data couple with the fact that there is no reliable method of epidemiological data collections.
In order to solve these problems, this paper proposed a well organised conceptual public health data model for Nigeria, which addresses all the health problems and their causes. The proposed data model could be used to develop any health related system such as national public health database system, and disease surveillance system, which we intend to develop from this, proposed data model. The model is motivated by an interoperable disease surveillance and prediction system in Nigeria.
We started with review of the existing health data models which include disease surveillance data models developed for Nigeria and Kenya which we modified and extended to develop a spatial conceptual public health data model in Nigeria. The proposed data model contributed to the existing health data models with its environmental health feature, which makes the model to be unique from other existing health data models.
The model is developed using unified modelling language. We intend to make the model and health related systems that would be developed from the proposed data model open so as to allow other researchers most especially from sub Saharan Africa region and those that are interested in the region to contribute to the maintenance of the public health data model.
The systems that would be developed from the proposed data model would make use of web feature services technology and allow interoperability with other health related systems. The proposed system would be able to capture, store, query, retrieve, and generate reports on any disease and the environmental problems that caused such health related problems among other things
Determinant factors of cognitive moral development in audit activities: Ethical decision perspective (Empirical study on public accounting firms)
This study was aimed to investigate the influence of each variable (Machiavellian, Cognitive Moral Development and the Need for Achievement) either directly or indirectly on Premature Sign Off (PSO). For this purpose, a survey method was applied to gather information. The unit of analysis was junior auditors, senior auditors, supervisors and managers in the Public Accounting Firms (PAF) located in the city of Jakarta affiliated with leading foreign Public Accounting Firms (in the category of The Big Four). Relationship between the variables was tested by applying Structural Equation Model (SEM) through AMOS software to prove validity of each proposed hypothesis before. Through hypothesis testing procedures, the research findings showed that Need for Achievement and Cognitive Moral Development negatively and significantly influenced Premature Sign Off. Then, Machiavellian positively and significantly influenced Premature Sign Off. But, Machiavellian negatively and significantly Cognitive Moral Development. In the other side, Need for Achievement positively and significantly influenced Cognitive Moral Development. The conclusion of this research also indicated that the direct influence of Machiavellian on Premature Sign Off was weaker than its indirect influence through Cognitive Moral Development. Conversely, without being mediated by Cognitive Moral Development, Need for Achievement performed the stronger direct influence than its indirect influence
Microfinance Services: A Missing Product in Islamic Banks in Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises in Tanzania
The study aimed to sensitize the Islamic banking in Tanzania in initiating Islamic microfinance which is a missing tool in boosting small and medium business ventures in Tanzania. The study employed descriptive corelational research design whereby data collection was done through both probability and non probability sampling design. Data were collected in three banks (National Bank of Commerce, Kenya Commercial Bank, and Akiba Commercial Bank) which are Islamic Bank windows, and in Amana Bank which is a fully fledged Islamic Bank. The findings of the study revealed that Islamic microfinance is concerned with the provision of financial and non financial services to the poor who desire to embark in entrepreneurship based on Islamic values for the aim promoting development and welfare of the entire society. Based on those findings, the study recommends that Islamic microfinance should be established in those carrying out Islamic banking in Tanzania because these interest free financial institutions often support Small and Medium Enterprises with small loans for the purpose of improving their business operations
Maturity of Knowledge Management and Knowledge Enabled Business Process
Business today is highly knowledge intensive, be it traditional “Brick & Mortar” company or from the new economy arena like of IT organisations or financial sectors. Organisations are increasingly allocating more budgets year after year in capturing, disseminating, motivating people to reuse the experiential learning and make people collaborate & innovate in a streamlined way. Still, while organisations met with reasonably good success in capturing learning and providing sharing culture, their record on making people reuses those experiences is abysmal. This paper aims to present in the context of Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering Ltd, how it has overcome by enabling knowledge in the standard operating procedure (SOP) of business process. This concept demonstrates the ways to make KM non-intrusive for end user by knowledge enabling daily work of an average knowledge worker. It also minimizes the need for extra resource and management attention without compromising the knowledge competitiveness of the organisation. The paper also aims to present characteristics of various levels of KM process maturity conceptualized by authors derived out of case study and literature
