    Get PDF
There are studies suggesting that primitive reflexes can remain active in healthy children. Formal backstroke teaching is a part of many aquatic curriculum program.  Even though the links with a problem during swimming learning with retained primitive reflexes were mentioned, there are no studies about effect of different backstroke teaching methods in healthy children with residual primitive reflexes. Aim of the study is to define the effect of teaching methods for backstroke in healthy children with residual primitive reflexes. Subjects:  6-7 years old healthy children with residual primitive reflexes. Methods: A part practice backstroke teaching method for the first group (12 children) has been focused on teaching of separate components (leg kicks, arm pulls, and breathing) before fitting them together, while another 12 participants in second group learnt backstroke separate components of arm-to-leg integration before combining them together inside of cycle. After 12 weeks of practice backstroke proficiency and heart rate during maximal continuous backstroke swimming were analyzed. The obtained results show significant differences between the two groups. The results of the second group are linked with better backstroke proficiency, significantly longer swimming distance and lower heart rate during swimming.

    Get PDF
In the digital age when many organizations initiate and experience transformations as a reaction to wider societal changes, there is discussion about functionality, usability and availability of library services. Studies report a decreasing number of library visitors as result of the pervasive presence of the Internet as a faster source for getting resources, public`s lack of knowledge about the library services, etc. To maintain relevance for the public, more libraries apply principles of service design to provide an effective customer experience. For national libraries websites are of high importance as gateways to library resources and media to communicate institutions` objectives. The aim of this article is to analyse how the principles of service design are reflected in the online services offered by the National Library of Latvia. The research methods rely both on secondary data on audience needs and involve application of the service design principles to the website of National Library of Latvia. Results highlight the majority of analysed libraries apply the basic principles of service design and the focus is to provide the user friendly experience in libraries` databases and repositories. The website of the library provides limited user friendly experience in library`s and only partially follows the principles of service design.

The issue of teacher’s professional competence is multidimensional and multifaceted, it depends on several aspects, including educational policy, system implemented in every country and the particular educational establishment, which the educator works for. Being aware of the current pedagogical reality, challenges of the education system, pupils’ needs and manifold learning and teaching strategies, educators need knowledge, skills and experience of different levels formed for each particular individual in combination of education and experience with their physical, psychological and mental abilities. The goal of the article is to identify the structure of teacher’s professional competence being conscious of the theoretical and normative framework on the international and national level. In the article the theoretical research methods (method of comparison and critical thinking) and empirical research methods (data collection and document analysis) have been applied. In the society, educational institutions, also being aware of the transformation process in the education content and branch, there is a demand for teachers with a high level of professional competence. Education policy makers have set a very broad and extensive professional competence standard, which includes in itself both aspects related to the professional activity and individual characteristics, features and values. At the same time, there are various theoretical approaches which describe the framework of teacher’s professional competence and its multidimensional characteristic. The authors of the article have identified general knowledge, skills and attitude, as well as pedagogical knowledge, skills and attitude in the framework of the teacher’s professional competence structure.

This scientific article presents a theoretical review of stress factors of young students and the results of empirical research of these factors at the Rezekne Academy of Technologies. The need for such research is justified by International studies (n=540 000), in which was found that the study process causes high level of stress in 37% of students. The results of other studies in different countries also show that the prevalence and severity of mental problems among students is increasing. Overall, these studies indicate that students are increasingly experiencing symptoms of increased anxiety and stress, as well as depression. Thus, increase in student stress levels and related deterioration of students\u27 psychological well-being is a major challenge in today\u27s higher education institutions. Taking into account the mentioned findings, the aim of this article is to identify the most common stress factors in the study process at the Rezekne Academy of Technologies. The analysis of scientific literature and empirical results were used as basic methods in the development of the article.

THE STYLE FEATURES OF STUDENTS\u27 COGNITIVE ACTIVITY AS THE BASIS FOR FORMATION OF MATHEMATICAL LITERACY

Mathematical literacy is the main indicator of the mathematical development of schoolchildren from different countries. In the concept of the direction "mathematical literacy" of the PISA-2021 study, the key component of the concept of mathematical literacy is mathematical reasoning. The development of this skill, first of all, is determined by the stylistic features of the cognitive activity of students in the study of mathematics. Taking them into account in the development of educational material in mathematics will create optimal conditions for the formation of a key component of mathematical literacy. But there are many stylistic features of cognitive activity. Therefore, to develop optimal conditions, taking into account the style features, it is necessary to answer the question: "Which of the style features of cognitive activity have a stronger effect on the effectiveness of solving mathematical problems and how to implement them in educational mathematical activity." In our study, we identified various ways of implementing style features in educational mathematical material, one of the most significant are ways of presenting (coding) information. With this in mind, an experiment was conducted. We applied analysis of variance to its results. The study showed: 1) in general, it is possible to trace relations between successful mathematical problem solving by students with certain individual styles and the way the selected problem is represented; 2) it is necessary to make further research on students\u27 awareness of their personal cognitive characteristics (style features).

SELF-KNOWLEDGE: AN IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR IMPROVING TEACHERS\u27 EMOTIONAL RESPONSIVENESS IN LIFELONG EDUCATION

    Get PDF
The quality of a teacher\u27s professional activity is closely tied to personal growth. Personal growth, however, is influenced by self-knowledge (K. G. Jung 1994, 2001; Wilber 2010, 2013; Plotkin, 2020; Dispenza, 2015, 2016). Nowadays, there is a shift in the approaches of upbringing and educational work – from a child-focused approach to a child-centered one (OECD, 2019). Therefore, one of the currently relevant skills is getting to know oneself in order to cooperate more successfully with others and be able to accept real-life situations. The results obtained confirm that through the self-knowledge process, teachers get to experience their own personality growth. Categories such as empathy, attitude, and daringness are identified in personal growth. The research shows that by experiencing the procedural activities of self-knowledge with the help of “Get to know yourself!” method and methodological tool developed by the author, teachers improve their emotional responsiveness. The results of the study show that through the experiences gained in the self-knowledge process, teachers learn to integrate new models of action into their pedagogical activities. The aim of the study was to show the importance of self-knowledge in improving teachers\u27 emotional responsiveness in lifelong education, by using the method "Get to know yourself!" developed by the author of the study. The objectives of the study were literature examination and evaluation and work with the target audience by using the author\u27s method and methodological tool "Get to know yourself!".Methods: Literature studies, survey, observation.

    Get PDF
Technologies are becoming an integral component of study process. Opportunities brought by digitalisation in the field of education are not at variance with the right to education and conform to the right to exploit the achieved scientific and technical progress for enhancing human life and welfare; moreover, there no grounds for asserting that knowledge and skills acquired remotely are at a lower level than the results of face-to-face learning. However, to develop a uniform understanding and create a stable legal basis for the evolution of remote studying, legislative amendments that would define remote studying and set forth related requirements are needed. The aim of the research is the analysis of remote studies as a form and practice of education, evaluating the provisions of regulatory enactments in order to find out its admissibility and compliance with the right to education. The research uses document analysis, as well as methods of interpretation of legal norms and induction-deduction method, drawing conclusions and making proposals for improving regulatory enactments and practice of higher education establishments. However, there exist various interpretations of the content of remote studies. The management of higher education establishments are also discussing the construction of the term ‘contact hour’ provided in the Law on Higher Education Institutions, including remote studying that at least partially duplicates distance and open learning and additional requirements concerning the organisation of the remote study process.
