THE VOICE OF THE CHILD: AN ANALYSIS OF THE CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM IN LITHUANIAN FAMILY SOCIAL WORK
This paper explains the current practices of the child welfare system in the context of Lithuania. In Europe, research on child welfare has a long history; however, the child welfare situation in Lithuania has not been systematically studied, nor has it been provided with the research-based knowledge necessary for the development of the system. Based on qualitative research results, the paper sheds light on how the voice of the child is heard in Lithuanian child and family social work practice. The research participants in the present study were children and family social workers. The research results indicate that adult-centered family social work practices are dominant and the voice of the child is misleading in the intervention process
EXPRESSION OF THE NEEDS OF THE CHARACTERS OF FAIRY TALES CREATED BY CHILDREN GROWING UP IN FAMILIES AT SOCIAL RISK AND THEIR SATISFACTION
The scientific literature analyses in detail the problems of a family at social risk, threats to the child’s social and personality development, etc., however, all insights are provided from an adult perspective – research that would allow the voice of a child growing up in a family at social risk to be heard has not been detected. Children have a limited ability to talk about their experiences. This is facilitated by the creation of a fairy tale, where the child, through the images of the characters created, can safely convey his/her individual life experiences. The aim of the article is to identify the expression of the needs of the characters of fairy tales created by children growing up in families at social risk and their satisfaction. Fairy tales created by 9‒12 year old children were selected as the object of analysis. Of the 69 texts written by children, 47 were selected for analysis. The content analysis of fairy tales was based on the principles of phenomenological hermeneutics. The analysis of fairy tales created by children growing up in families at social risk shows that the characters of the fairy tales they create experience the following unmet needs: physiological, security and social. Heroes of the fairy tales of children growing up in families at social risk are not prone to solving problems, it is more comfortable for them to live as usual, although not always they feel good because of that.
IMPLEMENTATION OF PRACTICE-ORIENTED APPROACH IN THE TRAINING OF FUTURE BACHELORS IN AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING
Modern trends in the labour market of Ukrainian agricultural sector place high demands on the professional expertise and training of future Agricultural Engineers. Agricultural sector of Ukraine is currently experiencing an acute shortage of human resources capable of adapting rapidly to new social and economic conditions, mobile and competitive in the world labour market. In this case, the development of professional competence is an important requirement risen for future Agricultural Engineering bachelors’ training. The article discusses the essence of the practice-oriented approach used for future Agricultural Engineering bachelors’ training and identifies effective practice-oriented technologies for their training future. The experiment was conducted at Hlukhiv Agrotechnical institute named after S. A. Kovpak, Sumy National Agrarian university. 90 undergraduate students, 15 university teachers participated in the study and 18 representatives of employers. The study was aimed at identifying effective training technologies targeted at developing Agricultural Engineers’ skills necessary in the labour market. In order to conduct experiment a questionnaire was developed to identify teaching and learning problems as well as students’ requests to improve the educational process. The survey also identified the most effective training technologies and those that didn’t find their widespread practical use.Practice-oriented technologies facilitate future Agricultural Engineering bachelors’ professional activities during their training in higher education institutions. These include contextual learning technologies, design technologies, case-study technologies, interactive technologies, problem-based technologies, portfolio-based technologies, master class technologies.
FORMATION OF THE NURSES’ PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDES FOR WORK IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
While the transformation of the medical education in general is competence-oriented and practice based, the article focuses on the role of the attitudes for the development of the nurses’ education and profession. Covid-19 critical conditions created new complicated cognitive, professional and psycho-emotional challenges for health care specialists. Nurses’ work ability and professional attitudes have become the central factor to solve clinical and personal problems in order to provide patient-centered and effective medical care. However, it shows that nurses do not have all the necessary competences to quickly adapt, react and keep psycho-emotional balance, working in critical situations. Theoretical analyses and empirical investigations are aimed at finding out what skills and attitudes are essential for medical specialists in Covid-19 pandemic conditions and how students feel about their readiness to use necessary skills and attitudes in practice in unexpected and complicated conditions The article discusses how to transform the organisation of the medical college study process and content to give students opportunities to acquire experience and develop necessary attitudes for the complicated practice. The focus is on studying the nurses’ attitudes necessary for the Covid 19 situation and possibility to promote them in the authentic work-based study process. The study of theoretical sources and survey results give evidence that practice-based studies can promote medical students’ professional attitudes and psycho-emotional capacity, if medical studies are aimed at forming emergency oriented skills and structured in the practice-based environment. Implementation of attitudes as outcome into programmes and effective transition of attitudes into practice can promote higher quality of nurses’ professional and responsibility level.
NEED FOR VALUE EDUCATION AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION
For a peaceful world and society, it is essential for cultures to be developed and transformed through common values, and value education is one of the main ways to do that since core values are formed from an early age. But when society is going through a radical transformation process as it is in the case of Latvia, it is difficult to avoid anomie when different and conflicting ideas, memories and norms exist in society. The aim of the research is to explore and analyse the tendencies of the main values in the society of Latvia across different age groups, to see how the situation has developed and what are the main values that need to be stressed through value education in the ongoing educational reform process. To reach the aim of the research, a literature review as well as the analysis of the European Social Survey (2008 and 2018) data was conducted. The research results show some shift in values of the society in Latvia mainly due to priorities of younger generation in the period from 2008 to 2018: universal values have replaced self-direction values as the third most common value in the society of Latvia. In the case of younger generations value perception is indefinite. Partly this is due to the lack of focus on values in our education system since the restoration of independence. There is a need to strengthen the motivational values connected with conformity, self-direction, stimulation and universalism (tolerance) through value education. It is desirable to highlight the values of achievement such as creativity and desire to succeed, as they are essential for the knowledge society and stimulate motivation for entrepreneurship.
CORRELATION BETWEEN PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING AND LEVEL OF RELIGIOSITY MANIFESTATION AT DIFFERENT AGES
The influence of modern society non-stability due to different reasons (political, economic, epidemiological etc.) on people’s well-being, mood and health is obvious. The objective of the study is the correlation between psychological well-being and religiosity manifestation of people at different ages. In our research we set the aim of studying and revealing the dynamics of correlation between these two categories while aging. Hypothesis of our research is that there is a dynamic of correlation associations while aging and there is strong positive association between psychological well-being and religiosity manifestation at second part of middle age and old age. We take religiosity as a deep personal structure, existential attitude which cannot be limited by definite religious confession but can be measured by manifestation factors. We conducted our research on the basis of Samara Methodist Church in 2018-2020. The sample includes 85 people, among them 22 at the age of 20-24(early adulthood), 20 at the age of 25-50(first part of middle age), 21 at the age of 51-64(second part of middle age, preretirement period), 18 at the age of 65-85 (old age). Study methods: observation, conversation, “Psychological well-being scales by Carol Ryff”, authors’ “questionnaire on religiosity manifestation”, methods of mathematical statistics (Spearman\u27s correlation coefficient). Analyzing the dynamics of the correlation between level of religiosity manifestation and psychological well-being we revealed that while aging there are quite different correlation data. There is no statistically significant association between General Index of Psychological well-being and level of religiosity manifestation at the ages of early adulthood and first part of middle age, but in the groups of participants of second part of the middle age and old age there is strong positive correlation
METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF TEACHER TRAINING FOR THEATRICAL ACTIVITIES WITH PUPILS
The research was conducted as part of the project of Erasmus + (Module Jean Monnet) “EU experience of soft skills development of preschool and primary school age children by theatre activities in teacher training”.The purpose of the article is to find out the educational value of theatrical activities, to reveal the methodological aspects of preparing teachers for theatrical activities with pupils. The study used theoretical methods: analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature, synthesis, comparison, method of modeling and generalization of research results; diagnostic methods: interview, survey, observation, interview: methods of processing experimental data for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results of diagnostic tests. The concept of “theatrical activity” is specified, the educational and developmental potential of theatrical activity is revealed, the technique of introduction of theatrical activity in practice of modern school is developed, methodical bases of preparation of teachers for theatrical activity with schoolchildren are opened. The results of empirical research have shown that most teachers do not use theatrical activities in their own pedagogical practice. Only certain elements are introduced in art and language lessons: staging of literary works or songs. We are convinced that theatrical activities are a powerful effective means of moral, aesthetic, promotes the development of social skills (soft skils), because it allows to involve students in various types of artistic creativity: literary, musical, visual, stage, choreographic. Through participation in theatrical performances, creative potential is revealed, high moral values are formed, sufficient communication skills are needed to model social behavior in the children\u27s team, in the family and society as a whole. The study allowed to confirm the importance and practical feasibility of using theatrical activities as a means of education and development of youth
A METHODOLOGY TO STUDY PEDAGOGICAL EDUCATION OF UKRAINE: THE REGIONAL DIMENSION
Aim of the research is to validate the methodological approaches, developed by the authors, for the further use in the studies on historical pedagogy that within the regional aspect examine the processes of emergence of pedagogical education in Ukraine. For highlighting the issues of methodology of the historical and pedagogical research within the regional dimension, contemporary scientific approaches were used, including the integrated, systematic, activity, and synergic ones. The principles of objectivity, evidence, comprehensiveness, substantive analysis, of historical and logical coherence, of continuity, and systematic one were chosen as the main methodological grounds for the research. The study is novel in that it allows to assert: the mentioned methods of research with regard to its key concepts provide an opportunity to compare and trace the evolution and dynamics of development of the pedagogical education of the region within the defined chronological frame, shaping it as a complex, controversial process, influenced by many factors. The results prove that a research on pedagogical history should be grounded in holistic, historical and chronological, systematic, paradigm, structural, functional, axiological, and cultural studies approaches, be science-based, historically accurate, congruous with nature and culture. Within the scope of these approaches and principles, appropriate research methods should be used, i.e. empirical, general-science and specialized ones
