Art Farm Internship: St. Croix, USVI
The experience that I chose to use my funding for was an internship on the island of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, at a local organic farm on the island’s south shore. I learned valuable skills that will help me obtain jobs and opportunities in the future, as well as made priceless connections with people that could certainly fruit into jobs later in life. On the farm, doing things as simple as closing gates and watering the plugs of lettuce made a big difference in terms of how quickly the tasks of the day got done and how many things we were able to do on any given day. The farm work was hard work, and I was certainly not prepared for each and every task that I had to do, but I do think that my environmental studies classes and learning experiences at Conn helped me to do better and learn faster while interning at the farm. This internship went right along with my major and my career goals, and showed me ways in which working in my field is possible
