Characteristics of Single Photon Avalanche Photodiodes
No full textSingle photon avalanche diode technology is growing and expanding at an upward progression in our society. These devices play a pivotal role in defense, communication, and space-borne applications, specifically in NASA and DoD related missions. Unlike a typical photodetector, single photon avalanche diodes are highly sensitive devices that can detect down to a single photon. There are many factors within the fabrication process of these detectors to consider in order to produce the most effective outcome. Some of these factors include compactability and size, materials available, as well as potential limitations including environment, cost, and temperature. This paper will outline the basics of single photon avalanche diodes: the physics and engineering principles behind the process, the considerations and deliberations that go into fabrication and testing, as well as certain figures of merit and parameters by which they are assessed. The paper will then highlight real world applications that data and conclusions from this study apply to directly, specifically space-borne missions where radiation levels are considerably higher than in Earth-borne missions. Different radiation hardening methods in order to improve longevity and effectiveness of these devices will be described. Lastly, the future of single photon avalanche diodes will be discussed, illustrating new concepts and directions that the field is heading into
Enduring Memories from the Covid Pandemic
Get PDFThe Covid pandemic brought with it a cascade of effects that drastically altered each of our lives. The liminality and uncertainty of this crucial period for students during this time are certain to have long-lasting implications on psychology and personality. The purpose of this study was to examine the enduring memories of students and identify trends among these memories. The research design was correlational, using online questionnaires and multiple correlations. Participants were 97 college students aged 18-24, who provided two of their most significant memories from the Pandemic, followed by responding to questionnaires including prompts that assessed affective qualities of the memories, the Centrality of Events Scale, a Self-Defining Memory Prompt, some questions that assessed lifestyle alterations during the pandemic, and the Covid Transitional Impact Scale. Results showed significant relationships among memory importance, positive affect, and negative affect. Memories rated as more positive were overall rated as more important, and memories that were rated more negatively were generally rated as less important. There was also a significant correlation between event centrality and the self-defining nature of the pandemic memories. These data suggest the resilience of students in this age group in that they seemed to employ redemptive strategies to draw positive meaning from negative events. Also, the most frequent category of pandemic memory for these students was related to relationships, highlighting the importance of alterations to normal social rhythms during the pandemic. Future research should look at longitudinal data to assess the persistent effects of living through the pandemic. Memories should be explored in greater detail to be able to code for recurring patterns and trends
Numerical Black Hole Solutions For A Timelike Bumblebee Field
Get PDFThis work builds on a paper by Casana et al. [1], in which they calculated an exact, spherically symmetric solution to the Einstein equations in the presence of a bumblebee vector field. We extend their solutions by introducing a timelike component to the vector field. We are able to obtain series solutions to the Einstein equation in the presence of this field. We then demonstrate that these solutions recover flat spacetime. Our results cast doubt on the physical viability of this model, but a more thorough proof is required

Securing these opportunities required strategic networking, providing me with a diverse and hands-on experience. At Sheehan Phinney, I engaged in job shadowing, observing legal professionals in their daily routines and attending hearings and trials, which depended on my understanding of the legal field and reinforced my aspiration to become a corporate lawyer. I also interned with the City of Lebanon\u27s Human Director\u27s office, which allowed me to participate in negotiations and policy analysis. These experiences honed my professional skills, such as time management, communication, and critical thinking. Reflecting on my performance, I identified strengths in adaptability and task efficiency, as well as areas for improvement, particularly in legal research and maintaining motivation in less structured environments. Overall, these internships were instrumental in shaping my career goals and provided a solid foundation for my future endeavors in law
