How International Trade and Government Integrity Affect the Structural Transformation of Lao PDR and Cambodia
Get PDFThis paper explores the how international trade and government integrity affect the structural transformation of Lao PDR and Cambodia. This empirical study is conducted by using the methodology based on Chenery-Syrquin model with several control groups that have impacted on structural transformation in Lao PDR and Cambodia. Moreover, the obtained data is from 1993 to 2021 to find out how these two countries transform from being agriculture dominant economy to being more industry-and services-oriented economy. This study has confirmed non-linear effects of both income and population on the sectoral shares and found that trade has facilitated structural transformation in Lao PDR but that didn’t happen in Cambodia. The political corruption index affected the sectional sectors in different ways in Lao PDR and Cambodia, but the results are not statistically significant
Exploring the Relationship Between Exchange Rate Pass-Through and CPI Inflation in Mainland China and India
Get PDFBy examining the link between exchange rate transmission and cpi inflation across countries, we investigate whether there is a considerable link between the two. In this paper, we examine data for two representative Asian countries, mainland China and India, to determine whether there is a relationship between the two. The study finds no significant link between exchange rate and cpi inflation for China by comparing 40 years of data for these two countries, but for India, there is a particularly clear link. The difference between the two is mainly due to the different exchange rate control systems implemented by the two governments. The paper will explore and test this further to find if there is a link between the two and which factor has the greatest impact on the exchange rate
Electric Vehicle Uptake: What Factors are Motivating the Shift for College-Aged and Older Groups?
Get PDFElectric vehicles (EVs) arguably are the most quickly expanding form of transportation as the world races toward a greener future with advanced technology and reduced reliance on fossil fuels. This study analyzes various expected inputs to motivating consumers of particular age groups to purchase EVs, including examination of how the idea of EV ownership is currently perceived and testing which factors influence it positively and negatively. Data collected from 113 survey respondents serves as the basis for determining the responsiveness of potential future EV owners to variables such as vehicle brand and charging availability, electric range, costs associated with purchase and ownership, and other related hypotheticals. Analysis of proportions, followed by chi-squared hypothesis testing contributes to conclusions of how open college-aged and non-college-aged buyers are to these environmentally friendly vehicles, as well as what the key drivers of their encouragement or reluctance are
The Impact of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Fashion Industry
Get PDFThis research study is an examination of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the marketing and infrastructure of companies within the commercial fashion industry. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, this paper examines the purchasing preferences and behaviors of young adults and whether their opinions on diversity and inclusivity impact it. Second, this paper examines the financial impact of companies that adopted an inclusive and diverse approach to their marketing strategies and company infrastructure. I hypothesize that inclusivity and diversity are qualities highly valued by consumers and would thus have a positive financial impact on companies that focus on them. Recent literature emphasizes the overall need for improvement in the fashion industry and the results that DEI has when implemented. To test this hypothesis, I conduct a survey to evaluate peoples’ purchasing preferences, perform a financial analysis of 15 highly valued fashion companies that have adopted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and conduct 3 case studies of stock price and trade volume movement in response to DEI-related press releases
The Interaction Between Spending Policies and Asset Allocation for College and University Endowment
Get PDFThe analysis revealed better combinations of asset allocation and spending policy for college and university endowments that efficiently balance the desirable outcomes of stable spending in real terms against maintaining the purchasing power of the endowment over time (intergenerational equity). Using the variability and correlation of historical asset class returns, we created a forward-looking, projection-based, multivariate Monte Carlo simulation of individual asset class returns. The simulation incorporates the relationships between inflation and asset class returns, and the relationships among asset class returns. The projected time series of asset class returns produced a time series of endowment portfolio returns given an asset allocation. Applying a spending policy to each time series of portfolio returns generated the associated time series of spending and endowment values in nominal and inflation-adjusted terms. We tested 18 different endowment combinations (6 asset allocations x 3 spending policies) to examine three crucial endowment management decisions concerning: alternative assets in asset allocation, equity assets in asset allocation, and inflation factors in spending policy. Our findings suggest that inflation-adjusted spending policies combined with portfolios that include alternative assets and greater equity allocations are better for achieving intergenerational equity. In addition to the specific combinations studied, the simulation engine that was developed can be extended and utilized to test multiple additional asset allocation and spending policy combinations to further our understanding of this important issue
First Asian Fossil Record of Platydictya (Amblystegiaceae) from the Lower Miocene and its Paleoenvironmental Significance
No full textMosses form a diverse land plant group in modern vegetation but have rarely showed up in the fossil record compared with vascular plants. Here, we report an extraordinarily-preserved early Miocene moss fossil from the lower Laoliangdi Formation in the Pingzhuang Coal Mine in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern China. Although lacking rhizoids and most reproductive organs, the well-preserved fossil allows us to assign it to Platydictya cf. jungermannioides (Amblystegiaceae) based upon its detailed gross and micromorphology. The diagnostic characteristics include a small-sized body with slender stems bearing spirally arranged ovate-lanceolate leaves that lack costae. Leaf margins are mostly partly entire and partly dentate, a few dentate, and rarely completely entire. It represents the first fossil record of Platydictya in Asia. The specific living microenvironment of the extant P. jungermannioides enriched our understanding of the early Miocene environment that was previously based upon vascular plant fossils and sedimentary lithofacies in the area. Our early Miocene Platydictya cf. jungermannioides fossil lived in a warm and humid lush forest with a dense understory that received adequate water supplies
Examining the Gender and Minority Test Score Gap on the MFT-B: A Blinder-Oaxaca Decomposition Approach
No full textThis paper examines performance differences among demographic groups on the ETS Major Field Test in Business. The study employs the Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition technique to analyze the test score differentials by gender and racial minority status. This technique decomposes the difference into two parts: an endowment effect (or explained portion) and a returns effect (or unexplained portion). The results demonstrate that the endowment effect fully explains the gap between white and racial minority students but virtually none of the gender gap. This large unexplained gap between male and female test performance suggests the need for further study of potential gender bias of the exam
