Unpacking the Unconscious: Mortality Awareness and Its Effects on Consumer Engagement in Charitable Campaigns
This research aims to investigate the interplay between terror management theory, self-other message framing, and psychological distance in influencing individuals’ perceptions, judgements, and behavioral responses, particularly in context of advertisements featuring animals of varying proximity to humans. The purpose of this research is to understand how mortality sensitivity and the categorizations of ‘self’ and ‘other’ impact individuals’ attitudes and intentions towards advertisements featuring animals. The research methodology employed involves experimental designs with manipulated salience of priming conditions (birth or death) and the presentation of animals (monkey as proxy to self and frog as distal to self) to gauge participants attitudes, donation intention and donation amount. The results indicate that when mortality is insensitive, individuals resonate more effectively with the “self” framed messaging, demonstrating more favorable attitudes towards advertisements featuring animals closely related to humans, like monkeys. When mortality is sensitive, the animal distant from human experience, frogs, is more favorable as individuals want to avoid the thoughts of death close to themselves. The presence of psychological dissonance plays a pivotal role in these reactions, as individuals navigate the incongruity between their self-concept, the nature of the animals presented, and the priming conditions. Our findings highlight the significance of terror management theory and message framing in shaping individuals’ responses to advertising stimuli, revealing intricate cognitive processes that drive decision-making
CPA Exam Evolution 2024: How Accounting Students are Impacted in the University Curriculum and in the Industry
With the updated CPA exam coming out in 2024, accounting education and the profession need to make changes in a variety of areas to ensure their students are ready. This study considers how current accounting students can be prepared, how the new exam will impact undergraduate and graduate accounting curriculum models, and how the workplace has been adjusting to this change in the accounting industry. This research provides perspective and deeper insight into the effects of the CPA exam to come out in 2024. The goal of my research was to gain more knowledge about the new exam and to help provide a guide for other accounting students, accounting professors, and accounting professionals about clearer expectations and the impacts the CPA exam has in all different areas throughout the accounting industry. My research methodology consisted of conducting eighteen interviews across two different groups, accounting professors and department chairs, as well as accounting professionals. My results suggested that CPA exam candidates should take the Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) exam, before 2024, if possible, to avoid taking the new discipline exams. In addition, it is important for universities to not teach directly to the CPA exam but still make sure students are well prepared. In conclusion, the industry needs to constantly evolve in terms of technology and analytics, and colleges and universities must teach students these topics about technology and analytics in the accounting industry
Effectively Influencing Personal Financial Management and Financial Preparedness Among Athletes
Professional athletes live the dream of millions of people when they sign their first contract to be paid to play sports. For many athletes, they are coming into money that many have never seen before. Handling this money can prove difficult for athletes from a personal finance standpoint, and it is imperative for them to utilize the support systems around them. However, the support systems need to be readily available to the athlete for there to be a significant impact on the budgeting and investing practices of the athlete. Empowering an athlete to take full advantage of their time in college can help them prepare for a successful post-college career in what they do best
Special Needs Financial Planning Case Studies: Evaluation of Three Financial Services Business Models\u27 Approaches to Client Needs
Special needs financial planning is the process and organization of a financial plan for a family with a child or children with a disability. A key aspect of special needs financial planning is planning for the life of a child with a disability after the death of their parents. Failing to conduct financial planning for such a family could leave the child with a disability relying on state-provided services with a poor quality of life. The following research outlines how four business models will approach a family with a special needs dependent. The four business models are a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), a self-service robo-advisor (Robo), and a wirehouse. Additionally, the services offered by a bank’s wealth management department will be discussed but not thoroughly analyzed. This paper aims to determine which financial planning business model is best suited to support a family with a child with a disability. This research will help the financial industry and financial professionals better meet client objectives, such as the needs of families with children with disabilities
