Learning from young people in Port Harcourt and Bayelsa, Nigeria, about their experiences of depression: a discussion space report
Recently, we reported a morning-long discussion (held 7th February 2023) that we held with a group of youth currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa, and self-identifying as Black African (Levine et al., 2023). Black African young people in South Africa typically have the least access to mental health supports, given South Africa’s Apartheid history and ongoing racialised inequity. We wanted to understand their lived experiences and observations of the risks and influences that make African young people vulnerable to elevated levels of depression (i.e., strong feelings of hopelessness, despondency, and sadness). While young people can experience other mental health challenges, our narrow interest in depression was prompted by the knowledge that youth depression is a global emergency, particularly in under-resourced contexts such as Africa (Sankoh et al., 2018), and that African youth are typically under-represented in mental health studies (Steel et al., 2022). Given our long-standing and enduring attention to human resilience since the early 2010s (Theron, 2016; Theron et al., 2013; Theron & Ungar, 2023; Ungar, 2011, 2018, 2021; Ungar & Theron, 2020), we were also interested in learning what young people believed might support youth resilience to mitigate or counter these risks. Finally, we were curious about young people’s thoughts on the value of an empirical study that would produce insight into how best to protect young people living in Africa against elevated levels of depression

We investigate the total of the CO2 emission produced by private jets taken by Taylor Swift acrossher 2023 US Eras tour.This totalled 52.3 thousand kg of CO2 which is equivalent to 6.20 GWof power. Additionally, we explored the implementation of wind turbine-like turnstiles across thistour to see how much power could be generated back by her fans. We found that with 1.96 millionpeople only 540 kW would be generated, equating to 0.00872% of the power used for private jettravel
'This Happened to Us for the Second Time': War-preparedness, Risk, Responsibility and the Evacuation of Donbas Museums in 2022
Museums in Ukraine’s Donbas region have endured a protracted war since 2014: many were occupied, looted, and re-established in Ukrainian government-controlled territory, leaving behind collections. Against the backdrop of the events of 2014, this paper offers a brief analysis of how museums attempted to safeguard and evacuate their collections when Russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Identifying key factors behind the widespread lack of successful evacuations, the paper touches on the social and financial cost of contingency planning, the distribution of responsibilities and resources, institutional bottlenecks, and altered perceptions of risk in war-affected areas
The Biology of The Doctor
The Doctor is estimated to be over 2000 years old. Although humanoid in appearance The Doctor is of a different species entirely, Time Lords, Dominus temporis [1]. Humans and Time Lords share many similar physiological and genomic traits but they also massively differ. We cannot dissect or sequence the genome of Time Lords therefore we must use examples found in nature to explain some of the traits Time Lords and The Doctor have. This paper looks at these examples and how they explain certain features found in Time Lords.
Issues associated with the formation of the ocean by SCP-045
Within the creative writing universe of the SCP Foundation, SCP-045 is an object that formed the Earth’s oceans through magical conversion of gaseous nitrogen to liquid water. This conversion would require a large mass of gaseous nitrogen, as well as enough time for it to be converted. It also requires SCP-045 to be continuously supplied with new gaseous nitrogen. This paper discusses some of the different environmental constraints on SCP-045’s ability to convert enough nitrogen into liquid water to form Earth’s entire ocean
How hot is a hypersonic vampire?
In the light novel series Monogatari, the legendary vampire Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade once travelled to Antarctica, wanting to see the aurora australis. To leave the continent, without a destination in mind, she jumped with such force such that the recoil threatened to destroy the landmass of Antarctica. Travelling at hypersonic speeds, and coincidently landing in an unknown Japanese lake caused the entire volume of water ‘to disappear’. No process is completely efficient, and assuming this jump generated a great amount of heat, this paper finds that Kiss-Shot would have been hot enough to vaporise any inland volume of water in Japan.
Can Eun Bo's Silver Chopsticks Really Detect Poisons?
The Korean drama, Queen: Love and War, is set in the Joseon era of Korea, and stars Eun Bo; after the death of her sister, she enters the selection to become the new queen so that she has the power to find who killed her sister. As the final selection task, she and the other girls are asked what they would sacrifice to become the queen, and she volunteers her silver cutlery that she claims can detect poison. This paper explores this idea by identifying potential poisons that Eun Bo could have been faced with, and evaluating whether silver cutlery could detect them effectively
The Na’vi species, an explanation for stripes and could humans possibly have them?
This paper will give an overview to why there are two different colours of skin present in the Na’vi indigenous species that live on Pandora. The sequel film named ‘The Way of Water’ shows a second tribe on Pandora named the Metkayina which have a turquoise green colour instead of the traditional blue skin tribe called the Omaticaya tribe. However, both tribes also have stripes present which could be linked to Blaschko lines which are present in humans due to a result of foetus cell development in the womb, visible in people with mosaic skin conditions
