P2 1 Dragon Punch: Science of the Shoryuken
We investigate the speed at which the character Ken Masters, from Street Fighter, must perform his Shoryuken move in order for flames to ignite on his fist. It was found that he would need to punch upward at Mach 1.96, or 672.28 m/s. Furthermore, he would experience 13163.26 g’s and would need to consume 100 servings of spaghetti bolognese (Ken’s favourite meal) for the energy required to perform the move
P3 5 Estimating Hubble's Constant with Redshift
Since the discovery of the expanding universe, there have been numerous attempts to determineHubble’s constant H_0. In this paper we attempt to estimate Hubble’s constant using knownrelationships between expansion and redshift. We found H_0 = 1 × 10−10 s^−1, which is 8 orders ofmagnitude greater than the accepted value of H_0 = 2.27 × 10−18 s^−1. Reasons for this discrepancy such as a simplistic model and inclusion of the cosmological constant are outlined in the discussion
A3 3 Clarkson's Chernobyl Incident
This paper investigates the effectiveness of Jeremy Clarkson’s method of opening his car boot to run out of fuel before arriving in Chernobyl. We use air resistance and power equations to find that with the boot open, the car uses 6.83 l/hr when travelling at 110 km/hr. This is an approximate 85% increase to the normal efficiency of the car

We investigate if it would be possible to boil water from room temperature with a hair dryer, and the time taken to do this. We also explore the energy transfers associated with this. We conclude that it is possible to do this, taking a time of 235 seconds

If the Universal production logo appeared above the Earth and was modelled to be a single, solid, geostationary, silver sphere, a person on Earth facing this new moon would feel a gravitational pull of 3.32 ms−2 and a pull of 0.87 ms−2 on the opposite side of the Earth. This near 400% difference would cause a permanent tidal bulge on the close side and change the landscape of Earth

In this paper, we examine Genshin Impact’s Raiden Shogun’s ability to split a mountain in half and simulate the resultant plasma from the release of 1.7×1023J of energy. Our models suggest that the large pressure gradient primarily drives the cooling of this plasma, overshadowing other radiative processes
How loud would a footballer need to shout to defend a shot?
During the 2-0 victory over rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal's Benjamin White was spotted shouting at an attacking player as a means of last-ditch defending. This paper assumes that shouting was an effective means of defending, and calculates an estimate of how loud the shout would need to be to force the ball to roll quicker, causing the shot to go askew. White would have had to shouted at an unphysical value 157.8dB, comparable to the sound of a military jet taking off, in order to defend using his vocal cords
Hacking the Museum: Mandela27 – A Democratic DIY Pop-Up Installation
In Mandela27 the museum was ‘hacked’ to create a democratic Do-it-Yourself (DIY) pop-up exhibition, inspired by the story of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration. The installation tells the story of the journey from apartheid to democracy and reconciliation in South Africa through a 360 video, archival photographs, a digital game and an interactive timeline – all displayed from within a symbolic reconstruction of Mandela’s cell in Robben Island Prison.The project succeeded in involving a range of diverse audiences, including visitors from under-represented social groups, through its design as a low-cost, pop-up physical/digital installation. It was the design of Mandela27 that allowed it to be made available and freely accessible online across Europe and South Africa, where it has been displayed in multiple ways by local communities. Since 2015, the installation has been exhibited at over 50 venues to over 184,000 people and was still touring in 2023
Exploding the Mayor
One of Buffy’s most challenging foes was the mayor, also known as Richard Wilikins, who was a sorcerer whose main ambition was becoming a pure demon. Once in demon form, as a Olvikan, he would almost be unstoppable. Previously the demon had been killed by a volcanic explosion and, on the Day of Ascension, Buffy used dynamite to kill him. This paper explores how much dynamite would be needed recreate an explosion the size of the volcano and the impact this would have in Sunnydale
Scream 2’s Screams to Screen Scream 6
Randy, a character, from Scream 2 acknowledges that the sequel of a horror film has more of everything than in the original. Considering this increased amplification Scream 2 was considered as a possible fuel to screen Scream 6, except based solely on the screams in Scream 2 and the length of those screams. From calculating intensity and power of the total screams in the film, which were 58, the power turned out to be 8,264,529,160 W and this power is enough to screen Scream 6 and the other films in the franchise at least once; 1,366,313 screenings of Scream 6 can be powered with all the screams in Scream 2
