Media framing: a comparative study of Polis Diraja Malaysia portrayal in Berita Harian online and the star online
Each media has its own agenda in delivering news and information to the public. Although previous studies have focused a lot on the media agenda and its impact on the audience, there is still less research conducted on the media agenda on public agencies in Malaysia, especially those focused on the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM). A study on the framing of news related to PDRM was carried out considering that PDRM is one of the public agencies responsible for ensuring security in the country. Thus, it is important to understand the media's agenda in reporting news related to PDRM to ensure the integrity of PDRM can be strengthened through the framing of news carried out by the media. In an effort to identify the media's agenda in delivering news about PDRM, this study compares the differences in media framing and the factors that influence media framing by two major newspapers, Berita Harian and The Star. Agenda Setting Theory and Framing Theory have been used to investigate the media agenda and media framing in delivering PDRM-related news. This study uses a qualitative method which is divided into two phases, the first phase is content analysis and also the second phase by implementing the interview method to obtain more detailed and in-depth research data. For the first phase, a content analysis was carried out on news about PDRM broadcast by Berita Harian and The Star for a period of six months. The data obtained was classified according to the date the news was published (to test the frequency), the theme displayed, and the segment used to publish the news. While for the second phase, a total of four media practitioners were identified and interviewed to obtain information related to the media agenda and the factors that influence the framing of PD RM-related news by the two media organizations. The results of the study show that Berita Harian and The Star have different media framing. The findings of the study also show that these two media have different positions in conveying information related to PDRM. This is proven in terms of the frequency of broadcasting, the selection of themes and PDRM-related news segments by Berita Harian and The Star. This study has shown that the media has the power to shape the agenda and highlight the desired issues to readers

SMEs capabilities & performance: The moderating role of environmental turbulence
Small medium enterprises (SMEs) act as an engine of economic growth, poverty reduction, and employment creation through new business ventures in any economy. The main objective of this study was to examine the relationship among entrepreneurial orientation, learning orientation, financial literacy, access to finance, entrepreneurial business networks, and SME performance in Pakistan. Furthermore, environmental turbulence was used as a moderating variable between the independent and dependent variables. To fulfill the objective of this study, data were collected from selected Textile SMEs operating in Pakistan. This study employed the simple random sampling technique. The unit of analysis in this was the firms, which were SMEs in Pakistan and the owner/manager of the SMEs were the participants. Five hundred (500) questionnaires were distributed to SMEs owner/manager, but only 379 were deemed usable and completed. The high response rate of 75 percent was achieved due to the survey instrument being personally distributed by the researchers. SPSS 25 software was used to synchronize the data and Smart PLS 2.0 was used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that firm capabilities (LO, FL, AF, and EBN) have a positive and significant effect on SMEs' performance except for EO. Moreover, environmental turbulence (ET) moderates the relationship between EO, LO, AF, EBN, and SMEs performance except for FL. This study concluded that firm capabilities (EO, LO, FL, AF, and EBN) are significantly important for small and medium-sized enterprises and contribute to their overall performance. This study contributes to the extant literature on how ET moderates firm capabilities and SME performance relationships. The research also contributes to RBV and Contingency theories and provides important guidance for managers, researchers, and policymakers in developing strategies. In this study, performance was measured subjectively, while future research could use objective measures of performance
Financial performance and efficiency of cooperatives in Malaysia
Cooperatives are organisations that are created jointly by participants to meet their economic needs and interests. The role of cooperatives in Malaysia cannot be denied since it consists in the Malaysian financial system. However, the performance of cooperatives in Malaysia in term of turnover is still low compared to the other countries. This will be a cause for concern because inadequacies of financial decision lead to failure of cooperatives. Therefore, the study aims to evaluate the financial performance and efficiency of cooperatives in Malaysia. The study utilized the data from Malaysian Cooperative Commission. A total of 15 cooperatives that listed in 100 best cooperatives in all consecutive years from 2010 to 2017 were assessed in this study. Five basic financial ratios utilized in this study in order to examine to what extent the financial performance of cooperatives in Malaysia. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is used to evaluate the efficiency of the cooperatives. Tobit Analysis also utilized in this study to determine factors that influence efficiency of cooperatives. The results found that liquidity ratio is still low and cooperatives that score the highest liquidity ratio may be due to the age of establishment. In overall, the study found that Malaysian co-operatives had been performing better because of the scale of its operation instead of good managerial performance. The result also demonstrates that scale efficiency (SE) dominated pure technical efficiency (PTE), which means that the scale and size of co- operatives are significant in raising the level of scale efficiency. The management of co- operatives in Malaysia should enhance their managerial performance because the PTE was found to contribute less to overall technical efficiency (OTE)

Nonlinear control strategies for chaotic and hyperchaotic synchronization of first order systems of ordinary differential equations
Chaos synchronization is a process that can establish similar responses of two or more chaotic or hyperchaotic systems for different initial conditions using feedback controllers. Past study developed controllers that use larger feedback gains to increase synchronization speed. Even though large feedback gains can reduce errors and convergence time, they cause oscillations in the system state variables when the synchronization errors converge to zero. These oscillations take longer to plateau and give rise to erroneous system behavior, thus slowing the rate of convergence. Most feedback controllers eliminate nonlinear terms in the closed-loop system which jeopardizes robust performance. In this thesis, the main objective is to construct nonlinear controllers that can produce oscillation-free, faster, and robust synchronization of chaotic and hyperchaotic systems of first order differential equations, while retaining the nonlinear terms in the systems. Using Lyapunov stability theory, the controllers are designed to achieve synchronization for systems with known and unknown parameters. A comparison study is conducted to verify the performance of the controllers in reducing convergence time and oscillation. Therefore, three novel controllers embedded with hyperbolic tangent functions are proposed: nonlinear and finite-time synchronization controllers for systems with known parameters, and adaptive synchronization controllers for systems with unknown parameters. The findings showed that the proposed controllers performed better than past controllers in reducing the convergence time and oscillations. Furthermore, the controllers are robust due to their ability to preserve the nonlinear terms in the systems. Hence, the proposed controllers can potentially be used as a basis for secure communication
