    Get PDF
The escalating energy consumption in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) necessitates immediate action for conservation. As WSNs are deployed across various applications, increased energy demands have adversely impacted operational efficiency, network lifetime, and sustainability. Thus, it is crucial to explore strategies to minimize energy consumption and optimize WSN performance. This study focuses on analyzing and enhancing routing algorithms in Bluetooth Mesh Low Power Node (M-LPN) and WSN, with an emphasis on energy efficiency. The study also explores the criteria for node formation and selection, proposing a multi-criterion, energyefficient routing mechanism that takes into account security and sets directions for future research. This research assesses the efficacy of routing algorithms within the Bluetooth M-LPNWSN architecture. It evaluates system formation methods, hierarchical structures, and leader selection criteria, comparing various parameters to identify factors influencing node formation and routing. The multi-criterion energyefficient routing mechanism uses the ACO algorithm, inspired by ants' foraging behaviour. In Bluetooth M-LPNWSN systems, virtual ants explore paths based on signal robustness, distances, and energy consumption. Pheromone trails mark efficient routes, reinforcing paths with higher pheromone concentrations. This optimizes data transmission, enhances energy efficiency, and extends network longevity. The ACO algorithm integrates multiple criteria, ensuring routes are short and energy-efficient. The ACO algorithm in the Bluetooth M-LPNWSN system reduces energy consumption by 60% over 500 iterations and significantly improves data delivery rates by adapting dynamically to network topology and traffic. Compared to the Ant Colony Optimization-Genetic Algorithm (ACO-GA) and Ant Colony Optimization- Hierarchical Clustering Mechanism (ACOHCM), the ACO algorithm shows superior power savings and efficiency. Future research will focus on developing a Software Defined Networking (SDN) management framework, optimizing power management strategies, and exploring diverse network environments to enhance the adaptability and performance of wireless sensor networks

Integrating discrete event simulation and data envelopment analysis for performance measurement and efficency evaluation of resource configurations in an outpatient clinic

    No full text
Health care facilities, especially outpatient clinics, are the main source of medical care and treatment for the population. To provide quality services, facilities must perform their work optimally. System performance, such as patient wait time, patient cycle time, and throughput, can be measured using discrete event simulation (DES). DES replicates facility structures and behaviour and provides a platform for measuring the impact of operational alternatives (resource configurations) on system performance. However, current tools from DES do not identify the best resource configurations for future implementation. Therefore, this research develops a DES model for an outpatient clinic and evaluates the effectiveness of a range of possible resource configurations to improve system performance. The Kesihatan Changlun clinic was considered as a case study. Relevant data, such as patient arrival time, resource service time, and patient flow were observed and collected. The information was then fed into the DES model, which was designed and developed using Arena software. The model was used to measure clinic performance and verify that the clinic was operating efficiently. Actual performance was then determined by testing the various resource configurations. Their relative efficiency was evaluated using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). To rank the efficient configurations, cross-efficiency analysis DEA was used. The analysis of the results showed that the Kesihatan Changlun clinic is efficient. However, performance can be further improved by allocating an appropriate number of resources to relevant processes. This research helps decision makers to effectively manage their healthcare facilities by finding the best resource configuration

Factors Influencing Adoption of Accrual Based International Public Sector Accounting Standards and Impacts on Quality of Financial Reporting in the UAE Public Sector

    No full text
Financial reporting in the public sector is important for the UAE as it ensures transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. This transparency is essential for maintaining public trust and confidence in government institutions, promoting good governance practices, and facilitating decision-making to achieve long-term development goals. The adoption of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) has been instrumental in enhancing the transparency and consistency of financial reporting, ultimately leading to improved decision-making and accountability. This study aims to examine the impacts of different independent variables of IPSAS adoption on the quality of financial reporting in Dubai, while also considering the mediating effect of IPSAS adoption. The proposed conceptual framework incorporates seven independent variables: top management support, knowledge and experience, training, implementation cost, external pressure, availability of expertise, and technology, in addition to IPSAS adoption as a mediator. Furthermore, both Agency theory and Institutional theory support the proposed conceptual framework. The study’s population consists of accountants and auditors, both internal and external, engaged in periodic bookkeeping and financial statement reporting in accordance with IPSAS standards within Dubai’s public organisations. There are approximately 43 public entities in Dubai, resulting in a potential respondent pool of 430 possible respondents. Data collection was conducted in 2022, resulting in a final dataset comprising 232 responses. The analysis of the study’s hypotheses revealed that six hypotheses were not supported. These include two direct relationships for quality of financial reporting, two direct relationships for IPSAS adoption, and two mediating relationships. Notably, three of the rejected hypotheses pertain to the cost of implementation. For decision-makers in Dubai and beyond, this study contributes by highlighting the significance of external pressure in driving IPSAS adoption and, consequently, improving financial reporting quality. Interestingly, the study reveals that the cost of implementation is not a significant factor affecting the quality of financial reporting. The findings also contribute to academic literature by providing empirical evidence from an emerging country, examining IPSAS adoption as a mediator, and proposing a refined model for understanding the relationship between IPSAS adoption and the quality of financial reporting. Future studies are encouraged to replicate this model in different countries to facilitate generalization and comparison. Additionally, future studies could delve into the reasons behind the rejection of the cost of implementation by experts interviews
