The relationship between management commitment, safety knowledge, safety motivation and safety performance among Malaysian Army crews
Accidents occuring during work are among the contributing factors to the high rate of injuries among workes in Malaysia, particularly in the construction and manufacturing industries. Such incidents have also involve the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), affecting personnel, equipment and valuable assets which could impact the overall readiness and national defense strategies. This study was conducted in relation to aspects of compliance with safety and health in the environment of the crew of armoured vehicles of the Army. The research design employed was descriptive and cross-sectional. A quantitative approach was used, involving a questionnaire survey conducted among members of the Third Regiment of the Royal Armor Corps (3 KAD). A total of 169 sets of questionnaires were distributed to obtain data for this study and analyzed through the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 29 software through descriptive analysis and pearson correlation analysis. Feedback from the results of the study basically shows that there is a significant positive relationship between Management Commitment, Safety Knowledge and Safety Motivation with Safety Performance to maintain and improve the safety of armoured vehicle crews in 3 KAD. The findings imply that to enhance safety performance among armoured vehicle crews, organizations should prioritize visible management commitment by consistently supporting safety initiatives, allocating adequate resources, and strictly enforcing safety policies to build a culture of trust and accountability. Additionally, improving safety knowledge through structured training and continuous learning opportunities can better equip soldiers to identify hazards and follow proper procedures. Strengthening safety motivation by reinforcing the value of safe behavior and recognizing proactive safety actions can further encourage soldiers to adhere to safety protocols and actively minimize operational risks. This study provides clear evidence that Management Commitment, Safety Knowledge, and Safety Motivation play significant roles in shaping the Safety Performance of armoured vehicle crews
The moderating role of key factors in shaping e-wallet acceptance among Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) employees
This study investigates the factors influencing the acceptance of e-wallet applications among staff at Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB), with a specific focus on the moderating effect of social influence. Grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and supported by Maqasid Shariah and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the study evaluates the effects of perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), and religiosity (R) on e-wallet acceptance. Additionally, it explores how social influence (SI) moderates these relationships. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected from 169 BIMB employees across 13 branches in Northern Malaysia through structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SPSS and SmartPLS. The results revealed that PU and religiosity significantly influence the acceptance of e-wallet applications, whereas PEOU does not. Furthermore, social influence does not significantly moderate the relationships between PEOU, PU, religiosity, and e-wallet acceptance. These findings suggest that while functional benefits and Shariah compliance are critical to adoption, ease of use and social influence play a lesser role within this Islamic banking context. The study contributes to the existing literature by integrating religious perspectives into established technology acceptance models and provides practical implications for Islamic financial institutions seeking to promote digital financial solutions aligned with Islamic values
Robust backpropagation neural network using date palm seed growth algorithm for stock market prediction
Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN) is one of the most commonly used models for stock market prediction due to its ability as universal estimators. However, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS)-based training in BPNN leads to nonrobust weightage estimates in the presence of outliers. Consequently, it affects the prediction performance of the BPNN model. Addressing this issue, this study proposes an alternative approach by replacing OLS with Date Palm Seed Growth Least Median Squares (DPSG-LMedS) algorithm. This approach aims to improve the prediction accuracy at different levels of data contamination in stock market. DPSG-LMedS involve five phases which are training the network iteratively by minimizing the median of estimated errors, removing outliers based on robust standard deviation, retraining on the cleaned data, and stopping once the best LMedS errors meet the setting criteria. Next, the model performance is evaluated using simulated and real data. In simulation analysis, the accuracy of the new model is assessed based on different levels of data contamination (0% to 65%), input lags (5 to 45), and hidden node (5 to 45) configurations. Real data of FBM KLCI stock market closing prices is used to compared the performance of the new model with BPNN and BPNN with LMedS. The best-performing model is determined based on the lowest values of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Geometric Root Mean Square Error (GRMSE). Results from simulated analysis shows that the new model performed well at all levels of data contamination with configuration moderate lags input and lowest hidden nodes. Comparison using real data indicate that the new model outperformed other models. This new model offers a more reliable predicting model and is expected to support investors, economists, policymakers, and financial institutions in making more accurate and informed decisions. Additionally, it contributes to the development of robust neural network techniques for financial prediction applications
An extended ixd-based digital graphic novels: capturing aesthetic values and measures into the design
Digital Graphics Novel (DGN) has gained its reputation in recent years based on its benefits. This study explores the theoretical parts of DGNs, which make them a valuable resource in research and information sharing. Currently, DGN is developed without realising its impact on aesthetic values. This study is motivated by the limited local content that focuses on proper interaction design (IxD) theory. The main objective is to develop an extended IXD-based DGN by capturing its aesthetic values. This research covers four phases, starting from the literature study, model extension, and validation of IxD-based DGN model using expert evaluation, design and development of the DGN archetype, comprising a DGN container and archetype, and lastly, evaluation on the aesthetic values of IxD-based DGN using Birkhoff’s Aesthetic Measure (BAM). The evaluation process is based on the values and components derived from the data collection process using the qualitative research method. In general, findings from this study summarise the current literature and identify the aesthetic values and components that are synthesised in an extended model for IxD-based DGN that could impact the design of appealing DGN products. In conclusion, this study presents an extended model for IxD-based DGN, incorporating aesthetic measures using the BAM. The extended model serves as a guideline for researchers in interaction design and practitioners and is complemented by a research outline with several opportunities to further explore aesthetic values in DGN desig

Enhancing organizational performance through organizational agility and innovation: a study of Dubai's public institutions
This study aims to examine the role of institutional agility and management innovation in developing and improving organizational performance in government institutions in Dubai. Indeed, institutional agility and transformative innovation are of great importance in achieving the aspirations of Dubai government in advancing the reality of organizational performance in government institutions. The problem of the study appears in the difficulties faced by government institutions in the Emirate of Dubai in keeping pace with the requirements of the large population diversity and the broad movement of non-citizens. This requires all the institutions to enjoy institutional agility and management innovation in achieving the best levels of management performance (planning, organizing, directing control). Questionnaires were created according to the guidelines from the previous works and modified to match the study conditions. The research involves all employees at government institutions in Dubai, with 306 collected samples out of 439 distributed questionnaire sets. There were two independent variables in this study: Institutional Agility (IA) and Administrative Innovation (AI), as well as four dependent variables representing different dimensions of organizational performance (OP) and administrative processes encompassing Planning (AP), Organizing (AO), Leading (AL), and Controlling (AC) within government institutions in Dubai. The results indicate that on average, respondents perceive the Administrative Innovation Variable (AI) is significant for the development and enhancement of organizational performance in government institutions in Dubai. This suggests positive perceptions among respondents towards this variable, reflecting their consensus on the crucial role of guidance in improving organizational performance. Similarly, the results indicate agreement among respondents regarding the role of Controlling (AC) in fostering and enhancing organizational performance in government institutions in Dubai. These collective findings underscore a high level of approval from the respondents, highlighting the importance of these factors in their overall satisfaction. Furthermore, these figures imply that the variables are reliable and consistent in measuring their intended aspects. The study recommends conducting similar studies using different methodology such as the qualitative approach, which may use additional variables that may not have been included in the current research
The influence of interpersonal and intercultural communication on employees’ perceived quality of the work environment in the banking sector.
The banking sector in Malaysia faces growing challenges in workplace communication due to its fast-paced operations and multicultural workforce. Interpersonal communication issues such as unclear instructions and lack of feedback affect collaboration, while intercultural communication barriers, like language differences, tone misinterpretation, and cultural misunderstandings, further complicate workplace dynamics. These problems can negatively influence employees’ perceived quality of the work environment. Therefore, to address these concerns, this study aimed to examine how interpersonal and intercultural communication impact employees’ perceived quality of the work environment in Malaysian banking institutions. A cross-sectional, quantitative design was employed, where data were collected through structured questionnaires from 420 banking employees in the banking sector, yielding a substantial response rate. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Descriptive statistics, including means and frequency distributions, were utilized to summarize demographic information and responses related to interpersonal and intercultural communication, as well as employees’ perceived quality of the work environment. For inferential analysis, Spearman’s rank correlation was employed to examine the direction of relationships between interpersonal and intercultural communication variables and perceived quality of the work environment. Additionally, multiple regression analysis was conducted to assess the predictive impact of interpersonal and intercultural communication on employees’ perceived quality of the work environment in Malaysian banking institutions. Findings supported both hypotheses, indicating that interpersonal and intercultural communication have significant positive effects on employees’ perceived quality of the work environment. The findings suggest that improving both types of communication can enhance employees’ perceived quality of the work environment. This study is significant for bank managers and HR practitioners seeking to build inclusive, communicative environments
Factors influencing stress among postgraduate students at Universiti Utara Malaysia
The academic experience of postgraduate students is full of challenges which can potentially push the boundaries of acceptable stress levels. In turn, excessive stress can affect academic productivity and wellbeing. This study investigates the reason(s) for stress among postgraduate students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) that are related to their academic environment, social life, and physical attributes. This research draws on the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping propounded by Lazarus and Folkman in 1984 which bases its approach on cognitive appraisal and coping strategies as the central pillars for dealing with stress. A quantitative approach was used, and data were gathered using a structured survey questionnaire from the sample population of 200 postgraduate students. Stress and its determinants were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analyses. Stressors stemming from coursework, research, and engagement with supervisors have been associated with the highest levels of stress. Other social aspects, such as relationships with peers, family, and finances also impact well-being significantly. In addition, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and other health issues exacerbate stress even more. These results imply that not only academic pressure, but also students’ perceptions and coping strategies play a role in stress. This aids in further understanding the wellbeing of postgraduate students and emphasizes the importance of universities devising specific support strategies. Universities need to develop clear policies for providing academic guidance, as well as promoting healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress, including timely mental health treatment. If these stressors are properly addressed, universities will create a supportive educational climate, increase student retention rates, as well as improve academic performance
The impact of sustainable Islamic banking financing for infrastructure projects on Malaysia’s economic growth
Infrastructure is widely recognized as a catalyst for economic development in many countries; however, a significant funding gap persists. Alternative funding sources are required to address this deficit. Islamic finance presents one such alternative for infrastructure funding. Consequently, this study examines the impact of sustainable Islamic banking financing for infrastructure projects on Malaysia’s economic growth. The research employs a quantitative methodology utilizing Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) analysis to examine the long-run and short-run relationships between Islamic infrastructure financing in economic, environmental, and social sectors and Malaysia’s real Gross Domestic Products (GDP) using quarterly data from the first quarter of 2015 to the second quarter of 2024. The economic sectors include transportation and storage, and information and communication technology (ICT). The environmental sectors encompass electric, gas, and steam, and agriculture, forestry, and fishing. The social sectors comprise education, and human health and social work. The findings reveal that Islamic infrastructure financing in the transportation and storage, and ICT sectors demonstrates a positive but statistically insignificant effect on economic growth in the long run. Electric, gas, and steam financing also exhibits a positive but insignificant long-run impact, while agriculture, forestry, and fishing financing presents a negative and insignificant long-run effect. Notably, Islamic financing for education, and human health and social work sectors exhibits a positive and statistically significant long-run relationship with economic growth. The short-run analyses yield heterogeneous results across different lags for all sectors. Robustness checks utilizing FMOLS, DOLS, and CCR models corroborate the ARDL findings. The study elucidates the potential of Islamic financing from Islamic banking in promoting sustainable infrastructure development and economic growth, with implications for policymakers, Islamic financial institutions, and investors. It also identifies areas for future research, such as cross-country comparisons and sector-specific analyses
