    Get PDF
This study focused on the issue of settling administrative contract disputes in international commercial arbitration. In May 2018, the government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) approved the Federal Law No. (6) of 2018 on Arbitration. Recent economic developments led to an increase in international contracts and interest in international arbitration, due to the ease and flexibility that international arbitration provides in international transactions. Generally, the aim of resorting to arbitration was to seek for protection and gain profits while ensuring integrity, transparency and impartiality in the Court of Arbitration, and what may arise from the changes required by the economic policy of the state, especially the legislation related to economic development. The study discussed the subject of international arbitration in the UAE, with a focus on how the international arbitration award in international administrative contracts was issued and appealed according to the Arbitration Law 6-2018. The researcher used the comparative analytical method to achieve the objectives of the study, by analysing the Emirati legal texts and relevant international laws. The study concluded that UAE legislators considered the possibility of resorting to arbitration as an alternative method of resolving administrative contract disputes based on the provisions of the Arbitration Law 6-2018. Finally, the study recommended that some legal texts regarding the selection of the law applicable to the international dispute be added to the internal arbitration law

A semantic conceptualization on tagged bag-of concepts to improve accuracy for sentiment Analysis

    Get PDF
Sentiment could be expressed implicitly or explicitly in a text. The main challenge in sentiment analysis (SA) is to identify hidden sentiments. This challenge is even worsened by false classification of opinion words, neglect of context information, and poor handling of short texts. This study addresses the limitations of bag-of-words (BoW) and bag-of-concepts (BoC) text representations, in contextual and conceptual semantic methods. A semantic conceptualization method using Tagged BoC (TBoC) for SA is proposed to detect the correct sentiment towards the actual target that considers all affective and conceptual information conveyed in a text with a special focus on short text. The TBoC is an approach that analyses and decomposes text to uncover latent sentiments while preserving all relations and vital information to boost SA accuracy. In addition, the most efficient lexicons and pre-processing techniques are investigated in improving the accuracy of SA. This study comprises four phases: a) data collection and pre-processing, b) concepts extraction from text data using conceptualization method, c) documents deconstruction into TBoC using Long Short- Term Memory, Convolutional Neural Network, Latent Dirichlet Allocation, Rulebased, and customized algorithms, and d) sentiment classification on multiple benchmarking datasets. A comparative study was also conducted with state-of-the-art SA methods to evaluate the proposed approach using general-purpose and domainspecific sentiment lexicons on multiple SA levels including document, aspect, category, and topic levels. The TBoC technique with domain-specific sentiment lexicon has shown good performance and outperformed other state-of-the-art methods. Accuracy results indicated an improvement of 2%, 3%, and 6% compared to Naïve Bayes, Neural Networks, and Support Vector Machine respectively for aspect-level SA. The use of TBoC within the semantic conceptualization has high capabilities in concept extraction while preserving information on the context, interrelations, and latent feelings. Thus, contributing knowledge in SA and into the lexicon-based and hybrid approaches

The Malaysian telecommunications sector has been a very competitive and challenging business environment. Telecommunications companies (Telcos) must be aggressive, innovative, and viable to achieve Malaysia’s goal of becoming a developed country. However, Telekom Malaysia lagged behind other competitors due to a high number of customer complaints and low employee productivity, which impacted business performance. This study aims to examine the effect of internal marketing on employees’ productivity and business performance and to explore the mediating role of employees’ productivity on the relationship between internal marketing and business performance in Telekom Malaysia. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires from 1150 respondents who are technical employees at Telekom Malaysia and analyzed using correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. In this study, internal marketing factors, namely training and development, strategic rewards, employee empowerment, and internal communication are considered the independent variables, while business performance serves as the dependent variable, and employees’ productivity as the mediator. The results show that three internal marketing factors, namely training and development, strategic rewards, and internal communication, significantly affect employee productivity and business performance of telco. Moreover, employees’ productivity significantly mediates the relationship between internal marketing and business performance. The results show that this aspect is critical for increasing employees’ productivity and business performance. This study employs Internal Marketing Mix and Social Exchange Theory as underlying theories in developing the proposed research framework. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on the importance of employees’ productivity as a mediator between internal marketing and business performance. Telcos should emphasize the importance of providing adequate support to employees, such as training and development, effective communication between employees and management, and attractive rewards to encourage employees’ productivity and improve business performance

    Get PDF
The prime purpose of this research was to investigate the factors that contribute to job performance (JP) of teachers in public sector schools of Punjab Pakistan. Through micro mapping Performance Appraisal Fairness (PAF) and Leader Member Exchange (LMX) were identified as the predictor of Job Performance (JP). Additionally, it has further investigated the mediating role of perception of organizational politics (POP) between PAF and JP and LMX and JP. The study further investigated the moderating role of workplace friendship (WPF) between POP and JP. Social Exchange Theory (SET) has been used as underpinned theory to build the logical relationships between distinct constructs of this research. The survey method used to collect data from 386 academicians from various public schools of Punjab with a response rate of 42.8%. SmartPLS software version 3.3.3 used to analyze the data. The rationale behind using the software is that most of research constructs (PAF, POP, JP) are reflective-formative and reflective-reflective (LMX and WPF) and SmartPLS software can analyze both constructs simultaneously. Findings of the study revealed that PAF is significantly positive related to JP. While, LMX and JP also found to be positively related. Moreover, POP mediate the relationship between LMX and JP. However, the mediation of POP between PAF and JP does not exist. The study found the strong moderation of WPF between POP and JP relationship i.e., the relationship between POP and JP is weak when the WPF is high. The study has also further elaborated the PLS predict value of JP as endogenous variable which shows that endogenous construct (JP) has strong predictive power. The study has signified the importance of JP of teachers for all stakeholders of education industry. Limitation and future recommendations also explained to pave the new ways for educational researchers and psychologists

Economic, social and environmental sustainability reporting is of such importance in current times that United Nations has declared a separate resolution titled ‗Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development‘. Bangladesh, as a signatory country of the resolution, has taken steps to accommodate action plans of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Companies listed on stock exchanges are considered as powerful instruments in bringing changes to the entire business environment of the country. Thus, it is important to examine the sustainability reporting behaviours of these companies to identify the influencing factors behind their reporting practices. This study is underpinned by the agency theory, legitimacy theory and stakeholder theory in explaining sustainability reporting. It examined company characteristics, including corporate posture, company visibility and stakeholder engagement, and the characteristics of corporate governance, namely, size, independence and meetings of board of directors and audit committee. Moreover, the study also looked at the moderation effect of industry regulation on the relationship between audit committee characteristics and sustainability reporting by companies. To conduct the research, 8 years‘ (2011-2018) annual reports of 189 companies had been sampled. An index of 651 items had been adopted from GRI Standards to evaluate the contents of the reports. The analysis results showed that- corporate posture, company visibility, stakeholder engagement, board size, audit committee independence and audit committee meetings had statistically significant roles in explaining the variability in the sustainability-related reporting by Bangladeshi companies. In addition, the presence of industry regulation has proved itself as a strong moderator in the relationship between audit committee characteristics and sustainability reporting. The findings of this research are expected to guide Bangladeshi industry regulators and contribute to the knowledge arena of sustainability reporting in developing countries

    Get PDF
According to the information provided by the Tax Operation Department, all investigation branches in Malaysia’s northern region performed substantially lower than other branches. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate the determinants of effective tax investigation among tax investigation officers in IRBM Investigation Branch, especially those located in the northern region of Malaysia. A sample of 42 respondents was selected based on non-probability judgemental or purposive sampling techniques. The research findings revealed that tax knowledge and skills, tax enforcement strategy, and tax penalty had significant influences on effective tax investigation among IRBM’s investigation officers. Complex tax laws, on the other hand, had no significant impact on effective tax investigation, assuming that the majority of the investigation officers have worked in IRBM for more than ten years and possess sufficient knowledge to interpret complex tax laws. The results of multiple regression analysis also showed that 82.2% of the variance in the effective tax investigation could be accounted for by the independent variables examined. As a result, it was determined that the model used in this study is appropriate and capable of predicting the dependent variables

    Get PDF
Face-to-face restrictions due to the epidemic have created a sudden and urgent need for PTPTN marketing officers to approach existing and potential customers using digital marketing. This study examines the relationship between intention, top management support, information technology infrastructure and individual experience with information technology infrastructure towards the use of digital marketing among marketing officers. A closed questionnaire was developed and distributed online to all marketing officers throughout Malaysia. A total of 259 marketing officers responded to the questionnaire. Descriptive, correlational and regression analyses were conducted. The results showed that the independent variables are related and influences the use of digital marketing among the marketing officers, except for top management support. Although initially the directive to switch to digital marketing came from top management but these marketing officers did not attribute top management support towards their adoption to digital marketing efforts. Most marketing officers harness their skills through their own efforts. This study also suggests the use of other social media applications such as TikTok and Instagram in their social media applications efforts. It is hoped that the use of the latest technology can be a catalyst for transformation to the success of officers and organizations in the future
