Individual factors affecting the acceptance and adoption decisions of internet of things technology in Malaysia universities
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology with the potential to transform many spheres of human activity, including schooling. More and more Malaysian schools are using IoT solutions for tasks including supply tracking, student attendance tracking, and building energy management. However, there is no consistency in how organization adopt technologies associated with the Internet of Things. While some institutions are making hasty transitions to IoT technologies, others are taking their time. An in-depth familiarity with the personal factors that affect the acceptance and deployment of IoT technology in Malaysian institutions is crucial for developing effective strategies and interventions to promote its widespread adoption. Once universities have determined the impact of (1.) social influence and (2.) educational background, they can design targeted initiatives to raise awareness, provide training programmes, and foster a culture of technological innovation among their stakeholders. This paper understands and investigates the individual variables of Social Influence and Educational Background and their impact on the Acceptance and Adoption of IoT technology in Malaysian institutions. It also composes the presentation and analysis of data collected by the researcher for the stud

Semantic-based question answering framework for fuzzy factoid answer from Thai texts
Text is an important human knowledge source. The question-answering system can retrieve the fact from the source of knowledge and provide the answer to the user. Translating the text to the knowledge base is a very challenge task and complicated process. Thai text can be a form of character stream written continuously without any punctuation or marker to separate each word and each sentence in a paragraph. This research is aim to develop a semantic base question-answering framework that can handle the fuzzy factoid and target the knowledge source to Thai text. In building a Thai question-answering system, Thai morphological analysis is an important component to process Thai text. Ellipsis and anaphora resolution in Thai text is also the needed process for constructing the complete fact from Thai text. Thai semantic parser is the core component to construct the knowledge base by extracting the fact from Thai text into the semantic frame structure. The methodology of this research is divided into 4 steps. First is building the accurate Thai morphological analysis: Thai word segmentation and Thai EDU segmentation. The second is to develop the ellipsis and anaphora resolution for Thai text to achieve the goal that is creating the complete fact in Thai EDU segmentation. The third is to develop the semantic parser to build the knowledge base that transforms the Thai text into a semantic frame representation. Forth is developed the answer extraction for the question answering system with fuzzy matching to handle the fuzzy factoid. From the pipeline of the processes, the semanticbased question answering system performs high precision and recall to 0.9892 and 0.9484. In conclusion, anaphora and ellipsis resolution are crucial for achieving precise semantic construction, while fuzzy matching significantly enhances answer extraction recall. Together, these components are essential for building robust "What" and "How many" question answering system

Analisis punca keberhutangan kritikal dan kesannya terhadap integriti dalam kalangan pegawai dan anggota Polis Diraja Malaysia
The problem of indebtedness occurs in all walks of life including public officials. Although rules and policies have been provided to curb this problem in the public sector, however, the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) is not spared from the problem. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify the causes and effects that can occur when Bukit Aman RMP officers and staff are involved in indebtedness. To achieve the objective of the study, primary data was obtained using a questionnaire. Secondary sources were obtained through books, journals, newspapers, official reports, research reports and sources from the Internet. Interviews were also conducted involving officers assigned to monitor the said problem. Respondents among Bukit Aman RMP officers and staff who receive a net salary below 40% were selected using the purposive sampling method. The results of the correlation analysis found that independent variables such as intention, environmental influence and physiology have a significant relationship with indebtedness symptoms among Bukit Aman RMP officers and staff. The results of the multiple regression analysis showed that the main predictor factor that contributes significantly to indebtedness and integrity is the physiological factor. Both analyses proved that the demand to provide basic needs is the main cause of the respondents being involved in indebtedness. When they are faced with this problem, there is a tendency to act in violation of the law and work ethics to settle their debt incurred. Such actions may affect the image and credibility of RMP as the pillar of security and peace in Malaysia. Finally, the serious financial indebtedness problem will harm the integrity of the RMP force. Theoretically, the findings of this study contribute to the use of the institutional roles approach to understand the symptoms of indebtedness based on the Institutional Theory. In terms of practice, the findings of this study can provide empirical evidence to the relevant departments in RMP that it is important to identify the causes and effects of indebtedness problems so that comprehensive actions can be implemented to overcome the proble
The influence of issues of management, government assistance, networking and employee turnover on SME performance in Malaysia : The impact of human capital as a mediator
Despite the significant contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to the Malaysian economy, there is a gap in the literature regarding the impact of management, government assistance, networking, and employee turnover on SME performance, including the mediating role of human capital. This research aims to examine the influence of issues of management, government assistance, networking, and employee turnover on SME performance, and investigate the mediating role of human capital in this relationship. A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 178 Malaysian SME business owners between October 2022 and February 2023. Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. The results show that issues of management and networking have no significant effect on SME performance, whereas government assistance, employee turnover and human capital have significant effects. Effective management practices, lower turnover rates, and investment in human capital development are critical to SME performance. Additionally, constantly improving the quality of human capital can lead to enhanced productivity. Human capital plays a crucial role as a mediator in the relationship between issues of management, government assistance, networking, employee turnover, and SME performance. Thus, continuous training and development programmes is vital for employee's competencies. In terms of theoretical contribution, this study applied the Resource-Based View Theory (RBV) as the underpinning theory and Institution Theory (IT) as the supporting theory in the proposed framework to examine the key factors that influence SME performance in Malaysia. SMEs should prioritise management practices and human capital development to improve their performance and competitiveness in the marke
Enhancing life insurance agents' retention in Malaysia : Leveraging sources of employee support and felt obligation
Retaining talent is a serious issue for companies worldwide, including the life insurance industry, which faces numerous challenges in retaining its employees. However, the relationship between sources of employee support and retention of life insurance agents has received little attention in previous research. This study investigates the influence of sources of employee support, i.e., supervisor support, peer support, technological support, and mentoring, on the retention of life insurance agents. The mediating role of felt obligation in this relationship is also investigated. Using quantitative research method, 265 life insurance agents in the central region of Malaysia completed the online questionnaire. The data was analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships. The results show a positive relationship between all sources of employee support and retention of life insurance agents. When agents perceive higher levels of support from supervisors, peers, technology, and mentors, they are more likely to stay in the industry. Supervisor support is the dominant factor. It significantly enhances job satisfaction, emotional well-being, career development, work environment, role modelling, and communication, providing a solid foundation for long-term retention. However, felt obligation does not mediate the relationship between sources of employee support and retention of life insurance agents, as their decisions to stay are more influenced by the immediate benefits and support they receive. Life insurance providers should adopt higher levels of support from supervisors, peers, technology, and mentors to encourage life insurance agents to stay in the industry. The major theoretical implication of this study is to fill a knowledge gap by investigating how technological support influences retention outcomes through the lens of Social Exchange Theor
Enhancing employee performance in medium manufacturing enterprises in Malaysia : Leveraging HRM practices, ICT usage, employee
Employee performance is becoming increasingly important in optimizing productivity and achieving business goals, including in the manufacturing sector in Malaysia. This study investigates the relationship between human resource (HR) practices (training and development, performance appraisal fairness and mentoring), information and communication technology (ICT) usage, and employee performance in medium manufacturing enterprises (MMEs). The mediating effect of employee engagement and knowledge sharing is also investigated. A total of 301 selfadministered questionnaires were distributed to employees of MMEs in Malaysia. Data was analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLSSEM) approach. The results show that HR practices (training and development, performance appraisal fairness, and mentoring) and ICT usage have a positive and significant impact on employee performance in MMEs. Investing in HRM practices specifically designed for MMEs in Malaysia makes it possible to improve employee performance and increase the success of these companies. Furthermore, employee engagement mediates the relationship between HR practices and employee performance, while knowledge sharing mediates the relationship between ICT usage and employee performance in MMEs. Employee engagement and knowledge sharing are essential factors that contribute significantly in improving employees' performance and productivity alongside HR practices. The study's findings have important practical implications for MMEs. It highlights the crucial role of employee engagement in HR practices and employee performance. MMEs should also encourage greater ICT usage to support knowledge sharing. The proposed research framework draws on social exchange theory to effectively leverage HRM practices, ICT usage, employee engagement, and knowledge sharing. It helps to understand the key factors that impact employee performance in the specific context of MMEs in Malaysi
Enhancing collocation noticing and intake through textual enhancement technique among low-proficiency ESL learners
This study examines the effects of Textual Enhancement (TE) on students' noticing and acquisition of collocations using a mixed-methods design, combining quasiexperiment with focus group interviews. This study investigates the influence of textual enhancement (TE) on the noticing and acquisition of collocation knowledge, with motivational factors as a contributing variable. It also explores the “spillover” effect, assessing whether the impact of partially enhanced collocations extends to unenhanced ones. Additionally, it evaluates the effectiveness enhancement and their lasting impact on low-proficiency learners at a public university in northern Malaysia. Participants are divided into three groups, each reading passages with: (a) fully enhanced collocations (highlighted and bolded), (b) partially enhanced collocations (either highlighted or bolded), and (c) non-enhanced collocations. The mixed-methods design includes a quasi-experiment and focus group interviews, involving 108 participants from three intact classes to ensure consistency across proficiency levels. Each class was randomly assigned to either treatment or control group conditions through draw lots. Focus group interviews were conducted among 12 participants representing high, medium, and low scores. TE technique significantly enhanced students' ability to identify and acquire short-term collocations among low-proficiency L2 learners but had no significant long-term effects. Qualitative findings emphasize the need for clear instruction, regular practice, and interactive methods to support collocation learning. This study contributes to understanding the role of TE in both short and long-term language acquisition, as well as the need for effective pedagogical strategies for teaching collocations in the ESL context. It offers refined and flexible pedagogical guidelines tailored to low-proficiency learners, promoting collocation recognition and retention, as well as learner autonomy through collaborative tasks, and explicit teachin
