Intangible resources and export performance of Malaysian halal F&B SMEs: the mediating role of entrepreneurial orientation
The growing demand for halal food and beverages (F&B) has attracted many firms to enter the global halal market to get their slices of the pie. Consequently, competition in the market has intensified, with multinational corporations holding the lion shares, making it vulnerable for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to be competitive. Thus, this study was set forth to investigate how intangible resources enhanced the export performance of Malaysian SMEs exporting halal F&B products. Additionally, this study attempted to address the gaps in the literature on factors stimulating entrepreneurial orientation and analysed how it functioned as a mediating mechanism in leveraging intangible resources into enhanced export performance. Following these research objectives, a survey was conducted through purposive and census sampling, yielding 187 usable responses. Analyses using the partial least squares structural equation modelling technique (PLS-SEM) revealed that opportunity recognition capability, networking capability, and entrepreneurial orientation directly enhanced SMEs’ export performance. Furthermore, this study identified that international orientation, marketing capability, cultural intelligence, and opportunity recognition capability significantly bolstered SMEs’ entrepreneurial orientation. Finally, in the mediation inquest, this investigation discovered that entrepreneurial orientation significantly mediated the influence of cultural intelligence and opportunity recognition capability on export performance. The findings in this study contribute to the international business, entrepreneurship orientation, and halal literature by enlightening how resource-limited SMEs can thrive in the international halal market using intangible resources as their competitive arsenals. Ultimately, this study offers guidance to policymakers and practitioners involved in the halal F&B sector, particularly in formulating strategies to strengthen Malaysian footholds as the top global halal hub and elevate Malaysia’s economic performance in the halal industr
Examining the mediating role of employee-organization relationship in the relationship between internal public relations practices, organizational culture and online communication behaviours during crisis
Within the framework of online public relations, the significance of online employee communication behaviours is underscored by the understanding that employees are not just the workforce but intrinsic assets. Hence, examining the factors that could potentially affect their online communication behaviours becomes pivotal, especially during crisis. Grounded from the relationship management theory, this study is undertaken to determine factors that could potentially affect online employee communication behaviours during a crisis. The conceptual model was developed by incorporating communication constructs namely symmetrical communication, transparent communication, organizational culture, and employee-organization relationships as the antecedents in this study. Specifically, this study aims to examine the mediating role of employee-organization relationships in the relationship between symmetrical communication, transparent communication, and organizational culture toward online employee communication behaviours. Subsequently, 10 hypotheses were put forward to validate the model of the study. Using the stratified random sampling, a total of 392 nurses from three major public hospitals in Jordan participated in this study. Data was collected via distribution of online questionnaires. The PLS- SEM was used to analyze the data and to test the research hypotheses. The findings reveal that there is a positive relationship between transparent communication and online employee communication behaviours. However, no empirical support found to prove the relationship between symmetrical communication and organizational culture with online employee communication behaviours. The findings also indicated that employee-organization relationships fully mediated the relationship between symmetrical communication, transparent communication, organizational culture, and online employee communication behaviours. Finally, theoretical, and practical contributions, managerial implications, and recommendations for future research are discussed at the end of the study. Apart from enriching the literature, the research contributes to extend and strengthen the relationship management theory by incorporating significant communication constructs into its existing theoretical framework. The implication of the study benefits the employees of the healthcare sector by providing them guidelines to communicate online during crisis
A qualitative study of preventive maintenance practices in Malaysian oil and gas industry
Organisations in the oil and gas (O&G) sector are extremely susceptible to the forces of supply and demand. Therefore, their viability depends heavily on efficient maintenance procedures and technologies. Given the ever-increasing global competitive pressure, particularly for the O&G operators, it is vital that companies equip themselves with a proper understanding of maintenance management programmes to enhance both the overall equipment effectiveness and throughput. This study was conducted at Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), PETRONAS’s most significant downstream investment. The objective of this study was to investigate the preventive maintenance practices, criteria for third-party vendor selection, the effect of preventive maintenance on PIC performance, and the preferred maintenance option for PIC. The qualitative paradigm was employed in this study with the triangulation method to explain the similarities of a phenomenon from the various study data collection methods, namely interview, observation, and document review. The study’s findings showed that maintenance staff members described their roles as “executors” and were well familiar with PIC's maintenance procedures. Respondents also cited that many criteria will be given consideration to select third-party vendors, such as experiences, adequate resources, and sufficient manpower. The findings also showed that PIC performance was at the desired level of 97% reliability score, which further supports why preventive maintenance is the preferred strategy for PIC. Even though limitations exist in maintenance activities, they can be overcome with the enhancement of the work procedures. This study highlighted the significant relationship between preventive maintenance and the intent to maintain a competitive edge, which ultimately leads to real performance. Study limitations and recommendations for future research are also covered in this study

Knowledge and attitude of scabies infection preventive practices among Islamic boarding school occupants
The study has aimed to investigate the knowledge and attitudes of scabies infection preventive practices among the occupants of Maahad Tahfiz At-Ta’xim Segamat, an Islamic boarding school. At present, the pervasive scabies prevalence in the school accounted for 60.7%. A number of factors have been found as the cause of the phenomenon among the surveyed population, including overcrowding, low humidity, and poor hygiene. To meet the objectives of the study, a cross sectional design was used, and 150 participants were surveyed using the stratified random sampling method. A structured questionnaire was developed and used as the tool for data collection, and SPSS software was used for data analysis, including the use of descriptive, correlation, and regression analyses. The results of the present study have shown that the subjects have a high level of knowledge regarding scabies symptoms and measures that can be taken to prevent the disease. While the mean was evaluated at 4.00, indicating a high level of knowledge, the mean of attitudes was 3.77. The correlation analysis has indicated that there is a high positive correlation between knowledge levels and the preventive practices, and the results were statistically significant. A similar correlation and significance were found when analyzing attitudes towards the scabies prevention. In addition, the results of the regression analysis show that both knowledge levels and attitudes can become predictors of the behavior. The implications of the study suggest that health education programs should be focused on this area to improve the knowledge of the students about the problem and the preventive measures that they could take, and the preventive practices should also be taught to change the attitudes of students towards this disease. Improving hygiene and sanitation and promoting a positive health culture and attitudes of students and staff should be the main target of health education programs. Regular screening and swift treatment should also help to address the problem. In future studies, it would be recommended to include a longitudinal study in the design and qualitative data collection methods

This study explores the form, meaning and function of Batik Sintok (Cyntok Bhatik) as a form of visual communication language from its user to the general public. This study uses an aesthetic approach, denotative-connotative semiotics, and functional theory of art. This method is used to find out in depth about the existence of motif fiction art from several relevant scientific perspectives. This study aims to examine the structure or elements that exist in the design of Sintok Batik motifs (Cyntok Bhatik) and the aesthetic value of visual and non-visual symbolic meanings contained in the fictional art of motifs found. It also explore the function of both personal function of art and the physical function of art together with the social function of art. In order to obtain accurate interpretation of the object of investigation, the methodology that been use is qualitative analysis. The main objective of this research is to get the meaning of nine Sintok Batik motifs (Cyntok Bhatik) while the theory of meaning by Rolan Bartes' in semiotic theory or better known as bartesian theory. To simplify its meaning, the theory of visual aesthetics is used in first phase by dissecting the elements and structure of the sintok batik motif design, by obtaining visual and non-visual aesthetics. This approach has been used to analyze the function of the Sintok Batik motif design (Cyntok Bhatik) itself. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that each Sintok Batik motif (Cyntok Bhatik) created has nine names that become the identity of the motif itself. The evolving design motif have various forms in robust shapes with plant or organic motif and geometric, rectangular shapes. Each design motif has an aesthetic, social, and symbolic function related to a philosophy of life. The symbolic meaning produced by this design includes religious, philosophical and mystical (sufism) meanings. Up to nine motifs have their own meanings and functions that can represent the image of Sintok Batik users (Cyntok Bhatik)
Data Transformation Model For Addressing Incomplete And Inconsistent Quality Issues Of Big Data
Data Quality (DQ) assessment remains one of the major challenges for Big Data (BD) due to the complexity of handling large volumes of data. Traditional data transformation methods such as Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) use data sources from a diverse range of devices and locations resulting in incomplete and inconsistent DQ that may lead to wrong insights and decisions. Therefore, DQ is vital for the effective operation and management of BD. Recognizing many DQ features from its definition to the various dimensions is essential for equipping techniques and procedures to improve DQ. This research focuses on two aspects of DQ: completeness, and consistency. Firstly, an enhanced data transformation model (2CsDQT) is proposed to assess and improve big data quality. A new algorithm using ontology and clustering methods is used to identify and correct incomplete and inconsistent data, which resolves the availability and comprehensiveness of data, similarity between data items, and missing specific attributes of data. Secondly, using a clustering technique to analyse DQ, and improve employing results from the 2CsDQT model. The complete and consistent data are put into clusters, and the designed algorithm predicts the position of any incomplete and inconsistent data, based on its value to be added to the specific cluster. The study was evaluated using the developed model and benchmarked
with existing data transformation techniques in the literature. This research shows that the 2CsDQT model successfully improves BD quality and outperforms previously proposed methods. Data completeness and consistency results outperform related articles and benchmark studies in the literature on the datasets of two different test cases. The theoretical contribution of this research work is to provide insight into the importance of DQ issues in BD and the effect of inconsistency and incompleteness on BD application. The practical contribution is the provision of enhanced data transformation models for DQ leading to better data analysis and strategic planning
