Exploring the influence of odour habituation on risk perception and safety behaviour in rubber manufacturing
Industrial odours are a distinct environmental feature of rubber manufacturing environment. Despite its prevalence, the impact of prolonged exposure to worker’s safety remains underexplored. This study aims to explore the effects of extended odour exposure, particularly on how odour habituation influences worker’s risk perception and safety behaviour in Malaysian rubber manufacturing industry. Although risk perception is widely recognised as key determinant of workplace safety, there is limited research regarding how odour habituation affects worker’s risk appraisal over time. To address this gap, the study adopted a qualitative single-case study design to explore the mechanisms underlying odour-related risk dynamics. The investigation was guided by the Risk Perception-Unsafe Behaviour Formation Model to frame the role of sensory adaptation in shaping worker’s safety behaviour. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with workers from both direct and indirect exposure roles, supported with direct observations at the rubber manufacturing facility. Thematic analysis revealed a spectrum of habituation development that were influenced by various adaption catalysts. Odour habituation contributed to a range of perceptual biases that were reinforced by social norms and limitations in organizational controls. The findings also highlighted behavioural gaps, particularly when odours were no longer consciously recognised. Despite these challenges, workers proposed practical improvements including awareness training, tailored PPE and participatory safety practices. This reflects their awareness regarding the contextual inadequacy of the interventions. Based on these insights, the study recommended a multi-layered control strategy to address both systemic and behavioural risks in odour-intensive environment. This study presents an extended perspective on risk formation by integrating sensory adaptation and contextual dynamics. The findings also underscore the need for adaptive, perception-informed interventions in odour-intensive environments and provide a foundation for future research across similar industrial environments
Human Resource Management (HRM) practices and turnover intentions among teachers
Employee turnover intention has become a critical issue in the field of human resource management, particularly within the education sector, where teacher retention significantly affects school performance and student outcomes. The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between selected Human Resource Management (HRM) practices namely training and development, compensation, career development, and performance appraisal and turnover intention among secondary school teachers in the district of Kuala Muda, Kedah. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected through questionnaires distributed via stratified proportionate sampling to a target sample of 322 teachers, representing a population of 2,052. A total of 232 valid responses were obtained, yielding a response rate of 72.05%. The data were analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 23. Descriptive, factor analysis, reliability, correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the research hypotheses. The outcomes of the analysis demonstrated that each HRM practice had a significant correlation with the intention to leave. Notably, performance appraisal and opportunities for career progression showed the strongest influence in reducing teachers' desire to quit. These insights underscore the value of implementing well-planned HRM initiatives to foster long-term teacher retention. The findings contribute meaningful perspectives to the field of HRM, particularly within Malaysia’s public education system
The impact of incoterms on supply chain financial performance
The impact of International Commercial Terms (Incoterms) on the performance of the financial supply chain is examined in this qualitative study, which focuses on three often used terms: Free on Board (FOB), CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight), and EXW (Ex Works). In international trade, Incoterms which are standardized by the International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) Incoterms 2020 framework are crucial for outlining the obligations, expenses, and risk allocation between buyers and sellers. This study's main goal is to investigate the financial results and cost implications of using EXW, FOB, and CIF terms. Specifically, it aims to understand how these Incoterms affect the transaction costs. The study focuses on companies located in Johor, Malaysia, a key industrial and trading region, to gather contextual insights from professionals actively engaged in import and export operations. Data was collected through interviews session with logistics managers, supply chain officers, and directors. The findings indicate that improper or uninformed selection of Incoterms often leads to financial inefficiencies, including longer payment cycles, higher costs, and misallocated responsibilities. This research offers valuable recommendations to help organizations make informed Incoterms choices, strengthen collaboration between logistics and finance departments, and enhance financial performance through better risk and cost management in the supply chain

Noise sensitivity, safety climate, risk perception & protection behaviour among maintenance workers
Noise exposure remains a critical concern for workers in the maintenace, especially among those in maintenance roles who face high-risk acoustic environments. This study investigates how Noise Sensitivity, Safety Climate, and Risk Perception influence Protection Behaviour among maintenance workers in Malaysia. The objective was to determine whether these psychological and organisational factors significantly predict the consistent use of hearing protection devices (HPDs). A quantitative research design was adopted using a structured questionnaire distributed to 110 maintenance workers. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple linear regression. The results revealed that all three independent variables had a statistically significant and positive relationship with Protection Behaviour, with Safety Climate emerging as the strongest factor. These findings highlight the importance of fostering a supportive safety culture, recognising individual sensitivity to noise, and enhancing risk awareness to improve compliance with hearing conservation practices. The study contributes to the field of occupational safety and health by providing evidence that both psychological and organisational factors jointly influence protection actions in high-noise industrial settings. The results are useful for employers, policymakers, and safety practitioners aiming to develop more effective noise control and hearing protection programs tailored to vulnerable worker group

The Multiple Regression analysis is used to examine the relationship between dependent variable job satisfaction and the independent variable including monetary value , perceived fairness and sufficient for living. The finding indicate perceived fairness has a significant relationship with job satisfaction. Employee who perceived fairness treated are satisfied with their job. However the hypotheses regarding monetary value and sufficient for living were not supported , indicating that two factors not have a significant relationship within job satisfaction
Explainable artificial intelligence-based intuitionistic fuzzy network TOPSIS preference relation models for sukuk investment decisions
Sukuk investments are increasingly important as Shariah-compliant financial instruments requiring consideration of diverse and conflicting criteria. These challenges require decision support tools that not only handle uncertainty but provide transparent justifications for investment choices. However, despite advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) applications in decision support, explainability in fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods such as the technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) remains limited. The lack of explainability reduces trust and transparency, and weakens investor confidence. To address this gap, this study investigates how explainable fuzzy-based MCDM models, can improve decision clarity, reliability, and assurance in sukuk investment decisions. Therefore, the study proposes the development of fuzzy-based explainable models that combine transparency with post-hoc techniques and are aligned with eXplainable artificial intelligence (XAI) properties. Three explainable models were developed, namely, intuitionistic fuzzy network TOPSIS, intuitionistic fuzzypreference relation, and intuitionistic fuzzy network preference relation with a weighting algorithm. The properties of transparency were achieved through model design, while post-hoc explainability was addressed using visualisation, and the models were applied to sukuk data in selecting suitable investment alternatives. The results revealed the ranking of each alternative by preference value and identified the top 15 out of 27 alternatives with corresponding investment proportions. Among these, the highest investment proportions were generated for Alternative 27 (7.08%), Alternative 15 (6.97%), and Alternative 5 (6.88%). The proposed models showed considerable consistency compared to the established model through sensitivity analysis. The visualisation outputs were then validated by decision makers for effectively interpreting the most and least preferred sukuk alternatives. This research contributes to the incorporation of XAI properties into fuzzy MCDM models, introducing a novel explainable model that offers transparent, diversified decisions, validated through decision makers’ feedback. Moreover, this model can also be applied in other domains, extending its relevance beyond sukuk investment
Autonomy support, expectancy beliefs and autonomous motivation among private music school students: the mediating role of basic psychological needs
The unequal distribution of educational resources has rendered private instrument music learning a favored option among parents. Against the backdrop of China's implementation of the Double Reduction Policy, the domestic music education market has experienced rapid growth. Factors such as students' autonomy in private instrument music courses, parental support, and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs play a role in shaping the sustainable development of China's music education market. This study aims to explore the role of perceived autonomy support from parents and teachers, the impact of expectancy beliefs on autonomous motivation, and the mediating role of basic psychological needs in the process among primary school students in Nanchang, China, in private music courses. Despite the growing number of Chinese students participating in private music education, the underlying motivations and psychological mechanisms driving their engagement, particularly about autonomy support, expectancy beliefs, and autonomous motivation, remain insufficiently explored. This study adopting a quantitative research approach, developed a research model grounded in self-determination and expectancy-value theories, proposed 13 hypotheses.Data were collected from 305 valid responses out of 420 distributed questionnaires among students aged 7–12 with at least six months of instrument learning experience in 10 private music schools in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to examine the relationships among the key variables in the study. The results showed that both autonomy support and expectancy beliefs significantly enhanced autonomous motivation, with basic psychological needs partially mediating these effects. Its findings not only deepen the understanding of the formation mechanism of individual motivation in the field of private music education, reveal the key paths to enhance students' learning motivation and sustained engagement, but also provide a new perspective for expanding the application of this theoretical framework in the field of private music education, and inject practical ideas into the sustainable development of the music education industry.Autonomy Support, Expectancy Beliefs, Autonomous Motivation, Basic Psychological Needs, Private Music School
