Despite increasing attention on supply chain resilience (SCR), limited empirical research has been conducted on how port infrastructure contributes to SCR within the Malaysian context. Many factors can influence resilience in supply chains, yet few studies have systematically evaluated the roles of specific infrastructure components. This study investigates the specific contribution of key port infrastructure elements that affect performance of resilient supply chains. The research focuses on Wilhelmsen Port Services (WPS) in Malaysia as a case study to understand how terminal capacity and berth availability, port equipment and handling technology and hinterland connectivity (road, rail, and inland waterway) influence SCR. The study also explores the moderating effect of port disruption types in the relationship between infrastructure elements and resilience outcomes. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, involving quantitative survey data from 196 WPS professionals and qualitative insights through open-ended responses. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, Multiple Regression, and Thematic Analysis. Results revealed that all three infrastructure components have significant and positive effects on SCR, with port equipment and handling technology having the strongest influence. Thematic findings supported the quantitative results and highlighted key operational challenges such as equipment downtime, yard congestion, and poor inland connectivity. This research contributes to both academic literature and practical port development by offering evidence-based recommendations to strengthen port resilience through strategic infrastructure investment

    Get PDF
The semiconductor industry lies at the core of modern technological advancement, yet it faces significant disruptions due to supply chain vulnerabilities. The demand for semiconductors has surged across various industries, such as electronics, automotive, medical, and consumer products. However, the supply of semiconductors has not been able to keep up with the demand, resulting in shortages and delays that have had far-reaching impacts. This research investigates the key challenges affecting the global semiconductor supply chain (SSC) and how these challenges contribute to chip supply uncertainty. Specifically, the study reveals the industry expert perception of the impact of three critical factors: geographical concentration, geopolitical tensions, and manufacturing complexity on global chip supply. A qualitative research design was adopted, involving in-depth interviews with three industry professionals from semiconductor companies operating in Malaysia. Thematic analysis was used to extract insights through a structured process of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that geographical concentration creates single points of failure, particularly when manufacturing operations or raw material sources are centralized in specific regions such as China or Taiwan. Geopolitical tensions, such as the US-China trade conflict and export restrictions on semiconductor technologies, further exacerbate supply uncertainties by imposing tariffs and disrupting cross-border logistics. Meanwhile, manufacturing complexity driven by stringent quality standards, technological miniaturization, and long production cycles contributes to delays and material rejection, particularly in customized chip production environments. The research contributes to existing literature by offering a focused understanding of supply chain disruptions within the semiconductor industry and provides strategic insights for policymakers and industry leaders aiming to enhance supply chain resilience in the face of future global uncertaintie

The data security of an organisation is not only susceptible to malicious outsiders and exploitative attackers but also to insider threats. Preventing insider threats is particularly challenging, especially when they originate from seemingly trusted and authorised insiders. Currently, in Malaysia there are several legislation touch upon cyber security. Nevertheless, the regulation of cyber insider threats remain severely limited and inadequate. Organisations respond to insider threats risks by implementing their own cyber insider threat programmes. However, the extensive scrutiny and monitoring of employees that these programmes entail, may lead to dissatisfaction among employees or even a potential breach of their privacy rights. Hence, this thesis aims to study the concepts of cyber security and cyber insider threats in organisations; analyse the existing Malaysian cyber security laws related to cyber insider threats; examine the application of these laws in regulating cyber insider threats and study the strategies to balance employees’ right to privacy with the potential intrusion posed by insider threats programmes. Employing a qualitative research approach, nine professionals from different backgrounds in Malaysia were interviewed using a semi-structured approach. Data was collected on the applications of existing cyber security laws in regulating cyber insider threats and cyber insider threats programmes. The study found that there is a need to revise existing cyber security provisions to better regulate cyber insider threats. In many cases, individuals involved in insider threats face legal consequences, however, there are instances where they may evade charges or receive lesser penalties. Furthermore, cyber insider threats programmes have been found to prevent incidents by implementing strategies to detect, deter, and respond to potential threats within an organisation, demonstrating their effectiveness in combating cyber threats. Nonetheless, striking a balance between the right to monitor employees against insiders’ threats and the right to privacy of employees remains a critical challenge. The findings of the study are expected to contribute to the body of knowledge on cyber insider threats in Malaysia and assist the policy makers in improving the legal framework surrounding cyber insider threats and related programs
