    Get PDF
Work-life balance has recently gained the interest of both organizations, academic and non-academic, largely due to the conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic makes it necessary for various companies and business organizations to implement flexible working arrangements, which, if ineffectively handled, can result in a work-life imbalance. The flexible working arrangements are still practiced in a few organizations and businesses even after COVID-19. In order to create appropriate organizational policies that guarantee the successful implementation of flexible working arrangements, e.g., work from home, it is vital to comprehend the variables that may affect work-life balance. This study aims to investigate the influence of job factors on work-life balance among government-linked company employees in Selangor. The job factors are, namely, attitudes toward flexible working arrangements, job autonomy, and reasonable workload. The respondent-administered questionnaire adopted and adapted from previous studies consisted of 47 items. The total number of respondents for this study was 103 respondents with response rate of 76.9 percent. By using SPSS version 27, all data were analysed through linear regression to explore the relationship between job factors, specifically attitudes toward flexible working arrangements, job autonomy, and reasonable workload on work-life balance. The result indicated that attitudes toward flexible working arrangements have a significant and negative correlation with work-life balance, while job autonomy and reasonable workload do not have a significant influence on work-life balance. In conclusion, the implications of this study are examined, and suggestions for future research are proposed

    Get PDF
Ensuring safety compliance among food delivery riders is essential for minimizing workplace hazards and safeguarding their well-being. This study investigates the effects of safety knowledge, safety motivation, and perceived work pressure on safety compliance among p-hailing riders in Malaysia. A quantitative approach was employed using a cross-sectional design, with data collected through an online survey. The study targeted active food delivery riders from major platforms such as GrabFood and Foodpanda, utilizing convenience sampling techniques. A total of 113 respondents participated. The results revealed that safety knowledge significantly enhances safety compliance, while perceived work pressure negatively affects compliance. However, the influence of safety motivation on safety compliance was found to be statistically insignificant. These findings suggest that while improving safety knowledge is crucial for compliance, motivation alone may not be sufficient to encourage safer behaviors. Theoretically, this research extends Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) by demonstrating how personal factors (knowledge and motivation) and an environmental factor (work pressure) interact to influence safety behaviors in the gig economy context. Practically, the results offer valuable insights to policymakers, platform providers, and regulatory bodies, enabling the design of targeted interventions to improve rider safety and address job-related pressures

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the factors that influence customer interest in using sharia gold pawn services (Ar-Rahnu) in the Kubang Pasu area, Kedah, Malaysia. The three main variables analyzed are religiosity, promotion, and information technology. This study uses a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents who are users of Ar-Rahnu services. The analysis methods used include validity and reliability tests, multiple linear regression analysis, and partial and simultaneous hypothesis tests. The results of the study show that the three independent variables—religiosity, promotion, and information technology—have a significant effect on customer interest in using Ar-Rahnu services. Partially, each variable has a positive contribution in increasing customer interest. Information technology has been shown to facilitate access to services, effective promotions increase awareness and interest, while the level of religiosity influences customer preferences for sharia-based products. This study contributes to Islamic financial institutions in designing marketing strategies and digitalization of services in accordance with sharia principles. In addition, these findings can be used as a basis for policy makers in supporting the development of sharia economy through optimizing Ar-Rahnu services

The development of an alternative Islamic quality management framework using Quranic text mining for educational institutions

In an increasingly competitive global market, the implementation of Quality Management System (QMS) can clearly add value to organization. While QMS is not a new concept, it has evolved over time to meet the demands of globalization. Islam, a religion emphasizing excellence and earnestness, also stresses the importance of quality. Therefore, in 2005, MS 1900 was established through the Islamization process in an effort to create a quality system based on Islam. While MS 1900 was built using ISO 9001 as foundation and incorporating Islamic values, some studies suggest the necessity of a quality framework rooted purely in the concept of tawhid. Hence, this study aims to develop an Islamic Quality Management System (IQMS) based on Al-Quran sources using data analytics technology, specifically text mining, verified by focused discussions. Unlike Islamization of Knowledge, this framework is purely sourced from Islam. Educational institutions, particularly the school level, require a robust quality management system. Therefore, the constructs, dimensions, and items of the IQMS are tailored to meet the needs of educational institutions. Employing a mixed methodology, this study utilizes qualitative techniques to construct instruments based on Al-Quran using Quranic Text Mining, and quantitative techniques to test validity and reliability. A survey was conducted among Private Islamic Primary Schools across Malaysia for the quantitative part. The results of the study provide empirical evidence regarding validity and reliability of the developed instruments, employing factor analysis in IBM SPSS. There are 17 constructs built using Quranic text mining and previous literature. The validity and reliability test indicate a strong result for all items built. The research findings contribute significantly to exploration of quality management discipline and developing Islamic quality tools suitable for the education sector. The development of an IQMS by extracting thematic insights directly from the Quran ensures that policies are grounded in authentic Islamic teachings and promoting ethical standards for Islamic education. The urgency of implementing this IQMS lies in its potential to address the growing demand for culturally relevant and spiritually aligned educational frameworks, thereby enhancing the overall quality and effectiveness of Islamic educational institutions. Furthermore, this research promotes the use of technology as dalil aqli and contributes to continuous improvement in the field of quality management

The effectiveness of training in improving job performance has become a critical concern in organizations, with existing research highlighting various factors that influence job performance. In the case of a training-based organization such as the Malaysian Army, the opportunity to explore these influencing factors is limited and underexplored, primarily due to confidentiality and accessibility constraints. This study addresses the critical need to optimize the effectiveness of military training to enhance job performance within the Malaysian Army. This study explores how training design, training relevance and efficiency, performance self-efficacy, and perceived organizational support influence the job performance of military personnel in the Royal Artillery Regiment of the Malaysian Army. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing surveys to collect data from military personnel across various ranks in the regiment, underpinned by Kurt Lewin’s Field Theory. The results indicate that performance self-efficacy, training relevance and efficiency are significantly positively associated with job performance. In contrast, training design and perceived organizational support did not correlate significantly, suggesting their effects might depend on leadership and team dynamics. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing performance self-efficacy through effective training programs and improving training design to meet real-world operational needs. Strengthening leadership support and refining training strategies are crucial for improving the overall performance of military personnel. The study offers practical recommendations for military training policies and proposes future research avenues, including longitudinal methods and qualitative approaches for a more comprehensive understanding of military job performanc

This study examines the impact of training modules, training methods, and trainer competencies on employee performance within Malaysia's oil and gas industry. Using a quantitative survey approach, the research explores how these factors contribute to the effectiveness of training programs and their subsequent influence on workforce productivity. The correlation analysis revealed positive relationships between all three variables and employee performance; however, regression analysis found that training modules and methods were not statistically significant predictors of performance (p > 0.05). In contrast, the competency of trainers was found to be a significant predictor of employee performance (β = 0.617, p < 0.001). This highlights the critical role that trainers play in enhancing employee performance, particularly through effective communication, motivation, and the application of practical skills. The findings suggest that while well-designed training modules and methods are important, they must be complemented by skilled trainers who can facilitate the practical application of knowledge. The study offers valuable insights for HR managers and industry leaders, recommending that organizations prioritize continuous professional development for trainers to ensure the optimal delivery of training programs. These findings contribute to the development of more effective human resource strategies aimed at improving employee performance and maintaining a competitive edge in the dynamic oil and gas secto

The influence of management commitment, safety training and safety communication on safety compliance in a Malaysia's manufacturing industry

    Get PDF
This study explores the organizational determinants that influence safety compliance within Malaysia’s manufacturing sector, with a focus on three key variables: management commitment, safety training, and safety communication. Safety compliance defined as adherence to occupational safety and health (OSH) standards. It is essential in reducing workplace risks and safeguarding employee wellbeing. Despite Malaysia's established regulatory framework, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 2022 Amendment and initiatives led by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), workplace accidents in the manufacturing industry remain persistently high. This raises critical questions about the effectiveness of current safety compliance practices. What sets this study apart is its integrated approach, analyzing the combined effects of management support, training quality, and communication clarity factors typically examined in isolation in previous research. Additionally, this study is situated within the context of Malaysia’s modular housing manufacturing sector, offering a rare and context-specific insight into safety behaviors in a high-risk, yet under-researched industrial niche. By drawing from Social Exchange Theory, the research further contributes theoretically by explaining how reciprocal relationships between employees and organizations foster compliance behaviors. The study adopts a quantitative, cross-sectional design, collecting data via a structured online questionnaire. The survey uses a five-point Likert scale to assess perceptions of the selected variables. Statistical analyses, including correlation and multiple regression, are employed to examine the interrelationships among them. The findings are expected to generate practical recommendations for OSH practitioners and industry leaders, especially in tailoring safety strategies that align with organizational behavior and cultural dynamics in Malaysia. By bridging empirical evidence with local industrial realities, this research not only addresses existing literature gaps but also invites readers to consider new perspectives on cultivating sustainable safety compliance in manufacturing environments
