Job satisfaction is important that can affect individuals’ motivation, commitment and performance. Low job satisfaction can end with higher turnover expectation, low morale and weak mission fulfillment. However, traditional job satisfaction theories do not take into consideration the complex overlying needs of elite military teams. Little research has discussed the impact of such dynamics on other rank (OR) members in elite units, the personal experience of whom is usually immensely different compared to their peers, the officers. These soldiers are commonly involved in the most challenging performing lines of duties yet they do not always have freedom, career development sense, or psychological welfare system which are significant job satisfaction indicators. Therefore, this study is conducted with the intention to capture factors that might influence job satisfaction among Other Ranks in Malaysian Army special forces. The study tested four independent variables namely, work-life conflict, social support, career growth and self-efficacy against job satisfaction. A total of 367 questionnaire were distributed online using Google form with response rate of 100%. In this study, hypotheses for direct relationhsip were tested using multiple regression analyses. Results showed that only career growth and self-efficacy positively related to job satisfaction. The findings indicate that job satisfaction tend to increase when there are high opportunity for career growth and when they belief in their ability to complete a task or achieve a goal. Though work-life conflict was found significant in this study, it was in the opposite direction. Interestingly indicating that as work-life conflict increase so does the feelings of satisfaction towards their job. These findings provide new insight on the issues of job satisfaction. The question of why providing social support do not influence job satisfaction by Other Ranks in Malaysian Army special forces provide opportunity for future research to reconcile these explanations

The mathematics performance of Orang Asli pupils is commonly affected by language and literacy barriers. Introducing test accommodations may potentially serve as a solution to alleviate these issues faced by the pupils. This study employed a mixed-method approach to examine the use of recorded oral tests in the language of instruction and ethnic language as test accommodations on complex linguistic features such as item length and vocabulary. The quantitative approach of this study evaluated the mathematics performance of 142 Year 4 Orang Asli pupils from the Temiar ethnic group from seven primary schools in the states of Perak and Kelantan. To evaluate the effectiveness of the test accommodation, three mathematics tests comprising 40 test items were developed, which are a written test in Bahasa Melayu, recorded oral test in Bahasa Melayu, and recorded oral test in Bahasa Temiar. The quantitative data was analysed using ANOVA test and Pearson correlation. For the qualitative approach, content analysis was carried out on vocabulary type, while thematic analysis on semi-structured interviews with seven mathematics teachers were conducted to explore their views on the use of the recorded oral test for the Orang Asli pupils. Findings showed that the pupils performed significantly better when administered recorded oral tests, compared to the written test. Moreover, between the recorded oral tests, the findings indicated that pupils performed better when administered the test in Bahasa Melayu, compared to Bahasa Temiar. Three key themes were identified from the qualitative input, namely factors affecting pupils’ performance pre-test accommodation, support for post-recorded oral test accommodation, and future challenges on the use of recorded oral test. This study underscores the practical implementation of recorded oral test to reduce cognitive load caused by linguistic features as a fair and inclusive test accommodation in mathematics testing for Orang Asli pupils in Malaysia

This research investigates the factors influencing the intention to visit dark sites by integrating the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Constraints Negotiation Theory (CNT). A total of 481 valid questionnaires were collected from on-site visitors at two prominent Chinese dark tourism sites: the Memorial of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre and Beichuan Earthquake Relics. The analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate the proposed framework. The findings reveal that attitude and perceived behavioural control significantly influence the intention to visit dark tourism sites, while subjective norms have no significant impact. Additionally, a negative relationship was observed between travel constraints and visiting intentions to dark sites. Specifically, intrapersonal travel constraints, such as the emotion of fear, showed a strong negative association with visit intention, whereas interpersonal and structural travel constraints have minimal effects. This study also found that cognitive negotiation strategies helped mediate the negative effect of travel constraints on tourists’ intention to visit dark sites. These strategies involve psychological adjustments that enable individuals to overcome intrapersonal travel constraints by altering their perceptions of dark tourism. The integration of TPB and CNT enhances theoretical understanding by illustrating how psychological factors and constraint management interact in the context of dark tourism. From a practical standpoint, the findings suggest that site managers should focus on highlighting the educational and remembrance values of the sites, as well as develop emotional preparation programs and provide on-site emotional support services to alleviate intrapersonal travel constraints. This study’s focus on Chinese dark tourism sites offers culturally specific insights and provides a foundation for cross-national comparisons, enabling researchers to explore how cultural values and social norms shape dark tourism behaviour in diverse contexts. Future research could explore longitudinal changes in behavior and the cross-national applicability of this integrated theoretical approac

i-Synergy: An integrated predictive model of time pressure, personality types, gender, knowledge and task complexity to determine software developer’s performance

    Get PDF
Human factors play a crucial role in software engineering (SE) as software is developed and utilized by people. One of the key reasons for software project failure is not assigning the right people to the right tasks during project planning. This issue becomes critical when developers work under time pressure (TP), often resulting in poor performance and delays. Each personality type approaches TP differently, and gender-based personality differences may further influence how developers handle TP, leading to varied outcomes. In addition, task complexity and developers’ knowledge interrelate with personality types and gender, potentially affecting project performance under TP. The main aim of this study is to propose the i-SYNERGY model by investigating the relationship between TP, personality types, gender, knowledge, and task complexity. To develop this model, empirical evidence was gathered from controlled experiments conducted with SE students, and generalised from industrial data through two case studies. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and NASA task load index (TLX) were used to measure personality types and TP, respectively. The data analysis was divided into two stages. The first stage involved examining factual figures of data to develop the model, while the second stage involved predictive experiments for developing the model under the knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) process. Five data mining techniques—artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), decision tree, K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and logistic regression were employed to identify the most suitable technique for model development. Logistic regression yielded the most significant results for developing the study model, confirming that personality types and gender differences influence software developers' ability to handle TP. This study offers empirical evidence regarding the impact of TP on humanistic aspects. Furthermore, the model developed can be leveraged to enhance the success rate of software projects in the field of SE
