Organisational change is a crucial component for the organisation to be successful in any field including education. Higher Educational Institutions nowadays have to constantly change their systems, processes and operations in order to accommodate the external challenges. Thus, the objectives of this study is twofold. First, the purpose of this study is to examine the effects of antecedent factors (role overload, role ambiguity, interpersonal conflict, workplace telepressure and workplace Fear of Missing Out) on the commitment to change. Second, this study investigates the moderating effect of cynicism about organisational change in the hypothesised relationship. A total of 328 academic staffs in selected TVET institutions in Malaysia participated in the study. The data were analysed through structural equation modelling using PLS SEM. The finding of the study indicated that role overload, workplace telepressure and workplace Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) are positively affects employees’ commitment to change. The study also confirmed that role ambiguity and interpersonal conflict have a negative effect on the commitment to change among employees. Furthermore, this study also found that cynicism about organisational change moderates the relationship between workplace FoMO and commitment to change. This study contributed to the body of knowledge related to the current workrelated issues and provide more insights on the effect of workplace telepressure and workplace FoMO in the organisational context and the moderating role of cynicism about organisational change. Besides, the study aimed to provide practical implications, notably in the context of organisational change practices in higher educational institutions

    No full text
Pharmacological treatments for memory disorders are expensive and cause side effects. As an alternative, non-pharmacological interventions are introduced to cater for the drawbacks. Digital games for example are introduced as an alternative to rehabilitation in neuro-psychological due to their strengths. However, concrete and robust evidence is required to acquire effective designs and implementation of an appropriate game-based intervention to serve its purposes. Current cognitive interventions lack reasoning capabilities and did not utilize neuron activities feedback. Thus, this study proposes game-based psychotherapy intervention model for memory disorder by using neurofeedback approach. Neurofeedback is capable to target particular components in the human brain to optimize cognitive functions. Design Science Research methodology with five phases has been adapted in this study. Eight exogenous and six instantaneous factors were identified through an extensive literature review as the main components to develop the model. Network Oriented model was utilized in designing the model by integrating the identified exogenous and instantaneous factors based on its influence and relationships. Verification of the proposed model was conducted by five experts and the validation was performed via three psychotherapy experiments conducted within 14 weeks involving 15 elderlies with early symptoms of memory disorder. Model validation was performed by analyzing EEG data recorded from six channels of Emotiv reader which are associated to the factors in the model by considering a broader score range and ceiling effects of 56.6%. This model comprises six instantaneous and eight exogenous factors together with their relationships from three main components; patient, game, and environmental support. Findings show that the verified and refined model is capable to provide good insights that are measured in eight dimensions; clarity, visibility, comprehensive, evolutionary, flexibility, accuracy, understandability, and effectiveness. Experts have affirmed the workability of the model with high acceptance. The proposed model is proven essential in improving the cognitive function of the neuro-degenerated brain, intending to preserve health during the ageing process. The incorporation of neurofeedback has contributed significantly to the theoretical aspect by improving the accuracy of data analysis in comparison to conventional methods. The model can be used as a guideline in planning for suitable cognitive training and rehabilitation for people with memory disorders. Psychologists and cognitive scientists are able to get deeper insights into the model to apply it to other domains such as traumatic brain injury

The application of the Self-Resilience Art Therapy Module (TSE-RD) in group interventions can facilitate Helping Professionals explore issues faced by abandoned single mothers (De Facto Single Mothers - DFSMs) who assume the roles of the family head while their husbands serve prison sentences. The DFSMs’ life under these circumstances is challenging, as they are prone to marginalization and receive little support from the surrounding community. As a result, they often face great pressure in shouldering the responsibilities as the family head. This study aims to understand their experiences and explore their interpretations of the self-resilience elements featured in the TSE-RD Module and examine the Module’s potential application in cluster interventions. The study participants comprise eight DFSMs selected through purposive sampling. Data we obtained using semi-structured in-depth interview methods and document analysis for data triangulation purposes. The TSE-RD Module was implemented in a structured group involving seven therapy session meetings and one interview session meeting for eight weeks. Findings from the study’s thematic analysis show that the DFSMs gained positive experiences throughout the group intervention sessions using the TSE-RD Module. The module successfully explores the interpretations of six elements that constitute the DFSMs self-resilience which are: self-reliance, life meaning, peace of mind and feelings, perseverance, loneliness philosophy and solitude, and divinity and spirituality. In addition, five themes were generated from the TSE-RD Module application on self-resilience, namely new thinking and perceptions, emotional care and stabilization, building single mothers’ self-resilience, decision-making skills and abilities as well as the benefits of creative methods to be shared with other single mothers. The TSE-RD Module resulting from this study is an alternative approach to Helping Professionals in implementing single mothers’ well-being intervention programs for DFSMs in Malaysia. The activities contained in the TSE-RD Module can help DFSMs deal effectively with life’s challenges

    Get PDF
Software quality is very crucial for users’ satisfaction and software success in the market. Recent studies found some ambiguous software quality attributes that may lead to low-quality software, and lack of elicitation practices in projects that apply Agile Software Development (ASD) methodology especially Scrum. However, current ASD methodologies, systematic literature reviews and surveys did not provide explanation of the necessary elicitation practices. Therefore, this qualitative study was essential to achieve two objectives: exploring the best practices and identifying process of eliciting unambiguous quality attributes in Scrum-based projects. The study used qualitative approach in which data was collected via interviewing eight experienced software practitioners from India and documents analysis that explains documentation of quality attributes in Scrum. For data analysis, the thematic analysis method was used for analysing interviews scripts and documents. The findings resulted in three initial themes that represent three steps in the elicitation process and six sub-themes that represent the elicitation practices. The first step is proactive exposure to quality attributes which consists of two practices: understanding software scope and envisaging potential quality attributes. The second step is mutual learning discussion which consists of two practices: ameliorating technical knowledge of customers and users and compiling details of quality attributes. The third step is verifying common understanding which consists of two practices: utilization of visual artefacts and documentation of quality attributes. The contribution of the study provides an extension to ASD body of knowledge regarding the effectiveness of disambiguation of terminologies in software domain, simplifying technical terms, representing reusable software artefacts, showing similar software, drawing mock-up and developing proof of concept in eliciting unambiguous quality attributes. Furthermore, the findings accentuate practical contributions to the software developers such as reducing effort, time and cost of designing and construction of software

The employment of sex-related taboos and corresponding euphemisms in Arabic among Jordanian university students

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine the extent to which Jordanian university students use positive and negative euphemism to address the problematic references of the taboo language in sex-related topics, namely sexual organs, sexual intercourse, and illegitimate sex relations. It also aims to shed light on certain aspects of this existence such as the formation processes of the various types of euphemisms and the extent to which Jordanian university students observe Grice‟s maxims of conversation or flout them. The theoretical framework used in this research is based on the following theories; the Politeness theory proposed by Brown and Levinson in 1987 and Grice's Co-operative principle and the Maxims of conversation in 1975. This study followed a mixed-methods approach, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The variables selected for this study are divided into two main categories: independent variable (gender) and dependent variable (the use of euphemisms by Jordanian university students). The current study found that Jordanian university students (male/female) slightly used taboo language to a certain extent. It was also found that the euphemisms‟ formation processes proposed by Farghal‟s model in 1995 are used by Jordanian university students, especially figurative speech and Euphemizers devices. The study has further revealed that Farghal‟s model is incapable of accounting for all euphemisms‟ formation devices employed by Jordanian university students. As a result, a modified version of Farghal‟s model was formulated by the researcher. The study also found that the euphemisms of sex-related topics, namely sexual organs, sexual intercourse, and illegitimate sex relations used by Jordanian university students (male/female) flout two of Grice‟s maxims of conversation, namely the maxim of quality and the maxim of manner. Finally, the findings of this study demonstrated that gender is slightly influential in terms of the Jordanian students‟ use of positive euphemism
