The impact of change-, production-, employee-orientation leadership styles on employee engagement a study of Malaysia’s banking and financial institutions
Employee engagement is widely recognized as a key driver of organizational efficiency and success. This is due to engaged employees who are committed to their roles and the organization, eventually foster higher morale, stronger unity, and greater workplace motivation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between change-orientation, production-orientation, and employee-orientation leadership styles and their impact on employee engagement among employees within an insurance institution in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Using a quantitative approach, data was collected via a digital questionnaire from 248 employees, which represented a 95% response rate. Analysis using IBM SPSS Version 30.0 revealed that all three leadership styles had a positive and significant relationship with employee engagement. These findings suggest that organizations in dynamic sectors like insurance can enhance employee engagement by developing leaders with a balance of task focus, relational concern, and change agility. Future research is encouraged to explore broader internal and external factors influencing employee engagement, such as job resources, rewards, organizational support, career growth, interpersonal relationships, and work-life balance
Application of building information modeling in campus facilities management : A case of Universiti Utara Malaysia
This study aims to explore the feasibility of applying Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the campus facilities management of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), serving as a representative case of facilities management scenarios in Malaysian higher education. With the expansion and aging of building assets in universities, the traditional management model has gradually exposed problems such as fragmented information, delayed response, and weak cross-departmental collaboration. As a digital integration platform covering the entire building lifecycle, BIM has demonstrated significant advantages in global construction management. However, its application in Malaysian higher education facilities management remains in its infancy. This study adopted a qualitative case study method, using semi-structured interviews with staff from UUM’s Development and Maintenance Department (JPP) as the primary data source, and conducted open, axial, and selective coding analyses using NVivo. The research identified key issues and their underlying causes in the current management system, and through thematic analysis, distilled five feasibility dimensions for BIM implementation: system adaptability, management improvement drive, organizational willingness to accept, capacity and resource guarantee, and strategic promotion mechanism. The findings indicate that BIM is conditionally feasible in UUM, with successful implementation depending on organizational commitment, technical readiness, and supportive policies. This research fills a gap in the application of BIM in campus facilities management in Malaysian universities and provides a structured practical pathway and theoretical reference for the digital transformation of higher education institution

User to user topic recommendation model for student social interaction
Social connectedness is important especially in academic setting because it can establish the sense of belonging, increase the emotional and academic support that result to higher motivation and better academic outcomes. Recommender systems can play a significant role in promoting social connectedness by fostering interactions, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging within communities or networks. Current social connectedness efforts heavily focus on digital interactions, online communities, and global reach that often powered by data-driven personalization. The current recommender systems also need to consider more homophily and homogeneity based on refined psychographic and personality traits. Hence, it is important to have a recommender system that suggested to solve these issues by recommending mutual topics for supporting social interactions and focusing on user-user relationship. This study focuses on developing a User to User Topic Recommendation Model for Student Social Interaction (TReSIT). This model is grounded on the theory of homophily, which describes individuals' tendency to interact with or be linked with others based on comparable characteristics or specific shared ideals. A predictive TReSIT model is developed based on psychological (the "big 5") and psychographics (values and lifestyles) factors. This predictive analytics model compared single and multi-classifier accuracy in predicting the importance of a topic for an individual. Then, a newly developed algorithm called the Social Recommendation (SAR) algorithm ranked and recommended the best topic for social interaction. The results show that the Parameterized Basic Ranking Evaluation Function (PBREF) has higher accuracy (69.90%) than Parameterized Multiple Classifier Ranking Evaluation Function (PMCREF) with 64.58%. An experiment also has been conducted to evaluate satisfaction towards the topic recommended. A total of 16 groups were formed based on the topic recommended by SAR and interacted with their team members. Later, they rated their interactions' satisfaction. The results show that the mean satisfaction level is 3.873. This model can be used in a working setting to trigger social interactions based on mutual interest. It can be implemented on a social robot that can trigger topics for conversations among individuals in a shared space like a resting area. The conversation later can foster social connectedness, reduce isolation, and possibly increase mental health

Keperluan nilai dalam teori Maslow berasaskan puisi kesusasteraan Melayu sekolah menengah
Literary works play a vital role in educating society, often reflecting human life and its efforts to fulfill psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Accordingly, this study aims to identify and analyze the human needs portrayed in KOMSAS and KMK poems, while highlighting the importance of values within Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as reflected in these literary texts. This study analyzes 130 modern poems featured in Malaysian secondary school textbooks used between the years 2000 and 2020. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study adopts content analysis as its research design, applying Maslow’s Humanistic Theory as the foundational framework for analyzing the selected poems. Maslow identified five fundamental needs that must be fulfilled for an individual to achieve self-actualization, whether in the realms of education, philosophy, psychology, or religion. However, his theory of human needs should be adapted and refined by incorporating Eastern values, making it more relevant and applicable within Eastern societies such as Malaysia. The findings reveal that the KOMSAS and KMK poems analyzed reflect all five levels of needs outlined by Maslow. In addition, the study also highlights the presence of localized values incorporated by the poets to address human needs within the context of the poems. The incorporation of poetry influenced by religious values, moral principles, and local cultural elements is expected to be better understood through the lens of human needs from a value-based perspective. Furthermore, literary analysis is hoped to offer a more holistic interpretation that aligns with local norms and values, thereby enriching the understanding of literary works studied within the educational curriculu

Determinants of emotional intelligence among bachelor's degree graduates in UUM Sintok
This study investigates the factors influencing graduate emotional intelligence (EI) among bachelor’s degree graduates at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Sintok, Year of 2024. Emotional intelligence, which includes self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy and social skills, is increasingly recognized as essential for employability in modern workforce. Despite high academic qualifications, many Malaysian graduates struggle with soft skills, and emotional readiness, affecting their transition into employment. The study examined on three independent variables such as soft skills, curriculum content of program and digital skills. A quantitative research design was employed with data collected from 150 students of UUM through structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis using SPSS version 29, including correlation and multiple regression test, revealed that curriculum content of program have a significant negative relationship with emotional intelligence and digital skills have a significant positive relationship with emotional intelligence. Surprisingly, soft skills showed no significant relationship with emotional intelligence in this context. These findings suggest that while digital readiness and curriculum alignment are critical to developing emotional intelligence, soft skills alone may not be sufficient without structured academic and technological support. The study offers valuable insights for educators, policymakers and employers in redesigning university programs to better prepare students emotionally and professionally for the demands of the workforc
