Revisión de ecuaciones que predicen la socavación local alrededor de pilas de puente
Existen en la actualidad gran cantidad de métodos para estimar la socavación local alrededor de pilas de puente; algunos de estos se obtienen de información de campo y en su gran mayoría de datos de laboratorio. El presente estudio corrige algunos métodos encontrados en la literatura con datos de campo y los compara con correcciones hechas usando datos de laboratorio. Se proponen finalmente ecuaciones para el cálculo de la socavación deducidas con datos de campo, laboratorio y una mezcla de estas dos fuentes. El estudio resalta la baja relación existente entre los métodos obtenidos de observaciones de campo y los obtenidos de experimentación en el laboratorio

The study of vibrating effects over treated materials has developed a characterisation of optimum ranges in which every mix can reach specified density effects. The analysis made of these types of mixes shows the reological behaviour under amplitude and frequency variations a few seconds after the application of the given parameters. However, after applying these parameters, the gained compactness is almost zero.

Colombian flowers industry needs to automatize the fumigation labors. This kind of job is developed under bad condition against the operator, great quantity of water is used an it has problems in the uniformity aspersion. Besides operators health is in danger and environment problems due to pesticides use. For above mentioned problems and with the financial aid of ASOCOLFLORES, a new prototype machine has been designed and built which mechanizes fumigation labor. The plastics processing industry was the first consumer of electric energy in Santafé de Bogotá during 1997. This sector was the second in total energy costs from 1994 to 1997. The Mines and Energy Department of Colombia encourages the industrial energy save by means of several strategies. Two of them are Demand Side Management and Rational Energy Use. In general, the industry does not work with tools as basic as energy audits for this purpose. Here we propose a specific research project aimed to determine the quantitative energy performance of the industrial group mentioned above
Evaluación de la respuesta dinámica del subsuelo en depósitos volcánicos y sus implicaciones para el diseño sísmico
The presence of superficial soils of volcanic origin and large man made fills of varying materials, which are supported by more competent soils, is a general characteristic of the Colombian Coffee Growing Region. This paper present results from laboratory tests performed on unaltered samples of volcanic ash soil, the typical ranges of dynamic properties observed and the variation of shear modulus and associated damping with level of strain. It also evaluates the expected dynamic response of representative deposits and presents the results of sensibility analysis of relevant variables. The dynamic response is compared with one of the available accelerographic records for the January 25th, 1999 Armenia Earthquake, and the design spectra is proposed for areas with different characteristics
Medidas de protección contra la socavación local en pilas de puente
The purpose of this present research is to analyze the effect of some protective structures used against local scour at bridge piers. The effects of using flat plates of different geometric shapes are studied. Experiments demonstrated that the efficacy of the tested elements increases when these are installed at the same level as the bed, as well as when their shapes conform to the patterns of scour basin around the pier. The maximum depth of scour in the presence of protective structures is found on the sides of the pier at a distance from it
