The present situation of the problems in the pavements requires the use of some methods that contemplate what in fact it happens to the structure of them. Using rational methods of design for pavements is a powerful tool that considers these aspects. To be able to use them, it is necessary to count on characteristics of the materials as the Dynamic Modules and Laws of fatigue. The present study provides one of these characteristics, Dynamic Modules, for cold mixtures using asphalt in foam form, a technique that even if it was created since 50 years ago it has been applied recently in many countries. Through this study, hot and cold mixtures were analyzed for three different graded aggregates and the conclusion was that the characteristics in resistance are very similar, which implies great benefits using this technique in cold
This article presents a study to optimize tube configuration in a pirotubular reservoir used in the sugar cane industry. Optimized tube configuration should eliminate problems in the stage of juice clarification (during which juice is heated from 60°C to 96°C), and improve panela\u27s quality. This study consists of: a) a mathematical model describing the macroscopic flow of juice, b) a finite-element modelling (FEM) simulation of the microscopic flow, and c) a comparison between results obtained by the two methods. The FEM simulated flow is then applied to several geometric configurations of the tubes in order to optimize tube configuration to provide an improved juice clarification stage. From the configurations tested, semielliptical tubes presented a better performance
This article describes the results of a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for traditional and organic cultivation of sugar cane in Valle del Cauca. Eco-scores obtained for each case, shown that organic cultivation is less harmful, in environmental terms, than traditional one. In the last one, the biomasa burning process, made to facilitate the crop, is the principal environmental problem, while in the first one, it is the use of “pollinaza”, an organic fertilizer. Based on these results recommendations were made to obtain significant reduction in the impact of the sugar cane cultivation
Un desarrollo de la universidad en Fermilab
The DZERO Experiment of FERMI laboratories (Fermi National Acceleration Laboratory), is improving its data acquisition system, migrating several of its modules towards new technologies, looking for a better performance and flexibility, in order to support permanent improvements. The DZERO is a multi-purpose detector for the study of the phenomena involved in short distance proton-antiproton collisions, with center of mass energy of 2 TeV.
A card called VRBC (VME Readout Buffer Controller) is in charge of the decision making for data validation. Data acquired in the silicon detectors resulted of collision experiments between particles accelerated by the Tevatrón. The Universidad de los Andes through its department of Physics is working in the DZERO experiment, and with support of the Center of Microelectronics of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, took the responsibility of update and design this card
