The present article, briefly, describes the theoretical design procedure of Wells turbines, typically utilized in Pneumatic Wave Energy Conversion Systems (PWECS). The principle behind the PWECS consists of extracting the pneumatic energy caused by an oscillating water column by the entrance of water waves in enclosed spaces. The paper establishes the design and experimental testing of a small permanent magnet generator suited for the wells turbine under development. The adequate matching between the Wells turbine and the generator has been conceived as a portable 50w d.c. electricity generation device; to be used, either, to powering telecommunications systems in military operations or to power navigation aids in rivers or at se
Non-Structural masonry walls strengthened with GFRP laminates
One of the major construction systems in Colombia, and in general throughout Latin America, consists of multistory moment resisting reinforced concrete (RC) frames filled with unreinforced masonry (URM) walls. These non-structural masonry walls are conventionally built using clay tiles. Due to the high seismic activity in Colombia, this kind of masonry wall is prone to damage. One of the alternatives being explored in Colombia to prevent the failure or lessen the damages in clay tile URM walls is to strengthen them with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) laminates. This paper presents promising results of experimental tests conducted on twenty-six wallettes of 9x70x70 cm and 9x120x120 cm, which were strengthened with different layouts of GFRP laminates. In addition, a full-scale wall was tested to validate the technology. The paper discusses the effect of GFRP laminates on the failure mechanisms, capacity and ductility parameters as well as on the overall reduction of earthquake damage for clay tile URM walls
Generación de fuentes sintéticas de tráfico de video vbr mpeg
This paper presents a methodology for implementation of synthetic of VBR MPEG video traffic, that also of model the marginal distribution capture in a high grade the present correlations in the empirical video traffic traces. It realizes an statistical and simulation comparison with empirical and synthetic traces. In the simulation its compare the parameters of performance of a system conformed for a buffer finite and an ATM link of output with empirical and synthetic traffic input. Its evidence that temporal dependence is the characteristic limitative of the models of generation of synthetic traffic

The continuous reports of security vulnerabilities and new ways to have access to privileged resources of our host, notice the necessity to be prepared to face a possible attack in our computational infrastructures and Communications. Therefore, the organizations that would maintain high security levels, require to establish, along with the good computer security practices, computer incident response teams, strategies for the identification and harvesting of the evidence of the incident, as well as personal permanently trained in computer security. In this sense, this article offers to readers an analysis scenario to think about incident response and digital evidence
A new approach to transport systems reliability based on an entirely probabilistic approach is proposed. This approach comprises two key elements: the state of the infrastructure and the behavior of the network users. It considers the state of the network through the relationship between the failure and repair rates of every link comprising the network and the user decision process as he/she uses the network to travel between two centroids. The procedure proposes an efficient strategy for modeling and managing transportation networks. The results are useful for the optimum allocation of resources for maintenance and rehabilitation
