Quantitative data on the use of imperium (empire) in early medieval advice to kings and queens

    No full text
This dataset is a quantitative dataset of the use of the terms imperium, imperator, and connected words in a group of advice texts for Carolingian (c. 751-888, western Europe) rulers. I used Quanteda, a set of packages for the R programming language, to gather this data from the plaintext and perform the statistical operations needed, including collocation and keyness analyses. The dataset is then used in the associated article to argue for changing conceptual meanings of the term over the eighth and ninth centuries

Sensory attribute and difference from control ratings of tomato soup

    No full text
The dataset contains assessor ratings for 3 variations of tomato soup. A panel of untrained assessors (n=54) evaluated the samples using the overall difference testing method -Difference from Control (DFC) and the attribute intensity rating test. Assessors rated the intensities of 18 sensory attributes categorised under 5 sensory modalities: appearance (glossy appearance, herby appearance, colour intensity, viscous appearance), aroma (pungent aroma, cooked tomato aroma, rich aroma), mouthfeel (smooth mouthfeel, homogenous mouthfeel, thick mouthfeel), flavour (creamy flavour, savoury flavour, herbal flavour, cooked tomato flavour), and taste (sweet taste, sour taste, salty taste, aftertaste). Data was collected using RedJade sensory software between November and December 2024 in the Food Technology Laboratory, School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds. Demographic data (frequency of consumption of the samples prior to the study, gender, age, ethnicity and country of birth) were also collected

Dataset associated with 'The Effect of Templating on the Mechanical Properties of Smectic Liquid Crystal Elastomers'.

    No full text
This dataset contains the data associated with the article titled 'The Effect of Templating on the Mechanical Properties of Smectic Liquid Crystal Elastomers', published in Journal of Materials Chemistry C.. This data is provided in the form of either the raw data collected, or the files used to plot the figures in the published article. The data is mainly focused on the material properties of smectic liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) detailed in the associated article, including: mechanical testing of the LCEs, thermal analysis and X-ray scattering studies. The LCEs in question all display smectic ordering, which persists up to their thermal degradation, however the samples differ in that some were polymerised in the nematic phase, and others the smectic phase. This gives rise to different degrees of smectic order, which in turn vastly impact their mechanical properties

Dataset of technical, economic, and environmental parameters of microgrids: A literature-based analysis

    No full text
Literature-derived dataset comprising: article details (year, author, title, and journal); microgrid applications (country, configuration, and use case); key component parameters (capital, replacement, and operations and maintenance (O&M) costs, capacity, lifespan, and technical characteristics); and system-level aspects (capacity, production, capital, replacement, and O&M costs, net present cost (NPC), payback period (PBP), cost of energy (COE), and carbon emissions)

Teacher’s current practices of identifying and supporting children with speech, language and communication needs in early childhood education settings in Ghana - Interview transcript

This dataset presents a rich collection of qualitative insights gathered from 20 Kindergarten (KG) teachers within the Gomoa-Central District of Ghana. The data is generated from semi-structured interviews conducted between December 2021 and February 2022, exploring the teachers' day-to-day practices in identifying and supporting children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) within the framework of Ghana's recently introduced KG curriculum. The interviews delved into how teachers currently recognize children with SLCN, any changes in their approaches following the new curriculum, their understanding of the curriculum's guidelines related to SLCN, and their experiences with associated training initiatives. The dataset comprises verbatim transcripts of these in-depth conversations, offering detailed narratives of teachers' experiences. Complementing these qualitative accounts is background information collected from each participating teacher, including details such as their gender, age, educational qualifications, years of teaching service, and their specific circuit. The findings highlight a shift in teachers' practices towards more play-based and thematic teaching approaches encouraged by the new curriculum. This dataset offers a valuable understanding of the realities of SLCN identification and support in Ghanaian early childhood education from the perspective of the practitioners themselves, making it a significant resource for researchers, policymakers, and educators interested in this critical area
